I agree with this, he’s still a fantastic toy despite being dethroned in my personal collection.

    Ebay:
Universe Cyclonus, Universe Sunstreaker, RTS Spec Ops Jazz, Universe Prowl, and Universe (well Henkei) Hound are immortal molds. Best in class for like, 10 years and still stand up amazingly. Same deal with the Classic Prime mold. And I think RTS Wreck-Gar is going to join that list later this year too.

Retiring those guys to the storage bin after years of constant display with *legit* tough.

Kingdom Cheetor has convinced me that it's not possible to do a good Cheetor at a $20 price point. Trying to do a good Cheetah and a show accurate robot is too much. He should have been a $30 Voyager "Deluxe++" like Hot Rod, and included his gut gun on top of better engineering.

It bugs me seeing comparisons of old CHUG stuff to new WFC/Studio Series versions and people being like “wow what a jump we’ve made!”

Like plenty of those old figures are still fantastic and outpace their new counterparts in certain areas.

idk I guess I don’t like the idea of collecting as just getting the one “definitive” version of a character and throwing the older toys in a storage bin. I’m intrigued by the iterative process of figure development, of seeing the same characters and designs done over again but trying something new with it.

I love the numerous G1 and Bayverse Primes I have because I love seeing the different approaches taken to bring these designs alive in plastic form, even if some are shit figures. Plenty of people are probably good with ER Prime being their final, “definitive” G1 Prime but I definitely don’t want it to be the last stab at it because I want to see what aspects can be pushed further or enhanced upon.

tldr: stop saying my old toys suck now, I love those old toys

It was incredibly difficult to take classics prime and the g3 trailer out of the display. It was a combination of earth rise prime and the g3 trailers mirror gimmick going the way of all stick on mirror paper. But I’ve still got him.

My favorite era of G1 Masterpieces is and always will be Masterpiece 2.0 where the figures were hybrids of the original toy designs, the original cartoon and comic book models, and the real-world vehicles and devices that inspired the original toys.

I always found it weird and disturbing. Having put aside Kingdom Cheetor for a few weeks, I picked him up again while watching the BW cartoons. Aside from the colors being off, he is more on model than I had realized. Let us be honest - the original toy looked like it had a glandular condition. Making a robot out of an alt mode as sleek as a cheetah is not easy, let alone having to make it look like a specific preexisting robot. I think they did a fantastic job, and for those who miss the creepy gut gun, there are plenty of third party options.

And while not a toy opinion, I kinda hate how in the cartoon Cheetor persistently refers to himself as "Cheater."

ER Optimus looks great in a straight, upright stance. In poses where the legs bend at the hips, though, the proportions go all to hell. Mass is visually shifted to the thighs, leaving the torso looking oddly short. Siege OP has a better hip/thigh joint, despite the more limited articulation.

The Energon Deceptions were kinda lame and should have combined like the Autobots.

Also, Jetfire should be a space shuttle more often.

Sorry to the RiD fans, but I’d much rather have another chance at a Generations Grand Max than a Brave Max. If I had infinite space and money I’d totally want both though.

I totally 100% agree. I love the older CHUG stuff, and of course G1 still has its charms. Some of the new toys might be closer to the character models but lack in originality and are built on what came before. Also sometimes the "perceived value" just seems off because of the shoddy plastic or lack of paint apps.

Of course try explaining that to my wife.... ha. I once went on a rant to her about how all I want as a collector is the "definitive" version of a character and once I have it I don't need anything else -- this was my way of justifying why I still collect new figures. But now I find myself looking for an affordable WFC Netflix Soundwave when I was perfectly happy with the Masterpiece previously. ("It's a scale thing...." yeah right.)

I know this is extremely niche, but I vastly prefer Spacewarp to Astrotrain. I understand why they decided to go with him, but still.

I am always looking at my original CHUG toys, and then asking myself who should I replace? Let us look compare with the weakest original CHUG moulds,

Prowl, Silverstreak, and Smokescreen: The Earthrise mould does not have flip out Shoulder Cannons
ironhide and Ratchet: The Earthrise mould has their Feet sticking out in Vehicle Mode
Cheetor: The Kingdom mould has a defect where a Tab behind the Cheetah's Head breaks

The only ones that I feel like I NEED to replace are the Seekers, because the Voyager Class size is a better fit, but even so they are almost just an upsized version of the CHUG mould...

I mean objectively, some of the newer moulds are superior, but they are not by any means perfect that I feel a need to replace their older version. Maybe I am just finding excuses for myself not to buy more toys...

I agree to an extent. I still want the characters. Just do something like they did with the early 2000’s change up the designs into something that’s recognizable, yet new and interesting.

Now for me: I don’t understand the push for JG1 figures. They’re so obscure outside of, in my view, a small yet vocal portion of the fandom. I have no problem if you like it, but all the want of Star Saber and Deathsaurus is odd. I only knew about them because of members of the boards complaining about their absence. JG1 is obscure, and I would rather it remain a Takara initiative for when they want to dip into it. Also while Black Zarak is cool, I think it’s a waste.

Kingdom Primal is better than Kingdom Megatron. Don't get me wrong, I like Kingdom Megatron, but Primal has less gaps, everything tabs in solidly, and his joints are nice and tight--unlike Megatron. Primal also has less reported QC issues, aside from the paint chipping on the legs.

Not as obscure as you may think, because back in the early 1990s, there were bad dubs and toy reissues of Japanese Generation 1 in many parts of Asia.

Agree. Every time I transform Megatron, I'm afraid something is going to break. I don't feel that with Primal.
