Yeah it’s crazy at the level of competitiveness there. Just looking though it makes me ask two questions -

    1) why is no one doing anything with blue Superion deco? It is fire!

    2) why did Hasbro not sell the 1985 cars (not including Skids who is really a late 84 car) in 1986? I think every other figure sold in 1985 that wasn’t a 1984 holdover got a second bite at the apple but Hasbro didn’t do that with the 1985 cars.

Could have been a matter of sell through (perhaps the 85 cars didn't sell as strongly)... some stuff like the min cars and cassettes stayed in circulation for years, and some stuff got shuffled out fairly quickly, so you'd assume it was because sales weren't strong.

It could also be simply due to the fact that 86 had an awful lot of new, expensive SKUs.

I know in the fanart section there’s someone who redid the original toy catalogs using all the modern figures; I wanna see these redone like those too

The GI Joe catalogues provide something of an answer. Look at the '84 and '85 Joe pages, there is a lot of '82 and '83 product going through to a third year. It's why the cartoon went to the bother of having a two-parter designed to write out a bunch of '82 Joes who had never done anything previously. Because they were finally going off sale after three full years.

Then in '86, both toylines have something of a clearing of the decks, with two year runs being the norm. Then as we go through '87, '88 and onwards. Hasbro get Malibu Stacey syndrome where they feel they can't sell a product "as-is" for a second year, so they have to put some kind of refresh or gimmick on it.

The 86 pre-Toyfair: swapped the Scourge and Cyclonus names just to throw off the scent even more of who was TC and who was Skywarp (LOL).

And that Galvatron looks awesome! .

As someone who grew up circling the hell out of stuff like this in Christmas catalogs and the like, this is a pretty darn cool birthday gift I’ll flip through later tomorrow.

And yet again, thanks to the Transformers fandom we have another piece of GIJoe history. Thank you so much for sharing this!

I think those very same shots are in the UK catalog too.

Sorry I meant, they used shots of the same display photos. :lol

I made some minor (IMO) "tweeks" to some of the images. Obviously, subjectivity is an issue, as is the fact that I'm using my phone (with blue light disabled) to view these images.

Yeah, the '88 and '89 ones were not perfect as they wouldn't sit flat in a scanner and I wasn't about to ask him to damage them for the sake of this project. Just had to make do on Adobe Scan.

It looks like the small Pretenders assortment wasn't fully finished/ready, so they just painted some guns (from head/power masters?) that would fit in their hands white(?). I'm just guessing.

IIRC, were just the same shots in the G1 checklists, right?

Is that Streetwise's gun on Octopunch's (robot form) arm?
