Again, a little short, but eh, I won't be displaying them together. Thanks!
I miss when leader figures were tall...

Yeah, Grimlock's quite tall. Even taller than Kingdom Ultra Magnus!

Honestly I think he was scaled to go along with Kingdom size, because ever since IDW and the Fall of Cybertron game, and heck even in some cases of generation 1, grimlock has been a beefy chonker. And in many cases many times larger than any other autobot.

So him being quite a bit taller than Optimus or even ultra Magnus does not bother me for Kingdom line. It just makes me think of his proportions in war for cybertron. he literally played differently from any other character just because of his size and the mechanic that went into how he played in general.

EDIT: Sorry, Fall of Cybertron. Pfft, and I call myself a fan. SCORN. A POX ON THEE.

So I picked up the Nonnef kit and I gotta say I love it! The sword and clear chest piece make it so much better. I love the implementation of the forearm covers too even if it feels like I need to rescrew them every other transformation. The teeth look pretty dang good and nicely fill out his dino mode mouth. And the sword and crown are the perfect cherries on top. I'll update this post with some pics later but dang it all if this didn't finish elevating Grimlock to full masterpiece levels.

Just installed mine as well. The screw cover for his snout didn't fit and I lost it while I was trying to sand it to size. Other than that it's a pretty well designed kit. Fixes the minor flaws that kept this guy from being all he could be.

I guess a few people like the Nonnef kit. Looks terrible IMHO. I would be upset if I got that kit in the mail. People in the Nonnef thread aren't exactly thrilled with it either.

If anything, the chest window should have been available separately to complement other makers' kits, although people are also noticing fit issues.

I was in it for the chest piece and sword. For the price I feel it delivered. Wasn't interested in the crown and the forearm covers fit well. I think including new hardware would have been icing on the cake. Unsure of the using the original screws will be too short to hold up to constant use with the covers.

I dunno why all the complaints are happening i think it looks great. Sure the colors arent perfectly matched but ive seen some upgrade kits that are way worse. Also everything here is solid and feels good. The sword pegs in great in his hand and looks awesome!

The screw covers were a total surprise for me also, had no idea they were coming with it so i loved that extra addition.

i really dig that the chest piece is just a peg in bit rather than screwing in. Not sure why i just like that its easy to remove and swap back with the original part if i desired.

I think the one thing i wished was better was the fit of the crown. It just rests on his head rather than actually pluggin on at all but thats totally fine to save from scuffage.

Well, you just showed off the various reasons why people are legitimately complaining about it. The kit looks significantly worse than the preview pics Nonnef, um, eventually showed.

Granted, if people ordered it without being able to see what they ordered, then that's 100% their fault for not waiting.

On the other hand, the preview pics make it seem like the color difference wasn't that bad. I still haven't seen anyone's in-hand pics showing a closer match like the preview pics. In that case, then people would have a legitimate gripe of the preview pics being misleading (despite Nonnef's warning). This is the part that bums me out the most.

Doesn't matter if other kits on other figures are mismatched color wise. That doesn't mean this one gets a free pass either.

Chest window not being screwed in, well, that depends. Seeing the various complaints about it, if it's snug, then it may be ok. If it's loose, well, that's an obvious problem. I know of 2 fixes for that off the top of my head. My only technical nitpick about the chest window (both colorless and sm

The kit should have included new screws for the forearm panels since stock is not long enough to keep them stable in place.

The plugs, uh, look pretty rough in your pic. Even if they were perfectly matched, I still wouldn't advise putting them in...yet. The plugs could prevent future upgrades or mods, in particular, the 2nd most requested mod: clear dino neck pieces. The dino head has a screw post that goes through the top of the neck pieces, which you can't see unless you've taken apart the head.

Sword is too simplistic looking to me (that's a complaint across Nonnef stuff in general outside of the color mismatch issues). However, at least it does have proper clearance.

Crown looks like a shower cap. There is only one other kit announced to have a crown, but that one gives Grimlock's head the outline of a potted plant.

Eh maybe im just easy to please but i really like the kit. If you dont like it dont buy it i suppose but im pretty into how it looks. Cant blame ya if you just outwardly dont like it but it works for me.

ps i like the crowns look cause it feels like what he would have had in the toon if it showed up. Very stumpy rounded proportions, i think its a more cartoon like take on how it would look

I drilled a hole into leader Last Knight Megs flame effect parts and gave Grimlock this way his iconic flame breath.

Orange sword and smoked chest seems like a good balance. Sword was a 3 piece unit and the translucent plastic seems much nicer than the solid red. Forearm panels aren't a 100% match but close enough i won't see it from the shelf. Teeth were chromed so color didn't matter anyway. 20210407_112249.jpg 20210407_112305.jpg 20210407_112330.jpg

Received my Grimlock from Kapow Toys today - and sadly, he's afflicted by the loose backpack wings issue; the right wing in particular moves freely with zero friction at the light grey hinge. At first glance, it doesn't even appear like this section can be disassembled. Any thoughts on possible fixes would be appreciated!

    Cheers!

I don't have access to any Future currently, but I have tried multiple applications of silicone glue (Loctite Blue, both low and medium strength), and allowing it to seep into the hinge.

Yeah, Future is your answer unfortunately.
Had the same with mine. Let some Future work it's way into the pin; rock solid wings now.

SS86 Grimlock with KO Black Mamba Oversized Power of the Primes Grimlock. This is no contest.

My only gripe with SS86 Grimlock is that the plastic feels cheap. And I'm not normally one to gripe about plastic quality. Maybe it's the fact that I've gotten used to the plastic quality on the latest siege and Earthrise figures and SS86 Grimlock doesn't live up to that.
