?

Do you think this new product could be stepping away from what we love about Transformers as toys?

The selling point of this figure for me is that for the first time ever, I could own a Transformer that is able to do what it did in the cartoons, which is to transform itself. It’s something I’ve wondered about and thought we’re still pretty far away from getting something like this. I have hundreds of other figures (as I’m sure most of us on these forums also have) that I can transform to get my puzzle fix, so getting this figure as something entirely different is a good thing in my book.

Well I don't collect a lot of figures since I'm dipping my toes into kingdom due to BW, but I liked the puzzle aspect of transforming a figure.

This was exactly my thought process when I hit preorder. This is pure novelty, and I’m 100% in. I’ve never geeked out so hard over a reveal in all my years of collecting. That alone convinced me I was destined to get one.

I really hope they don't just stop with Optimus, I could see a line of figures such as Bumblebee, or Megatron. Feels like the future right now.

Really wish they had some kind of installment plan. It's a bit out of reach at the moment. That being said, going to do my best to grab this guy. A figure like this is a lifelong dream come true.

Just because you're not touching doesn't mean you're not getting any of the stuff you're talking about. This isn't a singing fish that you press a button and once it finishes its song and dance you're done. It's programmable. Assuming that it works as advertised, you're limited to your own imagination at what you could do with this. People make stop-motion videos with transformers. Well now you can make a full-motion video! Script it all out, learn to program the movements and away you go! Just because it's different doesn't make it bad.

No it doesn't. It enables the purpose! Yeah, some people enjoy the puzzle of the transformation (and guess what we still have those and we always will!). But if you tell me when you were a kid you never wished your Optimus could transform himself, you're either a liar or a sad kid.

I would like to see an auto-forming Dinobot and Grimlock.

But if not enough people buy it, then there's no incentive to evolve the tech, and this is the best you're going to get until in 20 years someone else takes a stab with the tech available then and the new wave of nostalgia.

Yeah no. I never felt sad as I kid that I had to transform any Optimus. Like ever.
Transforming itself never occurred to me personally because...that would suck all the fun out of it.

My "Entirely too many words" was written to be its own topic and then merged with this one.
Sue me for coherently making my case. If you don't have the time, don't bother reading it.
You must not have as, what I said at the end was exactly that,
By no means do I think its bad. I think Hasbro should be careful about how the proceed.
I would be disappointed for this to become the standard. Like I said in my post,
with how folks function in this day and age, that assumption is not much of a stretch.

Yeah when buying such a figure one has to be in the mindset of being an early adopter. Maybe in two years there will be a version much more advanced that costs half the price, maybe not, but part of the price we are paying here is for the privilege to experience it right now.

It’s only a Model T if it sells well.
    Otherwise it’s an Edsel

Hope they do Scrapper, Hook, Longhaul, Bonecrusher, Mixmaster and Scavenger next and then they transform into Devastator.

Most places in the world would have a monthly rent less than $700. Surely that's true of a lot of the US as well?
