Not gonna lie I find all this whinging about 'muh environment' to be interesting when that's considerably lower on the list of issues here. These same people usually fall oddly silent upon the realization that statistically most of the severe environmental destruction occurring these days (particularly our oceans) comes from the third world and China, NFT's have greater consequences than the environment but I suppose I'm not that surprised to see people miss the point this badly.

Not saying the west doesn't contribute to the problem or anything like that, but this is a bigger discussion that's really far beyond the range of what we discuss here.

Also the fact that, you know, this hobby also kind of contributes to environmental deterioration in some ways. How many people here buy new Iphones to replace older models? So on and so forth, this is a bigger discussion and this place clearly isn't the right place for it.

Not entirely accurate.

Most cryptominers run their GPUs (the main part people use for cryptomining because it's the most efficient for computations) undervolted, meaning they tend to use less power than a regularly-used gaming machine. But they do tend to be run longer and often are put in shitty mining rigs that aren't used well.

But then you've also got all the companies (and countries like China) who are doing it en masse who are using far more professional servers where the wear on the hardware isn't really as much of an issue. You've also got a lot of people who just do it in their spare time between using their computer for other stuff.

Is the reason people keep saying "burned down rainforests" because that one year idiots on social media were crying about the rainforest despite fires happening there all the time that aren't publicized or some man-made conspiracy?

The other grifters hoping to convince stupid people with more social media time a Kardashian that picture files are burning down the rainforest for donations worth even more than the NFT grift.

The big dumb saps thinking they're the smartest person in the room for not being the other big dumb sap that the other side just took money from. The best grifters are running both sides of this hustle and laughing all the way to the bank.
