Yeah for something called Transformers, IDW phase 2 rarely showed transforming.

 

Oh there was Transforming in Phase 2, just not the James Robots half of Phase 2. And it got a bit annoying after a while.

 

I’ve never been into some of the robot designs of the non-toy characters of the generation 1 cartoon. Ariel, Orion Pax, Dion, and that one fish lady Seaspray liked. Nightbird teeters on that line for me too.

I don’t know what it is. I just was never into the way they were drawn.

 

Probably because they're drawn as "people" first and Transformers second.

Like Dion's wheels are just some of his joints like the knees and elbows coloured as wheels.

 

Ya know what, that might be it. Maybe I’m getting an uncanny valley feeling with the more organic looking faces and slimmer proportions.

 

I strongly dislike the Transmetal and Bayverse designs. Not the biggest fan of the majority UT designs, but they’re nowhere as bad as the aforementioned designs.
I really don’t like Unicron’s design or characterization.

 

Transformers: Animated, has the ugliest looking versions of the transformers. I’ve ever seen.

This fucking monstrosity for example, daytrader. WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING WHEN THEY MADE THIS SHIT? You see what I mean? The dude looks like a bunch of garbage and scrap shit thrown in a compactor in the shape of a overweight old man. I like how they try to make the designs so realistic yet it completely fails at doing so with over designed complicated shit. It makes it comepletely unbelievable that this "thing" transforms or the fact this thing is an "Alien" from a different planet while it completely resembles a fat ass homeless dude with a pot belly. So much for realism. I feel the same about every age of extinction and the last knight designs, they just made them humans made out of fucking scrap and garbage. As much as I hate the bug faced shit the previous films did, Id take that shit over all the aoe and the TLK garbage. Man I hate two those movies with a burning passion.

 

It’s like if Team Four Star, made their own Transformers series. That would be Transformers: Animated.

I could make a list of movie bot designs that didn't work for me, but I feel like that's cheating.

I guess I'll say that I really don't like Bisk's design, RiD'15. I think it's the eyestalks, they look so dang weird. A lobster bot on it's own wouldn't be abnormal, plenty of bots with claw hands out there, but his head just is unappealing. Thermidor had a better head design while still following the lobster idea.

For me pretty much every megatron since has been better although i still dont really like cyberverse or wfc trilogy versions either.
While i love the fusion cannon, everything else is just not good enough for a scary decepticon leader. His helmet seems to be placed on like a lego mans hair and is just too rounded off. I never liked him turning into a gun that lesser bots could hold and use and even as a child i hated that he shrank. His face always looked to squashed too.

 

I feel like gears head was his shoulders, I dont know what they were thinking
