Didn’t have to be. Turning prominent characters into mindless subservient slaves does not make for fun reading. I had the same issue with ‘84 with the ark resurrecting the 1985 Autobots to fight the coneheads. And also in Regeneration One with the lobotomised Decepticons. The whole purpose of having Skystalker in a comic is to see him overthrow the larger Transformers who look down upon him. Removing that, turning him into a lame generic, well there’s no point in making it Skystalker. Especially since he’s not been shown to be his true self in the IDW2 comics.
I didn’t realize it til you said it but Skystalker being instrumental in taking down the Titan hub is pretty much the purest form of “overthrowing larger transformers”
I'm finding it a bit funny that the original Insecticons are being showcased, and the guy we see prominently KICKING an Autobot is, in fact, not Kickback.
It's also TFW, so many people just want the same characters and stories regurgitated back at them. Same as with some of the people in the conversations around the new BW comic.
he needs the attitude he had in the dreamwave comics. you have read the micromasters mini-series haven't you? skystalker was the only thing worth reading the mini-series for.
its not worth reading. It’s poorly written with a complete lack of professional grammar by the lead writers of transformers in DW who never answered any questions and but constantly kept asking them and ends on a cliffhanger that never got any resolve due to the pisspoor managing of the company. Most of dreamwave isn’t worth reading. It’s almost as if there were no editors on the books. Blitzwing has four or five origins in the books(one of which is in micromasters) because none of the writers(a whoppin three) were not communicating with each other and dreamwave wasn’t doing anything to try and make it work. they just want to be the characters to be smashing into each other like they do with their toys and once they get action they complain about the art and once the art isn’t something to complain about they complain about the characterization of the characters and how it’s not how they envision them. onslaughts original character is a strategist who’s plans don’t work and he’s overlooked. So hey guess what?! This is faithful to how he was originally envisioned 35 years ago but I’m sure you’ll find something else to indirectly nitpick.
Was kinda expecting this. No way was IDW going to release 2 current Transformers titles on time and on the same day Only unfortunate for those of us who's been looking forward to it since yesterday For anyone who's been avoiding the current continuity, you really should at least take a look at Escape mini. It's the best out of Ruckley's efforts so far. Also good if you're a Hound and Wheeljack fan
so.. this is the resurrection of wheeljack from the original idw saga. I must say there is very little enticing me to figure out what happened since unicron. is this even interesting?
Does the dialogue in this issue feel... unnatural to anyone else? Like, every speech bubble is either a one syllable sound effect or a long exposition dump.
Everything since Unicron is: A. An entirely new continuity completely unrelated to the old one B. Extremely interesting
No. This is some new lame shit. It spent about 20 issues forcing conflict into characters who were hollow versions of themselves who could have otherwise made conflict interesting. Now they call it "war" but its mostly just a couple of badly written small-scale action scenes and uneven storytelling.
Then you didn’t read the best iteration of Skystalker we ever had. This new Skystalker is just seriously lame and uninteresting by comparison. We should have gotten to know who Skystalker was before he was cerebro-shelled, but we didn’t get that. Dreamwave Skystalker was all about sending off the bigger Decepticons to fight to their deaths. He knew they would die in battle. He wanted them to die in battle. He decapitated Shockwave and pretended to be him to make it happen. Now that was an interesting and memorable characterisation for him. I’ve already forgotten what the new Skystalker said and did in the last issue. As far as “regurgitation” goes, when a character is captured so perfectly, I do want good quality to be regurgitated. And when we get bad quality writing, it does deserve to be criticised - even if every issue is if bad quality.
IDW’s Transformers x Back To The Future: Issue #4 Murphy Cover B Artwork - Transformers News - TFW2005
Skystalker and his Shuttle is my favourite Micromaster, I desperately wished they released a version of Skystalker in the War for Cybertron trilogy.
Seeing the artwork again, they really should have put the time circuit chronometers on his forearm instead of his chest. That way, he'd actually have something to look at in the pose.
