Woof. Yeah, that is a chunk of change. Well, I’m pretty sure he helped sculpt the Plunderlings, so I’ll consider my purchase of those guys as my way to support him.
I think once they distribute the Arethyr and Equadrron waves, they’ll announce Cosmic wave 1 for preorder. Then, they’ll alternate between mythic and cosmic.
I thought they were just expanding to include a space kickstarter based line? Not ditching Mythic Legions.
I don't know about Planetary Dog Toys, but I'm pretty sure the My Action Figure Customs have an 'agreement' with Four Horsemen where they won't make ALL the figure parts, so you still need a base figure. I honestly don't know if Four Horsemen would have standing on custom parts, but as opposed to most Transformers third party figures, these being mostly made by people in the US probably helps them with leverage haha.
From the sourcehorsemen site, Cosmic Legions will complement the Mythic Legions line. Personally I’m more into fantasy than sci fi but I am looking forward to the MOTU homages of more techy characters! It will include an all new world, story, and characters (this is NOT Attlus in space!) The parts will be interchangable with Mythic Legions toys (so technically, YOU can make an Attlus in space if you want) It will be integrated with Mythic Legions release schedules (no, Mythic is not going anywhere, don't worry!) Diverse characters and creatures with varied races, shapes, and sizes Symbiotic system of parts sharing with Mythic Legions (not only will parts be swappable between lines, but some parts introduce in one line will show up later in new ways in the other!) Unique mix of materials and finishes (clear visors, vac-metal, etc,) And most importantly - arriving in 2021!
They've been teasing that for so long, I really want to see what Cosmic Legions turns out to be. I'm not sure if I'll be into them as much though. The one astronaut looking guy on the Cosmic Legions page looks very bulky, if they're going to be holding weapons I really want them to be able to two-hand them well.
As if Cosmic wasn’t enough, I’ve gotten hooked by the Animal Warriors of the Kingdom Kickstarter too. They may be a little cartoony compared to ML, but some of ‘em are charming.
Yeah I've been keeping my eye on those I might only grab one figure and a bunch of weapons and heads though, TBD Great to hear about the Cosmic being a 2nd line and not a replacement, I should keep up better with everything
Mix is definitely cool. I like it. Something about just melee weapons and low tech that appeals to me more though. Tolkien-esque and Howard-esque classic fantasy.
Growing up, I was much more sci-fi than fantasy. Watched He-Man but no desire for the toys. No exposure to D&D and Dragon’s Lair was the game that ate my quarters in less than 10 seconds. Really liked Narnia, late to the game on Tolkien. I think the reason I liked Legions so much is that I had zero preconceived notions. I was wide open to whatever concept they pitched. In fact, I think the reason that their elves and dwarfs aren’t my jam is because they conflict with my limited LOTR expectations. So while I am more sci-fi and have a much broader frame of reference, it makes me more particular about new sci-fi lines or shows. How do you distinguish yourself from what we’ve already seen? Is product x a clever homage to 50s ray-gun serials or just a poorly executed, watered-down Buck Rogers? Then, no matter how good the concept, does it translate to play worthy action figures? I really enjoy watching the Expanse, but I don’t think I need an action figure of Thomas Jane in a space fedora.
I hear you. Growing up I loved Star Wars and Conan, so when I discovered Thundarr it was like finding the promised land. I really dig the post-apocalyptic scene where tech is hard to come by, sorcery is on the rise, some are trying to hold society together and rebuild while others see an opportunity to gain power thru tribalism and warfare. I share a lot of similar thoughts, especially the ability to enjoy a story without needing toys of the characters. I love the Expanse series both TV and books, but don’t need a toy line of it. I have a huge number of Star Wars toys, but not a single Luke, Han, Leia, Darth Vader, etc.. However, I have tons of storm troopers and EU characters. For me I think it has a lot to do with how a fictional universe and my own imagination and creativity interact. The Original Trilogy told their story to a satisfactory conclusion, now I want to blend the rest of the Star Wars universe with all my other 1/18th scale lines and see what happens. I never really watched He-Man so MOTUC is just a great bunch of Scifi/Barbarians to me. Mythic Legions and the other Four Horsemen lines are equally open worlds for me to populate and explore. Likewise, I haven’t bought much of Dwarves or Elves. Mostly I’ve bought Demons and Skeletons. I’ll be in hog heaven when Cosmic Legions lands and I can make space skeletons. My collecting isn’t limited to nostalgia or a “connection to the property” so I’m free to collect whatever I find cool and interesting. So long as it is of sufficient quality and a fair price it’s fair game. Homage or poor rehash is really just a function of the quality of execution. If done well a classic comic looking Buck rogers can team up with Fortnite’s Leviathan to fight Darth Malgus and look good doing so.
I saw on the Mythic Legions Cabal someone already received the Shadow Equaddron, so they are starting to ship!
That's pretty awesome! I can't tell, do you get swords/shields with the horses? I screwed this one up and only put one order in for the big demon guy on the lower right. I'll have to wait for the in stock sale to grab Arethyr and the horses.
Good eye! I didn't see that until you mentioned it, does look like two swords and two shields come with the horses! Good luck during the in-stock sale, you should be able to get the ones you need!
