Absolutely perfect set, and one of the few times that retro 5 POA setups feels appropriate. There is literally nothing about this that I don’t love. Legit question - How does licensing work on a set like this? Since the Fleischer cartoons are all public domain now, can you make Superman toys that very, VERY specifically reference them without going through WB/DC? I ask because I’m not seeing the DC logo on the product shots, unlike almost all of Mezco’s other DC stuff. Edit - Not only am I not seeing the DC logo, the Fleischer-specific Superman logo doesn’t even have a trademark next to it (unlike the Batman ‘66 5 PoA product shots from a while back). That’s a very weird little detail. Not surprised that a company already holding a DC license would be the first to try this (if the hammer of WB’s legal department comes down, you’ve already got a fallback), but if they’ve legitimately found a way to make Superman toys without licensor approval, that’s just fascinating.
So I found a Todd Mcfarlane Batman the other day, but a leg sheared off right out of the box. Not gonna lie, I was pretty devastated. Does Mcfarlane send replacement copies for broken figures?
Sweet, that's good to hear. It was the regular release. Here are a few pics, don't mind the glue. I think the joint was stressed right out of the box, the first time I tried to move the leg forward, it tore off.
Interesting, thanks for the pics. It’s rare to see that breakage on TodDC figures however that figure specifically(Gold Label and regular) has been seen on a few copies(like my gold label one, same exact breakage on the left leg). Ironically cracking through on both clips somewhat fixed it(stays attached better but lost the ability to hold position between detent clicks).
No problem. That's too bad to hear this has multiple cases of QC issues, I really like the design of this figure. Hopefully if I get a replacement it won't have problems.
I’m hoping replacement hip clips can be provided as they’re small and it’d be easier just to ship out spares rather than an entirely new leg. Maybe the clips used were made from a weaker batch of plastic compared to all their other figures. I say that since this is the only TodDc figure(regular and Gold Label) that has this issue AFAIK. I thought maybe it was isolated to the Gold Label one but then I started reading more reports of it breaking on the regular one.
You might be a bit luckier than that. I emailed Mcfarlane and about an hour or two later they emailed me a tracking number for a new figure.
Funny that Todd recently posted that the BAF Batman Beyond figure is now available in-store at Target. Which Target? Lol!
This. I'd only add that I have near zero interest in Superman but that is a very attractive set. Very.
Ugh. When this went up it was the masked Flashpoint Batman, but has since been changed to the unmasked version. What the hell, BBTS??! I ordered a masked version and now there’s an unmasked version in my pre order list. I think an email at the very least was warranted here.
I thought there was an announcement or notice made that Todd changed it and they didn't have a say on it.
Decided I needed to make my DC figures from the various companies play together. It did not go well. _DSC0035.jpg by offramp_climber, on Flickr
