?

Do you think this new product could be stepping away from what we love about Transformers as toys?

Seems like a slam dunk if someone wants one bad enough - they are regularly selling for $1300-1800 on ebay right now. FWIW, the unicron is selling right around there regularly as well!

How many times have you all watched the Robosen Optimus Prime advertisement? Be honest.

    Once and briefly.

I need to experience this myself and I’m not spoiling that experience anymore.

I remember seeing the Senpower prototypes at a trade show in Guangzhou a few years ago. Either Robosen is a subsidiary, a distributor, or they bought the stuff off Senpower. Or Senpower ripped off Robosen. I don't really know.

I think it is crazy to see people lose their minds over something that was created three years ago, and never made much of a splash. I guess being "officially licenced" and revealed by Hasbro is the big deal. But with that comes the massive jump in unwarranted asking price.

If you want to pay $800, go right ahead. Nearly the exact same robotic frame, without the Optimus look can be bought for $350. Did the license and the Optimus parts really add $450 to the cost? Of course not. Had it not been for the official license, this thing probably would have shown up on AliExpress for $500 and everyone would have been calling it a blatant knockoff.

When I was in China the Senpower rep was saying the "Transformer" versions would be the equivalent of $299-350 when sold in China. Just because something seems to be high tech to a western audience doesn't mean it should cost a fortune. Corporations have been getting away with absolute theft for years. An iPhone doesn't cost $1000 to manufacture, it doesn't even cost $300.

At least Hasbro didn't design and build it themselves. Based on Hasbro pricing, the thing would cost $2000. After all, they think a blinking LED and a $.05 voice chip in a toy should warrant a $40 retail. You have that Hasbro Star Wars D-O "robot" that turned out to be an absolute joke.

If you ever get the chance to go to a product trade show in China, it will blow your mind. It will really make you think you jumped 30 years into the future. You might not want to know what things actually cost to manufacture. It will just make you mad. When my factory reps come to the USA, they laugh at what we pay for stuff they made.

This thing is incredibly cool. But for the asking price, it should look better. There aren't clearance issues on the parts that don't look quite right. Probably because this was finished three years ago before Hasbro got involved. In that time, some visual upgrades should have been made.

I am sorry but for 800 dollars I do not see what the excitement is for this. Like one person said I like transforming my own Transformers. Plus I would rather spend that much on Hot Toys figures I want (lol).

That box art dashes my hopes of getting a numbered copy sadly. That black box they mocked up with the evergreen artwork looked a lot more premium in my opinion.

I\'m curious to see if they\'re going to make other characters.

It sold out so fast that I assume they\'ll do a 2.0 version at some point.

Not that I\'m in the market for one, or rich enough, but I\'m interested in seeing how this tech advances over time.

Lots of people saw this. Even my kids teacher asked if any of the kids saw the new robotic Optimus Prime coming out for $700.

Robosen is Senpower, they just changed their name. And this isn’t just a reskin of their other bot. It’s bigger, has more mechanical parts on top of the Optimus look, extra voice over work, etc. I’m not going to converse about why things are different prices in different parts of the world, kind of irrelevant when most of us don’t live there.

I’ve been watching this for the past 2-3 years when I first saw Senpower release the video, I was amazed! I could only hope that one day it would be available to me... no matter the cost.
To be honest, I anticipated that the Senpower version would sell for around $500 or more to obtain it here in the States.
I having been preparing for this day.

At Hasbro Fanfest, last Friday; They showed us everything we thought we knew was going to be released. I was more than excited to finally get the ARC. I waited 37 years for it.

Then out of nowhere Jay and Silent Bob surprised EVERYONE of us and debuted this Cybertonian Robotic Lifeform, Licensed by Hasbro, Voice activated, Smart Device Integrated, LED Incorporated, G1 Accurate, Peter Cullen Vocalized, Work of Art.

This is not the same Optimus we saw 2 years ago. This Version, this Upgrade, this Optimus will be mine. Thanks to Hasbro.

I have not once regretted spending $699
I was prepared to pay $2000.

    I am a fan.

I'm glad I jumped on this before Hasbropulse sold out. I am kind of surprised it sold out so quickly.

It kind of looks like the red panel behind Primes head can be pushed down into his body on that picture without it.

As cool as this is, its too much of a toy for me. I just display my figures. I have no interest in playing with them. They already have real life sized driving cars that do this in Japan. Maybe this is a little more articulated. Fun to watch, but what Im gonna do with it after I watched it transform 4 or 5 times ?

I don't really like the review by the lady in the video at the beginning of this thread as much as the Jay and Silent Bob review here:

Why didn't Hasbro have this video be it's internet commercial?

After you watched it transform you're going to spend hours upon hours programming new sequences of movements to see what you can make it do.

THis really sold out in a few hours? I checked on Hasbropulse the day after the reveal and it was still there. That must mean they did not make many of this thing. Still find it odd, how can Hasbro afford to have this ready made and invest all this money, but need a kickstarter for Unicron who was 100$ cheaper?
