This is absolutely correct. I learned this yesterday, in fact. I bought the Takara one and got it yesterday, stood it next to Koot/Jabber/Rouge, and it looks scrawny and short next to them. That’s what I get for reading this thread for months and deciding it’s not worth paying extra for a mediocre bot. Now I think I’m just gonna stick it out in hopes that something better comes along for a price I’m willing to pay.

The pendulum definitely swung too far with some of the criticisms of Hoodlum, I think. His alt mode is not good and without the shoulder upgrades, I'm only so/so on the robot mode, but MP-28 just doesn't do it for me either. It looks amazing with the cell-shaded decal on the windscreen, but I despise the robot mode.

Hoodlum can at least be situated to look like he's the same type of toy next to Locke, Rouge, etc. if you deal with his shrugging problem.

It’s not as bad people make it out to be. The lack of up and down movement on the head is inexcusable in this day and age, especially considering that he already has a ball jointed head, but he looks the part in bot mode. The colors really pop. And while the alt mode is a little thicker vertically than is ideal (like the G1 toy), it looks good. And it doesn’t collapse under its own weight. It’s miles better than MP-28.

Studio Series Hot Rod smokes both of them though. It’s just way too small for an MP shelf.

I never got the hate for the alt mode. I think it is superior to TT. Yeah TT is sleak but it can barely roll, isn’t accurate to the toon. I think Hoodlum nails the bot mode with limited articulation, and if you mod the helmet and get the shoulder upgrades it helps.

Awesome. Thanks. I figured that’s what it was but wasn’t sure. I bought this second hand so I’m happy to have a signed copy in my collection.

The FansToys alt mode always looked like the old G1 toy to me. In robot mode, his neck mobility only bothers me so much but the overall face sculpt, I’m so-so on.

But I love the sleek, well-proportioned look of Takara’s alt mode, especially with the decals. As much as the shoulder upgrades really make the FT robot mode pop, I feel the same way about Takara’s Lambo if you just put the decals on it. I’ve been wondering about MP-40 and the nicer paint, but between the more movie-accurate color of MP-28 and the fact I’d have t buy a new set of labels, I’ve just stuck with this. 3CDE7A71-2FE2-4379-960F-39F5FAFE958E.jpeg 20C02249-C276-4448-94E6-9D1B301A78C3.jpeg

Hoodlum is a great figure that suffers from taking so long to be released after being finalized with no updating the engineering at any point during that time. Its would have been figure of the year material had FansToys released it on schedule.

I think what makes the Takara alt mode so nice is the subtle S curve to the top of the car, it just looks extra sleek and finessed. Hoodlum looks good, just not pushed as far as the TT alt.

I think both alt modes look good, though I do like MP-28's a smidge better. But MP-28's robot mode is just nowhere close to worthy of being on a Masterpiece shelf.

One thing I've never given Hoodlum enough credit for, by the way, is that he's a Fanstoys season 3 bot who actually has a fairly easy transformation (basically, the only one). If it wasn't for his risk of paint chipping, I would transform him a lot more often.

I have mp 28 and I'm not overly happy with him but he'll do. I don't like his tiny head or matchstick legs, or the chest. But I certainly don't find him horrible. I also don't think Hoodlum is great either, so i haven't bothered to swap out yet. There's something about the face sculpt that just seems off. I have mostly FT in my movie shelf, but I don't think mp 28 or mmc azalea look too out of place in my opinion, 20201005_183901.jpg
My movie shelf is one that I'm actually pretty happy with. (I'm just happy ollie can stand up!)

This was a complicated decision for me which left me with a modified Hoodlum in robot mode and a Takara Hot Rod in car mode, but I think these are all of the major problems I have with each figure's aspects too.

Mp28 robot is terrible. From the stick legs to the panelled collar bones and wide shoulders to the wedge torso that is only there to incorporate a gimmick few ppl use.

    Nope.

Hoodlum has his issues but he's the far superior display piece:

FT have an odd movie line up imo. I think they destroy the competition with Arcee but dropped the ball with Kup and Springer as pure display pieces. Kup oddly suffers from some of the same issues I have with mp28 and Springer is too chonky. Blurr is literally the only viable option so gets a pass.

We need FT Blaster and a new Perceptor (not sold with the FT v2) too.

Edit - although there is a display option and argument for owning all 3 MP Hot Rods.....

No problem. You might want to contact Ebay customer service to find out what's going on. USA customers will be missing out on some of your products.

I should really stop coming here to this thread as I was ready to sell hoodlum and then reading all this just inspired me to take some photos. But still he is just so hard to pose despite the shoulder upgrades and working on his head/neck to increase his range of head motion.
I don't know, every time I decide to sell this guy that darn Fans Toys effect of diecast metal and quality stops me from getting rid of this beauty queen!
I have to unwatch this thread for my own sanity.

Yeah, he certainly is limited in terms of articulation. But he is a looker. I held out pretty long before getting him, and am happy that I finally did (before the prices skyrocketed).
