Probably because the comic is set on Cybertron. Sure, the Prime and Ratchet 2 pack is earth modes, but technically they aren't part of the subline

That's honestly just sad. It's like a Construct-a-bots alt mode. Actually no, it's worse, because those don't partsform at least. You still have to remove and reposition the wings on this one, as well as the cockpit. They didn't even use the head that looked like his SG helmet. Does transformation/alt mode just not matter anymore?

Why didn't they wait and just retool Galvatron?

Wait, this is real? Holy shit, this is not what I was expecting at all. The jet mode is... weird, but I kinda like it, and I love the robot mode with those wings. I hope this is an indication of the level of remolding we can expect in this line. I was figuring the most we'd get would be the occasional new head like on Blurr.

 

Thinking more about it... yeah, the original SG Megatron was based on Energon / Super Link Megatron's figure, who basically looked like Galvatron anyways... so that seems like a no-brainer. :/

ah yes, my favorite part of the sg megatron design... the mistransformed tank mode with a bunch of partsforming bits tacked on.

if only there were a new galvatron mold they could've made this from.

I'm not in on SG at all but I will say this looks good in bot mode but that vehicle mode is as bad or worse than TR Broadside's jet mode.

In the (now) long, and storied history of cludging junk into the Siege Megatron mold, this is actually a pretty good effort.

I mostly kinda just wanna dig my Botcon SG Megatron out of storage.

Keep in mind that this mold originally is a G1 Galvatron homage (it's obvious with the actual Energon Galvatron deco which highlights the 4-pack abs), so they had to try and recreate this from a tank.

Milking the Megatron mold, probably. We already know there's a second version of Galvatron whereas how much use are they really going to get out of Megatron's molds?

Though to be even more frank, they should have just retooled the TR Galvatron mold for this since that turns into a jet anyway and Takara's Super Megatron proved the mold is good so long as you remove the pants-shittingly awful headmaster gimmick crap in the chest.

 

They are REALLY milking that Megatron mold for all it's worth. I think we're in Seeker territory now...

 

He kinda looks like the ER Megs, especially with that shield that looks like it's based on the ER's sword.

 

lol the alt mode is silly and tacked on but idk the Newage SG Megatron also has a shit jet form so it seems par the course with this design.

What kills it for me though is the head sculpt. Just doesn’t work for the character, at the very least they should have used the head from the G2 Combat Megs release.

The alt mode isn’t any worse than half of the Siege line anyways (Reflector, Soundwave, Ironhide/Ratchet/Crosshairs, Apeface, Megatron’s original Siege alt mode)

Hasbro subverting expectations - I almost bet they leaked the "it's ER repaint" rumor on purpose to surprise everyone with this.

I have good hopes for whatever is coming next in SG.
