I may be a bit late to this party, but I just got these figures opened up today. It's wild how what completes the figure is the other figure. The contrast they bring to each other is great, and they truly work much better together then apart.

These should have been a two pack in my opinion. Funny how they package some figures together that shouldn't and don't with ones that should.

That would have been a stellar 2 pack.

I just wish I could find runabout. It makes me annoyed asf I couldn't get him when I found him at Target

    I still haven't found Runabout. A two-pack would've been ideal.

But why do they have to do what they did the first time.

Yup, I have those as well and replacing them with these.

    I’d just like a wave 3 reissue
Every bot in the wave is a ‘partner’ and it got horrible distribution world wide

It would have been a cool 2 pack but probably not financially viable for Hasbro. Two pack would double the cost, and most of the sales are still kids with no connection to G1. One mass market release and one exclusive probably helped maximize their profits.

that would have been stellar, and also made sense, but you know making sense is never a plan

At the very least don't sell one at regular retail then make the other a damn exclusive.

WFC has been very profit driven and it works since I keep buying sets to sell off what I don't want. Ratchet + Lifeline, Ratbat + The Rest. And I'm going to have to buy Earth mode Sideswipe and Mirage and sell off the beasts packed with them. The exclusives are very anti-consumer and I've paid that ebay tax on them. But end of the day, Hasbro does what it has to, to make money.

Nah, two-packs suck for anyone who wants only one of the two (and yes, there are such people).

The real answer is making both the toys properly available to purchasers, which Hasbro just doesn't do.

Hell no, that would mean their mold would be an exclusive, atleast with runamuck there was a chance for people to get the mold

Well, they do go together. I don’t know if they should have come in a 2 pack, but the real stupid things was having one available at retail and the other impossible to find (for some of us). At one point I could have got Runamuck and then I told myself...if I pick him, I NEED to have the other, right ? Then I realised I would have to find Runabout on ebay and pay 3X for basically the same figure a different color. Screw that.

Hell nah. The black one just should have been a regular release. A two-pack would just be another exclusive that you'd have to jump through hoops to get.

I just wish their car modes had been retooled at least a little bit to differentiate them that way.

    Economics.

Exclusives get lower production runs and therefore cost more per unit to make against the same mainline class. Creating a new mold is most of a figures cost. Waves have budgets, which allow for the creation of new molds. So it's more viable for Exclusives not to be new figures and redeco'd figures instead. Some new parts are fine, but all new figures are generally too much without a price point increase for a smaller exclusive run to cover both the lower production run costs and extensive new tooling costs.

That's why Exclusives aren't entirely new figures; mass retail eats the development costs for every figure.
