I originally only did this as a fun "what-if" thing, but after redoing it it didn't actually look that bad,

It could work, with enough retooling, they have done some good retools before, would mainly need new head, hands, feet and wings, but the rest isn't far off.

 

If they could chop off the wings, retool the head, ditch the gauntlets, make the feet more anime, retool the chest. And give him a sword that turns into a miniship, toss in some wheels, yeah, it could work. Sounds like a lot, but it might be a lot of fun reminiscent of funpub

 

nice edit...personally i think dai atlas would be a much better option for a remold than a space ape.

 

I'd forgotten Dai atlas existed tbh, yeah it would work better, much more in line with how IF handles retools.

Kinda like the idea of a buff Star Saber though, like his equivalent to Magnus' upgraded armour.

It was the shoulders and transformation that I thought was familiar.

I also hope to have that "space ape" arrive in the post this week or next.

Does anyone have both pocket toys and if bruticus that can lend an eye to quality? I have the pocket toys version and it gets stress marks really easily and all over the place. The grey cannot piece in onslaught's back is falling apart, as are the helicopter blades. And somehow there are stress marks where the purple cannons peg into the combined mode back. Is the if version worth upgrading to or should i just keep the pt one and not transform it often?

 

I have both. PT has less plastic quality than IF.
Got problems too. Broken pieces.
I don't combine the PT. No problem with the IF on mine.

Only comparison I've seen is from this video

according to it the difference in quality is at most negligible, but considering your experience it might be some differences figure-to-figure. (also it's half the price!)

 

Finally got my hand on 2 of these guys (namely the Samurai Series) and boy am I IMPRESSED with them. Super fun to pose with articulation that gives MP-scale figures a run for their money! I can't wait for more of them to come out!

Seeing Newage and Magic Square's Cliffjumper makes me really appreciate IF's take. I'm not into toon-accuracy since I never grew up with G1 but the robot mode looks real nice with MOMA!

 

Agree! IF takes so much heat for “poor alt modes” but here we have the other 2 major legends designers with misses (in my opinion). NA Galvatrons feet sticking out in alt mode, the laughable alt modes for the SG Megatron and Straxus remolds, feel free to add any others...  

 

But are the majority of people buying them for thier collection displaying them in their alt mode or the bot mode because most posts i see are their in bot mode so Sg megs alt mode isn’t a bother to me because me personally I’ll never have him in it

 

I always play them or keep them all in a big box with other toy. So both form is important.
IF alt mode overall is hit or miss.
Megatron tank mode is unbearable, Drift and Tarn have their hand stick out etc.
But the bot with earth alt is legit good

 

You do know that you can remove the hands on tarn and I think drift too just saying
