    I HATE HIS FEET

Sorry, I had to get that outta my system.

Am I alone in this? Has anyone else griped out his weird hooves? Has anyone come up with a fanmode that makes them look more foot-like?

    Ugh...

ThanksThis set was on sale so I pulled the trigger.

Ginrai is an honest to goodness downgrade from the original mode. the deco looks nice no doubt but the engineering doesn't hold up at all. For reasons that will never make sense to me Takara re-engineered the legs so the feet were more like the old toy. The result not only looks silly but is a floopy mess. The legs, which always held just fine on the original figure, can't stay together at all in combined mode or the standard robot mode. Besides the thighs being crazy tight, just holding the figure causes the legs to unpeg and become a wobbly mess. The arms look nicer in robot mode but because of their design they cannot hold up in vehicle mode as the trailer roof. Again the original figure did not have this problem at all.

God Bomber is more of the same. He looks good in both modes and having the other two Cybertron headmaster jrs is nice especially when they can all ride in the cock pit. But the arms, my God the arms. They don't hold on in vehicle mode or robot mode. I used to think reviewers were just handling it too rough but they really aren't connected well at all and slip off with the slightest bump. It especially bothers me because it's the same basic concept RID Magnus used which was also done by Takara, and there were no issues there.

I actually like the base modes, simple as they are. I am looking forward to displaying then with fort max to make a real Autobot City.

Combined mode is a let down to me. The conversion process for the chest piece is needlessly complicated and very difficult to apply. The feet are too heavy and a floopy mess (with again Ginrai's legs flopping around because the come unpegged with every slight breeze). He can't really strike any poses because of serious balance issues. He looks nice, but he might as well be a brick like the original.

Final verdict is the same across the board. The set looks fantastic however you display them, but the engineering is a complete flop. Given that Titans Return Powermaster Optimus Prime and Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus, for all their flaws, were at least solid in each mode, this just looks bad. On the bright side he scales well with his castmates. Combined mode is about the size of a Combiner so shapes up well with leokaiser. Individual modes look really good with Overlord as well. It's fun to finally be able to recreate some of these scenarios from the Japanese shows (with some liberties).

Do to the poor engineering I can't really recommend this set unless you are a huge fan of Powermaster Optimus prime/Ginrai and really want a set that combined, in which case you should probably also invest in the third party upgrade kits. On its own it really isn't worth the $150 it's going to cost you.

I sorta agree. LG Super Ginrai's arms are way, way better. Otherwise, I prefer TRPMOP. I recently Frankensteined the two of them together into one "ideal" version of the toy (or at least as ideal as you can get from this mold). Gotta take some pics of that...

Unfortunately, I totally agree with you. I was excited about this figure, and it looks good when you have it standing there and not touching it, but it's possibly the worst quality figure I have gotten from Takara in terms of material and tolerances.

The hands on mine don't have a very tight grip on the guns. Ok release but could've been much better. Not a big fan of the feet either, don't mind the look but they aren't very stable.

Annnnnd here are some pics! I mixed Magnus Prime and TRPMOP. I admit, the reds don't match (TRPMOP's red is lighter) but otherwise it works fine. All the blues are from TRPMOP (except the fingers and his ass) so there's no clash there. And the gray partss are all warmer TRPMOP's gray, except for the trailer paneling -- those are all the cooler Magnus Prime gray parts.

All I really wanted from Takara was, to paint the TRPMOP mold like the LG-35 figure. Your pics give a sense of what we missed. I totally prefer the hasbro version, but the paint job is so half-assed.

I read the reviews here and watched a few video reviews. All sort of warned me on how finicky and unposeable this thing is, expecially with the unforgivably weak heels, the lower legs that can’t stay together, the fragile trailer roof. I knew all of this going in and still paid a stupid price for it.

Siege Spinister and Earthrise Doubledealer unlocked a crazy 1988 nostalgia for me, and no 1988 collection was complete without Powermaster Optimus Prime. Super Ginrai is the closest official update of the toy, so I needed him and my wallet had no say in the matter.

I love him. The figure is absolutely gorgeous and is an “articulated” modern Powermaster Optimus given life. All the complaints are absolutely valid, and the lack of a smaller separate Optimus mode and a bit-of-an-afterthought base mode are disappointing. But handling this guy is nevertheless a joy for me. The transformation is fun, the details are incredible and spot on, and the paint (unblemished on my copy) is just spectacular. He does have some basic poseability, especially once you get comfortable with the feet tolerances.

Hightly recommended. It’s not for everyone, and it’s definitely not worth the current price, but the toy (for all its flaws) is worth having if you want a great looking update of the original.

We have the God Ginrai version and posing honestly was not that bad once you get used to positioning the wonky feet nubs. Even supports the weight of all the add-ons from the PE kits.

The Shockwave Lab hands 'shockingly' work pretty well unlike their Overlord / Sky Shadow hands.

I got the LGEX God Ginrai set. Changes were made, and one particular change that I never noticed before until I read a review on the LG35 version of Super Ginrai that had me checkin' mine. Apparently, LG35's cab is solid red plastic with the windows painted a light metallic blue.

The LGEX version??? Completely remolded, that truck cab is now done with a translucent light blue plastic that's painted over in red & silver, leaving the truck windows see-through. This...concerns me heavily now. Everybody knows that the clear stuff doesn't hold up well over time. And my Titans Return Hot Rod has a very nasty split down the middle of his cockpit window (the gray hinge parts are split across the middle, with the yellow piece unaffected somehow). Other figures have held up miraculously, but this worries me...especially given how it opens & closed for transformation.

Whatever, I still dig it, it's my modernized update on G1 PMOP, which is what the original point of the CHUG line was: modernized updates on ol' skool G1 favorites. Like this right here that I included. It was a pain to set up, but it was worth it. God Ginrai takes out Devastator. (Cool Become Brave downsized CW Devastator KO; the piece that connects Bonecrusher to Hook broke, soooooo...) Still wish we'd gotten proper full body releases of Minerva (easy Chromedome retool...extensive, but easy), Cab, Shuta/Go-Shooter (not that odd repaint of Generations Bumblebee), Wilder aka Fangry (Grotusque retool?), Bullhorn aka Horri-bull (maybe a retool of Repugnus?), & Cancer aka Squeezeplay (easy Doublecross retool, that could've been SIX total uses of that Doublecross mold)...

Did anyone else give their Super Ginrai / Powermaster Optimus Prime the cannons of the original Powermaster Optimus Prime? He just looks a whole lot better with them. I also wanted to give him his original Powermaster guns as well, but they don't quite fit and easily fall out of his fists. I should sand the guns down to make them fit, but I've never been one to sand or cut away at my toys. The 80s guns and cannons do make the toy's appearance pop a whole lot more than the weedy cannons and guns the toy does come with.

Maaan, I ain't even got my G1 PMOP anymore. Even missed out on the Commemorative Series reissue set (that's basically a Hasbro boxed God Ginrai set).

This query is more for the God Ginrai combination. Has anyone have any tips on attaching and detaching God Bomber's torso from Super Ginrai's backpack WITHOUT stressing the tiny tiny clips?

Getting those clips on and off and seeing those white stress lines will give me nightmares for days to come.

    jya na!

Forgot how great this figure is. I picked it up back in the day and he's still on my shelf.

I thought I posted those pictures long ago. But it doesn't seems so.
I recently bought the "Primitive" black repaint of the Titans Return Optimus and took out the LG-35 for comparisons. And remember how I love this version.
Especially paired with the LG Bumblebee. It gives a sense of scale I really like in both modes !

    IMG_2288-s.jpg IMG_2291-s.jpg IMG_2295-s.jpg IMG_2298-s.jpg IMG_2300-s.jpg

And it works as a play set. BB can fit into the trailer with ease.
    IMG_2309-s.jpg

Especially since, thanks to the ports in the forearms, all the cannons can fit into the trailer too while saving enought space for a vehicule.

    IMG_2322-s.jpg
And I have the "two pack" version with transclucid windshield and it's nice the way you can see both pilots into the cabins.
    IMG_2303-s.jpg

Sure it has strange feet. But not enough to keep me from enjoying the rest.

Huh. Neat. Didn't know that storing the guns on the inside was even a possibility. Where exactly did you connect them? I may have to try that out - it's a different look from the usual armed up look.
