One thing I wish we got to see in the 86 movie, I wish we got to see more of a widespread reaction to some of the deaths particularly Optimus.

Grimlock... well, would he really have been all that sad?

I imagine Spike and Bumblebee were DEVASTATED when they heard the news, same with Jazz and Cliffjumper.

 

Grimlock pre-movie? Probably not all that sad.
Season 3 Grmlock? He'd probably be bawling like a baby, tears and everything.

 

Yeah, Season 3 made the Dinobots into complete idiots.

 

Come to think of it, we never did get a proper funeral for Optimus Prime in the cartoon, did we?

 

I'm assuming they had some sort of memorial service for all the Autobots including Prime that they loaded into that cemetery-ship from "Dark Awakening".

 

As opposed to the “Einsteins” they were in season one and two LOL

They did make a statue of him at some point. Showed up in the Return of Optimus Prime pt 1.

 

When I want to make myself sad, I just think about this exact question. With all the gratuitous violence shown in the movie, I'm surprised we never really got a scene of the surviving Autobots grieving over their losses other than Optimus Prime's death. Although that probably would've added to the tone problems throughout, and none of the original Autobots aside from Perceptor, Blaster, Bumblebee, and Jazz (and Grapple for 2 seconds) feature in the movie at all. It still could have been something to put in season 3.

Hot rod/rodimus prime:

 

I imagine there was a mix of shock, fear, and grief. Optimus was their leader and answer to powerhouses like Megatron, with him gone there would’ve been a lot of uncertainty with both a political and military power vacuum being made. Aside from that, to lead a million year long war he might’ve been considered to be a reliable constant in the chaos of war. So for him to finally bite it would likely cause a lot of disbelief. And Prime was just a good guy to them, so they would’ve been just plain sad.

 

Push-Button is probably somewhere skulking in the shadows, rubbing his dinky mandibles together while going "finally... someone finally scratched out that blowhard."

 

If it's movie prime probably sleeping safe knowing their faces will remain attached.

It's almost wrong that it was Daniel by Prime's side when he died and not Spike.

 

How are you defining Blaster and Perceptor as 'original Autobots'? Grimlock (and the other Dinobots) is probably more of an original autobot than they are, he was in season 1.

 

As in "pre-season 3". Hot Rod, Ultra Magnus, etc. were all new characters.
