Did the panel get floppy after you drilled it or doesn't it matter? BTW, could you take a picture of the offending screw and panel so idiots like myself know what to look for?

Damnit. Was more than happy with X-Transbots Neptune but the side-by-side comparisons I've seen have me questioning that decision. I think Spindrift 2 being the same height swings it a little - for some reason I'd assumed he'd be really short.

Will no doubt wait for more side-by-side comparison videos (come on BSF).

My copy didn't have paint chips on the bottom of the feet and I transformed him back and forth a few times so you may have got unlucky with the QC roll. The loose ankles caused by the screw is a little annoying like MOnolith's wrists or those side ab things on FT spoiler but that's really my only complaint with this guy. Articulation isn't the best but out of the 4 FT minibots that recently released, spindrift has the most personality and is probably my favorite.

Yeah, they did a little, but I did that on purpose. Luckily it's literally just that little flip out panel, which stays in place in vehicle mode totally fine, and mostly fine in robot mode.

The ankle joint itself is unaffected and still snug as before.

This is the screw you want to remove

And it's just these two, small, inner panels that need the holes widened. Just the small ones that flip up to store the guns.

I find it hard to believe, but I'm buying another "MP-style" Seaspray! At $100+, to boot!

It looks that much better than Zeta's Wavebreak (or whatever they named it).

FT, bring on ALL of your "mini-bots/-cars"!

Do you think this will be a wide spread problem? I'm testing mine out now.

I’d guess yes. The holes on mine were very snug, like an actual screw hole meant to hold parts together. And it sounds like others are as well.

Now, the difference will be, who considers it an actual issue, minor annoyance, or couldn’t care less.

I did the surgery on the flip out panel and it became floppy. But it doesn't affect anything in either mode unless you hold the alt-mode upside down, so it doesn't bother me in the least. Very small price to pay to get ankle joint that doesn't become loose with every transformation.

I think this is a 100% problem with this figure since all of the panels were probably made the same way, with that hole being too small and becoming a threaded hole after the long screw is installed. I believe every review I've seen so far mentioned that joint becoming loose.

It’s not an issue to me. Just another thing to fix. Thanks for taking the dive and showing us the fix.

What about using a screw tightening agent or something to keep the screw(s) from coming apart?

I think the problem is that the flip out panel piece should be able to rotate freely along the screw, which should have been a pin with threads only at the end. It's assembled such that the hole in the flip out panel becomes threaded, so when transforming the figure it kind of unscrews the joint, making it loose. Increasing the hole diameter of the flip out panel so that it clears the threads on the screw appears to correct the problem. Using a screw tightening agent might work too, but I think maybe the flip out panel (with the threaded hole) will work to loosen it if the tightening agent isn't strong enough.

Yep, totally all this. The hole in the small panel was even tighter than the threaded hole on the other side of the foot to hold it altogether.

Because that small panel IS threaded, when it shouldnt be, if you rotate it, and the screw doesn't move, that panel is going to want to move up and down the screw shaft. But it has nowhere to go, is suspect it'll force the screw to loosen.

20210407_190901.jpg Just got this guy. I think he's my fave mini bot of the 4 FT have released.

He's got the easiest and most fun transformation (although none of the others were bad), his knee hasn't come apart (but he does get loose after transformation), and he's a lot better than a very good figure (Neptune) that I'm now replacing. So thanks FT!

Now for some 2021 figures! (Box still says 2020 because it was supposed to come out in December).

I do love the bot mode - do think its better than XTB too but I like the engineering of XTB's transformation. FTv2 almost feels a bit just like a lay down shell with all the emptiness that almost gives a bit of fragility to it compared to the solidness of XTB's. The alt mode is weirdly long too. I've always like the realistic looking alt modes though I understand the current tendency for toon accurate versions. I'll probably keep FT's as bot and XTB for an alt mode. I also have V1 which is just different maybe more toy like but can't compare to the others really.
