I think it's a random question that's pretty fair to ask here.

 

I don't hate her, but her presence feels pretty forced. Hasbro introduced her about 5 years ago and since then, she's been in pretty much everything except RB and the live action films - RID2015, G1, Cyberverse, Evergreen - she's basically been made into the franchise's de facto tertiary main protagonist next to Prime and Bee.

Transformers has a gallery of hundreds if not thousands of underused characters spanning 35 years - many loved by many fans. To have a totally new kid who didn't exist just 10 years ago get showered in attention through figures, merchandising, and shows at numbers many of those haven't received in years can definitely cause a feeling of envy from fans of those ignored names.

 

Due to a vast majority of her her traits being the result of a fan poll, she feels incredibly generic and bland, feeling more like a fanfiction self insert oc than a legitimate character. She's a Japanese styled red and black jetformer with super special abilities and a katana (technically not a katana most of the time but you get the idea)
And while I'm fine with her being pushed in the series after her release on paper, gotta give the fans what they asked for after all, all her appearances had her be either generally bland, or downright horrible in the case of the Prime Wars shorts.
While I dont hate her like some people do, I understand their distaste for her, and would rather her take some revisions before the next time we see her.

Especially the design, cause while I dont hate her, I do hate transformers designs with overtly earth culture design cues and references, unless they adopt that appearance after arriving on Earth.

i googled this, in anticipation of the beast wars movie, and wanted to reply. Then saw this thread and figured, ill add context to this message below as if it was a response to this thread.

In a computer situation, even in 2021 I still have to cold boot computers which are being jerks to cooperate with.

 

But isn't it the whole point that she's an original character? Hasbro can't just keep using the same 50 characters over and over again. They have to do something new eventually, like they did in Beast Wars. Sure, they could use older G1 characters and revamp them, but unless they get someone like James Roberts to give them fresh new personalities, I don't see that happening anytime soon. And even then, people would complain that they made them too different from the originals.
Since all of Windblade's traits were the result of a fan poll, that means they're what the majority of fans wanted. Literally every single one of her traits were chosen by fans based on what they wanted to see in a character. Seriously, how do you look at an original character created and chosen by the majority of the fanbase and then complain that she seems like... an original character?
Only slightly related, but I've noticed that a lot of people trash-talk fanfic authors as if this isn't a website with an entire forum dedicated to writing fanfiction. Just an observation.

I think the Transformers Wiki used to have a pic that was edited out of the G1 Buzzsaw entry that was of the bird shooting the lower midsection of Bumblebee from a distance with the caption "Buzzsaw, the most evil and vicious of Decepticons, aims right for the crotch". Long gone, but every time I remember it, it makes me chuckle.

Bit of a random question, but is Optimus still referred to as Convoy in Japan? I know since Animated and the movies, they've been trying to push Optimus over there, but that was a decade ago and I haven't given it much thought, so I'm curious.

Did he ever use it? Or is it just for show? I can't recall anytime he uses it in the cartoon.
