Well, the current two MegaFigs we have to go by are the Snyder versions of Darkseid and Steppenwolf. Which aren't $50, but $40. And, yeah, height-wise from what I've seen in pics they only look maybe two inches taller than the average figure at most.
In the sense that you'll have to rip the pieces off: Helmet, arms, hips, legs, chest, yes. Lower torso, no.
anything is removable if you have enough determination it’s not meant to be removable, most of the armor parts are overlays that are glued in with the signature way too much glue
Thanks for the vid, yeah I agree with his comment regarding the face of the Classic Kickstart Spawn. To me the Spawn 10th Anniversary figure is the best Classic Spawn figure Todd has ever made (with cape mod ofc )
Got regular Mandarin Spawn today. The bio for this one on the McFarlane site is different from Cheng Lei(1st Mandarin Spawn back in the day) despite the sculpt largely being based on him. Rather than being a guy reborn as a Spawn who got revenge on his tormentors, this guy was the Scarlet Edge and died fighting zombies or something. Now he’s back to fight the world’a greatest warriors like Ryu from Street Fighter. The scribing, sculpt and detail is a match in a lot of areas to the original Mandarin Spawn, so the legs especially are lacking paint. You can tell Todd probably wanted it to look like there’s a black undersuit but ran out of budget for paint. I’ve warmed up to the overall look in person but I’m still tempted to bust out some paint. There’s some good attempts to disguise joints with the the disc halves on the elbows and wrists having faced molded on the outer halves. Definitely would’ve looked better if those halves were painted. Shining example of why this figure would’ve benefitted from more paint in weathering is very evident on the gold armor on the torso. The gold armor everywhere else doesn’t have weathering/ink wash so they end up looking plain/bare. Articulation was better than expected. Left upper bicep joint was stuck due to the glue or paint from the armor. Freed it after scraping off excess glue or paint at the seam and twisting. Left shoulder armor was glued on but seems to be separating at the top. This in turn freed up some shoulder pivot range. Ab/diaphragm joint articulation is better than most Todd figures but still could be better. Main thing hindering articulation is the loin cloth which is glued on. I get the feeling it didn’t need to be... the legs seem wide enough that the loin cloth doesn’t seem like it would’ve fallen off without glue. Tempted to cut where it’s glued to leave it floating(without glue, it should rise up automatically if the legs are moved forward, then lower when neutral). Weapons would’ve benefitted from being molded out of ABS. Instead they’re molded in PVC so can be prone to bending. The thinner halberd is okay but the big blade sword is heavy enough that it loosens the wrist swivel. I do miss the paint, shield and weapons of the original Mandarin Spawn. However this one gives you something new that can stand apart if you have the previous 2 Mandarin Spawns(or even the Gold Label one which has some unique tooling). I’m glad we finally have a fully articulated Mandarin Spawn(in red and gold). Given that Todd loves repaints I’d love to see this fully painted like the original with new weapons based on the original eventually. The original stood out back in the day due to the intricate sculpt and paint job.
Found all of these earlier tonight at Target. Somebody beat me to the Blood Angels red hellblaster armor.
For me, the "looking up" neck articulation is the biggest paint point. Since he has that spike on the back of his neck, he pretty much is forced to look down. A little frustrating since you really can't see the spike which is causing the problem. Would have preferred to lose the spike or have it shortened or altered to improve the neck/head articulation instead.
Oddly under the right foot, Mandarin Spawn has raised print which reads “TM & ©DC Comics(s21)”. Future comic collaboration? Or maybe the hooved feet will be shared with an upcoming DC figure?
Well, patience paid off... Targets can be weird though. In between the time I saw the aforementioned clearancd, I probably checked at ~4 other targets and didn't see them clearanced at other locations... Anyways, got two of these round boys ...and gamestop already has the dune BAF figures on clearance plus they're doing a pro day sale this Saturday, so perhaps they'll have deeper discounts applicable to what they've already marked as clearance, as well as regular priced items. Saw this guy yesterday
I heart the original Dune novels, and I'm excited to (eventually) see the new film. That said, I still have no interest in the figures, even at break-neck clearance prices. There's just something "off" about them that doesn't resonate with me.
For me the designs just don't feel toyetic... the likenesses of the actors seem off as well which isn't doing the toys any favors.
