mp44 is the worst optimus mp

I don't like toy color schemes that pair red with blue. As minor accent colors, fine, but when combined in significant or similar amounts, I don't like the combination. Add white/grey/silver and I like it even less.

It's one of my (many) issues with Ultra Magnus, but even Smokescreen-- a bot that I genuinely like-- gets a pass from me only because of the historical nod to the BRE racing livery. Same with Jazz and his Martini livery (and because he's largely white and the colors are minor accents). Starscream? No. Gears, Crosshairs, Skylynx? I just don't like the look.

I honestly I think I would prefer Optimus Prime in just about any other palette. Maybe black instead of blue, or orange instead of red... I dunno. Yes, he looks "correct" in his original colors, but not good. I will say I prefer his G1-toy colors (the darker ones) over the highly-saturated cartoon/Hasbro colors. I specifically got a Japanese MP-10 for that very reason.

 

I would slide MP-10 to the top but otherwise keep the order the same. I only have the white Magic Square figure, but damn is it nice.

 

te01 and mp10 look kinda on the same level, just depends on if you want cartoon or not

Tough to disagree with you on this. They even share the admittedly compromised appearance of the rear half in truck mode. MS-01 is definitely more of a modern MP-10, whereas TE-01 is more of a 3P alternative to MP-44.

 

te-01 is just mp44 but good and without a bullshit price

 

Most of the hate towards MP-44 is entirely on the price, but given most of the bullshit it comes with being really unnecessary, and the fact that it's almost $500, yeah, I don't blame anyone for hating it

 

every issue mp44 has is a billion times worse cause of the price. for half a grand qc problems and shitty engineering like a backpack is bullshit

 

I got the Hasbro Asia version of MP-10 from BBTS years ago because it was less expensive than the TakaraTomy versions and I didn't like that you had to paint the eyes of the TakaraTomy versions yourself just to make it not look dead.

 

Borderline my favorite transformer of all time, kibble and all. Especially if you’ve got the Henkel or Evolutions deco.

ER may technically better, but I prefer Classics (and crazy it took that long to even come close to something of a worthy replacement)

Ha! Yeah, I just always wished those arm panels maybe had on more hinge so half of them could go under the forearms, or even just a peg so they attached slightly more solidly.

also: the build quality of Classics OP absolutely shames anything from at least T30 onwards.

 

yeah, kinda a pain in the ass when theyre loose, outta the three classic primes i have p much all of them go all over the place if you even tap them

It was irrelevant to me because I wanted yellow eyes like the G1 toy. Whether “dead” eyes or blue, I was painting them regardless.

 

You guys forgot the detail of it being ugly (at least IMO). Grey face that should be silver, underdetailed in truck mode, especially the stripes. And overall it just looks like the old Mega-SFC PVC figure upscaled rather than a MP. Way too "soft" looking sculpt overall. I can't even talk myself into springing for the KO just to experience the mold. The design is just that unappealing to me.

I just regard them as built-in shields, like the Autobot Brothers all had.

 

Them being able to get a (kind of) realistic vehicles into a "soft" looking robot mode is impressive engineering wise.

It's just I don't like the look of most of them.

 

I actually like MP-44. Takara is 3/3 in their Masterpiece Convoy iterations. Each one is grand for different reasons.

 

paints really ugly (like its both matte and glossy)and the proportions are weird
i dont really hate the whole cartoon thing that much, te 01 and mp36 do it fine, but the new official ones look ugly as all hell when they try to do it

 

Mp-36 and TE-01 seem to be pretty major exceptions (I don’t own them, but just looking photos of them, they don’t look that bad, especially Megatron). But I still can’t get behind the idea of making masterpiece and even mainline figures slavishly accurate to a 35 year old cartoon. They just look ugly. That’s why I think the recently leaked Slag looks more like a cheap KO rather than an official figure. The animation model is completely flat with almost no detail. Having the toy look like it, and the red that it used on the chest and face, just make it look terrible.

 

mp10 through like 43 was mp at its best cause it was just what wfc is now except way better, there were already some cartoon mps like megs and inferno but they sure as hell looked a lot better than the pieces of shit we get now
the whole gimmick is that its just nostalgia as an overpriced toy, doesnt matter if it even looks good or not. idc if it looks like "how i remember it", only thing i care about if it looks good
