Yepper. Most things comes on sprues. I use an xacto to trim them.

I had him a few days before I got the upgrade parts, so I had just left them that way. After putting the covers on, I will probably leave them that way just 'cuz I like having the single claw on top and the double claws curved around the bottom of his hand.

Ok, received my new Hot Rod. Great detailed figure. But really, really small. I don’t remember him that small against others in film? He’s just taller than Arcee.
I take it because he upgrades to Rodimus and I assume he roughly the same height as Prime? Would have just bought Rodimus.

No, it's not you. It's the general consensus of the figure. Deluxe sized bot in Voyager sized packaging with a modicum of engineering and accessories to justify it.
... and it still seems unjustified.

So many act like he's some wonderful, game-changing figure, but to me he's an accessory pack for other Hot Rods with a disappointing version of the character.

The main thing he has going for him is "show accuracy". Since I don't really care about that, I've focused on other criteria, and in those areas he's less than ideal. Poor shoulders, weak pegs ( the ones connecting his pipe sections in car mode are prone to breaking), poor car mode (knees instead of even a suggestion of a proper back end). And for me, the "proper" show accurate transformation just doesn't look as nice - you can see I've left the panel with the wheels and pipes out on his legs. That's deliberate, as I like attractively displayed kibble. If I had any 3D design ability, I'd make rear bumper panels to fit into that space in his legs that this minor fanmode opens up. New shoulders that extend out to allow decent movement would be a worthwhile upgrade as well.

What SS86 does well it does VERY well, don't get me wrong. But he's got some pretty significant flaws, as well, ones that I don't consider forgivable on the most expensive mainline Hot Rod to date.

I found him all round rather good, and I really like the car mode.

One thing I did find wanting: the arm posing is awkward. It’s something I saw a few complaints about on the forum, and I took it with a pinch of salt, since ... well I’m sure you’ve seen how things get blown out of proportion on the forum. Cough! Galvatron/Rodimus threads. Cough!

But in hand... they were right. I think it’s to do with those high shoulders (that are needed to be fair as they’re true to the character) and the joints used. I’m not much of an engineer, so I can’t say if they could have done better, but you have to manoeuvre the arms in different ways to get certain poses, ways that feel odd.

It doesn’t ruin the figure for me. I might be biased as this is the first Hotrod I’ve ever known, but he certainly looks the part. Is he worth the Voyager price-point? Difficult to say. There is some nice engineering and extras there, that you don’t get with with your average Deluxe, so maybe.

I think it probably is overpriced, but only because they all are, in their way, but value is somewhat subjective.

Agreed, definitely the best low priced official version. But he’s so tiny.

Yeah shoulders are a problem but like you said the best I’ve had.

    Got him.
    Fuck that orange guy though.
Rather have a sword and crown instead of him. :)

I actually like this figure a lot, but I'm with the rest of the internet in how it's a gross misrepresentation of scale just to meet Hasbro's package quota of x'# of figures per wave.

Mine is tight as a button and a joy to transform. I prefer limited surface detail on my robots so aesthetically he's aces.

Also, $30 is not expensive. Ya'll are just cheap af, generally speaking.

Personally I don't care about scale or size per price point, or display my figures at all. I could see how those things are bothersome if one did though.

Still the best we've ever gotten.

That's kind of the problem - he's too tight. The shoulders are restricted, and it's tough to get the exhaust pipes joined up for car mode without breakage.

I had no problem spending $50 on ER Optimus, and then another $60 to enhance him (stickers, Nonnef parts, paint markers to get the eyes yellow.) I just dropped $220 on Power Baser, one of the nicest figures I own. Sky Lynx was an excellent value for his price.

Complaining about Roddy being $30 isn't about being cheap. It's about perceived value for the money. When the earlier $10 ones were at least as large, had better posability, were sturdier and had more complete-looking car modes, I find it hard to fiddle with a small $30 version with restricted posability, fragile connections, and a back end that needs MAACO and not feel cheated.

All of his admittedly clever engineering is focused on achieving a show-accurate robot. Since I don't care about show accuracy, for me it's a lot of effort for a lackluster result, while the elements I care more about have been sacrificed. I'm sorry, but for 3x the price of TR Hot Rod and Classics Rodimus, Hasbro should have been able to improve things across the board, without sacrificing the look of the car mode or the posability to achieve "show accuracy". It's three times the price, but not even remotely 3x the value. I'm keeping an eye out for 3P kits that address my issues with Hot Rod, but honestly, I'm not sure I like him enough to spend the money improving him.

Looks cool, clear chest plate so the Autobot emblem isn’t obscured.
