Not seeing the big deal with dick Utonium. They're just following in the grand comic book tradition of everyone from Charles Xavier to Niles Caulder to Reginald Hargreaves.

I think that's exactly the problem. It's incredibly predictable, a tired trope of revealing that well-known, well-liked characters were actually secretly awful all along. And you know, I get it, people are complicated, no one is perfect, but maybe they don't also need to secretly be villains behind every bad thing that happens?

That wouldn't even be out of continuity with the show - Dick Hardly isn't actually killed on screen (unlike the Rowdyruffs), he's last seen being mobbed by a horde of imperfect clones inside a building which only later is shown burning to the ground. He absolutely could have escaped that somehow.

Because the one defining trait above all else when it came to the Professor was that he genuinely wanted to be the best father for his daughters? Sure he could be oblivious and he wasn't perfect, but there was no line the man would not cross without hesitation if it meant protecting his children from any kind of threat, physical or otherwise (usually it was actually others trying to exploit their superhero status like the movie director episode where he has to dress in drag to expose the PPG movie project as an elaborate bank heist). This even extended to Mojo Jojo when the monkey tried playing the "I'm technically your son" card and painted a tragic backstory the Professor entirely bought (until he got hit in the head by something and then remembered what a little shit pre-accident Mojo was from day 1 as well as sending Mojo into shock upon revealing the true cause of the accident that created the PPG was Mojo all along).

HIM did resurrect them in the 5th season.
Oh god. I don't even want to think about what this show is going to do with HIM, if they use the character at all.

    So...
    • The Rebels will be hiding out on a snow planet even though the majority of the cast are more familiar with warm desert worlds. One has to imagine they won't be fairing very well in this weather (or the creators will just suddenly give them cold winter survival skills because they'd rather have a snowy planet than stay true to what was established)
    • Luke is going to go learn the Force from some little Muppet character, when the previous installment established a Jedi mentor of dignity and sophistication. You know, a British gentleman. Like knights are supposed to be.
    • Darth Vader is going to be Luke's father even though Obi-Wan specifically outlined the fate of Luke's father and this goes against what was said. But of course they care about the shock value of the reveal more than protecting the integrity of Obi-Wan's character. Typical.
It's obvious that Kasdan and Kershner don't care about the franchise. They should just make their own Space Opera movie, but because Star Wars was such a hit they want to use the name and cash in and undercut what made it great in the first place.

ANYTHING SOUNDS BAD WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT IT LIKE THIS

Huh, I must have missed that episode.

*googles the PPG wiki, verifies this did indeed happen and the boys came back - with improved designs and by fan demand no less!*

Well, I take back everything I said about them being out of place because they're dead.

How about some script snippets, then? My buddy finally got these to me and...boy I can't wait to see the spin you put on how these are not entirely awful.

    Script1.png

We're still in the first episode and we're already broaching that topic. Oh joy.

    Script2.png

This is so 4th wall breaking it hurts. And not in a good way.

    Script3.png

Any more talking about 'reboots' and it'll outclass the self-awareness of Cartman from the South Park video games, specifically The Fractured But Whole when it comes to the 'million dollar superhero franchise'.

If that leak's real I called a couple of things one of the girls dating a Rowdyruff boy, Buttercup being lesbian, Mojo getting killed, and an evil mayor type character.

Like others have mentioned if the budget is making the story change maybe it is something that should not be made. It's like trying to create a live-action Transformers show but not being able to show them because of budget.

I will be honest I think a live-action Powerpuff girls show or movie could work but on the CW with this team is a big no. If it was like Doom Patrol airing on HBO Max with a good budget sure I could see it working helps that Doom Patrol has a team that takes advantage of the strange and goofy by embracing it.

Also, I am less bother with the Professor being evil is that he created the villains the girls fight that bothers me so Him, Medusa, and Fuzzy are all just created by the Professor makes them feel less unique they are just science experiments now. Plus reminds me way too much of Supernatural's final season the good guy is really a bad guy making us fight villains for his own ego. I actually like Supernatural only good CW show just saying it reminds me a lot of that final season.

Now you're attacking it for something so common in the original that it has a page devoted to it on the wiki: Fourth Wall Breaks

Like, do you even like PPG or are you just hating this for hate's sake?

Do you even remember what this show is supposed to be?

The 4th wall breaking is wildly out of tone with this idea that it's a 'more mature' take with the girls all being disillusioned 20-somethings. Are we supposed to find it funny that Blossom's devolved into a neurotic mess, Bubbles is a bitchy has-been, and Buttercup is basically every single stereotype about lesbians ever because she was the tomboy of the trio? That the entirety of their familial structure has become broken, quite possibly a lie regarding the professor, and it's going to be vapid relationship garbage like most CW shows instead of the original cartoon having plots centered around actually fighting villains? I mean, it's already painfully obvious Jojo Jr. is going to sleep with one of the three, if not all three, at some point. Why else would they remove Mojo Jojo from play and replace him with what I presume is an attractive human actor much in the same way Disney tried to make Kylo Ren into new sexy Darth Vader except the whole reason he isn't permanently disfigured after TFA is because of the marketability of Adam Driver's face.

Why are you even still defending this schlock anyway? You admitted the show doesn't seem like something you'd be interested in anyway, yet you're the one calling me out for 'hating for hating's sake' when the whole bloody internet universally is criticizing every iota of this shitshow's existence. What is the point of identifying red flags if you aren't even going to bother heeding obvious warning signs?

The bad daddy trope, I called that after I heard the vague plot. It is very over used at this point.
Everything I'm reading about this is pick a trope and add it to a character that didn't have it in the old show.
Again they don't know storytelling at the CW, just how to use over used tropes and political themes. You see it in all their show now. They don't write the story and decide on adjustments. They pick the trope and write the stories around them.

Because he likes defending things most people don't like, even if he himself doesn't like it. He's out to make snarky comments that get a reaction out of those who read it. Then once he defends stuff, nothing you say will change his opinion no matter what evidence you give. He's out for angry or annoyed reactions. Just ignore him, by responding your giving him what he wants a point he can argue endlessly.

"More mature" than the original show doesn't have to swing all the way over to The Dark Knight Returns. It can be about disillusioned 20-somethings and be funny and irreverent and stuff.

I'm not even defending it. I'm saying we don't have enough to judge either way. This thread is already 15 pages of anger and bile and we don't know anything.

If everything's a red flag, nothing is a red flag.

Kenny's the Narrator, it's nothing more than a 'bone being thrown to the fans' since we already know...well, everything about this show is shit. Except the themesong but I'm scared that's going to be just as much of an abomination.

By the pictures alone this probably won't get passed the pilot stage. But I could be wrong and if it becomes a hit than well that's unexpected.

    This the CW.

Batwoman shouldn't have gotten past the pilot and got abysmal ratings...yet it's going to have three seasons.
