?

Do you think this new product could be stepping away from what we love about Transformers as toys?

He was expecting somewhere around the ~$1000 mark when we were going over the components.

Actually it wasn't coherent at all. But I actually quoted it the way I did so that the half-page of text didn't get reposted and full up the page yet again, and as a joke. Sorry you're too wound up to laugh.

And I did read everything you wrote and that's not what you said. You clearly said that not being being touchy-feely with your toy takes away all joy and satisfaction. My point is there are other ways to have joy and satisfaction. And if your point was actually "I hope they continue to make normal transformers for those that want to do things the old way, because I'm worried they're going to shift ALL production to this type of toy"... Jesus man we still make LEGOs that are just rectangles of plastic. There will always be a market for "simple".

I mean this thing isn't even really a Transformer. Hastak never would have made this on their own. This is an existing, third party, real piece of robot technology that is being skinned to look like a character we recognize as a limited licensing deal. Maybe for that reason it isn't for you, that's totally fine. If a company made beanies that had different designs when you turn them inside out, and Hasbro officially licensed it to look like Optimus on one side and a truck on the other, it would pretty much be just as a much of an official transformer as this thing is. There's no danger of the transformers toys as we know them being pulled in this direction aside from continuing to have automated transformers toys for babies in line with what already exists. (Not saying you're suggesting that, but other users and the poll question are trying to stir up that conversation.)

Not bad. Not bad at all! Especially since they got Cullen's voice. Thanks for sharing. :)

Source? I think you're thinking of the 5000 components. I don't think they've said at all how many they're making. I totally could have missed it though.

I didn't take a screenshot, but I did the "view source code" trick to check and searched for "inventory". Yeah, they never said how many they were making.

    I'm torn.

Part of me wants this just cuz it's cool.

Another part of me sees this as a collector's item the same way I saw MP-1 when it first came out which is why I kept mine sealed: It was a first of its kind that I thought esthetically wasn't something that wowed me to take out and display unlike newer MPs IMO.

I keep watching videos though and I continue to consider pre-ordering.

I know, I was simply voicing my opinion, you know, the things you do in a forum. :)  I certainly wasn't expecting a bunch of replies.

It's a moot point since it appears to be sold out for now, but I think if there was ever a figure that has to be opened and appreciated in motion, it would be this one. Seeing it in motion is perhaps the entire selling point of this figure. If you don't think it looks good and therefore might not want to open it, then there's no reason to get one at all.

I showed my wife ..she walked over to her computer and pre ordered it..felt guilty because i am still basking in the greatness of my cang toys firmament..she just said "you have to have it". My favorite quote from her is something like this "i dont understand your toy thing..but it makes you happy"
    God i love my wife.
    Now:
    1. I was a teenager when g1 first came out..yes im old. Transformers (and others, voltron, robotech, etc..) have always been a big part of my enjoyment and inspiration for my art.
This being said as a person who has been in since the start..HELL YES I WANT THIS..are you kidding me, this thing is everything the enjoyment and ispiration of sci fi and robot based series has brought to our lives. Self transforming..come on does it get any better.
    2. On a sobering note..yes its exspensive..if you donnot think the cost is worth the product cool..but dont bash it based on price..i can 100% garauntee that anyone who enjoys transformers and was given one for free would enjoy it and have nothing but good to say about it
    3. And for those that say a self transforming transformer defeats the purpose or reason behind transformers..to you i say "huh, what?"

Sorry that was long winded..in short this thing is awsome..cant wait to get it..haters go hate on something else

I don't care about the price, but I view it as the first iteration of a new technology that will eventually get better, cheaper, and more readily available.

Do I REALLY want to sink $700 into an experience? Or do I wait 5 years until it's a common thing I can handle for half the price? I dunno.

Do you guys remember when Star Wars BB8 Sphero came out like 6 years ago?

This is obviously 100,000 times better, but the novelty with these types of toys will probably wear off pretty quick?

    Just my opinion.
