Can you really not see that there would be class action suits when the consoles people have purchased all just stop working?

People sue for WAY dumber shit than that and win.

Sure they can sue, but considering you only buy the license to the games, even when you buy the discs, and the time frame we are talking about, it'd likely be laughed out of court.

It’s also going to be an issue in like 10 years. At that point if Sony keeps BC with PS4 going forward I’m sure no one is going to be mad because they have an alternative console to play games on. Also I’m sure there will be fan software mods to bypass the issue and Sony wouldn’t care because it’s a super obsolete console that they don’t make a dime off of anymore.

But like what I have said previously. It’s not like the PS2 days where the disc you plug in is what you get. There are so many software updates that the game firmware you get on disc will probably be the worst edition of the game. Imagine playing something like cyberpunk on PS4 after servers are cut off. You’ll be playing the super unplayable 1.0 version of the game.

Plus like 80% of the games released today are meant to be services. There are single player games without any online integration but the numbers are diminishing.

That’ll depend on what kind of lawsuit people can come up with.

Oh and by the way, remember when Microsoft trying doing something similar to this and Sony making a video making fun of them for it? All I see from Sony fans in regards to this is damage control.

Nice way to try to avoid bad pr.

edit: People rightfully pointed out that the fact that Sony was attempting to screw over consumers was already a bad thing in of itself. Hopefully this is a first step in reversing some of the more negative decisions (I.E. getting a patch to kill the kill switch on the ps4/ps5).

Lol, I can understand keeping the Vita store open but I still don’t see a need for PS3 store.

Tell that to developers still making games for it. And that’s only one of the reasons.

People are still developing PS3 games? I know Vita is popular with indie devs but Come on, no one is out there looking to buy new PS3 games. Plus it’s cell processor is a nightmare to program for. That’s wasted resources on the devs part. IDK this is coming from an Electrical Engineer’s POV.

Some would see that as a challenge.

I mean, there are people out there who cooked up ways to get Cuphead to play on actual vintage televisions appropriate for the intended aesthetic, machines that were designed to only take input from antiquated broadcasting technology. And they figured out how to feed 4K HDMI from a high-end gaming desktop tower into a machine that can't even process color.

But that’s hobby level. I get that. You don’t need a digital store for that. You aren’t spending man hours to create a product looking for a profit where you might get 10,000 sales max if you are lucky. If you want a profit and don’t have resources for current Gen dev kits then you do PC and or Mobile.

Despite gaming on PC/PS4, I still maintain my PS3.

Plenty of titles I still have never gotten around to getting for my PS3 on the PSN store that I want to buy eventually. It's specifically the reason I gutted my spare 2TB external and used it to upgrade the internal drive on my PS3.

I'm glad the ability to browse the store and find something new to add to my library won't be gone the next time I decide to power on my console.

I haven’t purchased a PS3 game / DLC since 2014. I think it was The Last of Us Left Behind.

But I still have my PS3. Because it’s the only way to play MGS4.

i own 4 ps3's. 3 psp's, a vita and only physical games. Although I havent turned them on in a while, theyre all sitting and waiting in the wings for rainy day.

EDIT: I own some PS1 digital games for my vita, if anyone recalls in 2014, the vita store had a glitch that allowed you to download from the PSP side, and i got a bunch of $1 classics on my vita.

I think one of my PS4 controllers is possessed. We were watching an episode of Ultraman on YouTube last night when all of a sudden, my controller, sitting on its own on the table, started rewinding the video. I stopped it, went back to where we were, put the controller down, and then it did it again. It happened two more times before I turned the controller off and turned on the other controller which had no issues.

I’ve been having a problem with my PS4 not reading discs. It just keeps trying to read any disc I put in it and eventually shows “unrecognized disc”. I’ve tried multiple solutions I’ve read about (short of opening my PS4) and nothing has worked. Looks like I might have to open it up and see if it’s a physical problem.

EDIT: I’ve seen many places suggest it could be a dirty CD drive, and it occurred to me that when I bought it refurbished from GameStop, it had a horrible cigarette smoke smell. I’ve kept it in a clean environment since I got it a couple years ago, but I wonder if that smoke could have contributed to the problem.
