Do we know for sure that only 12 minutes were cut? I certainly don't disbelieve you, just curious since there were all the rumors of 45 minutes being cut (those always sounded fishy to me).

Humorous and a tad frustrating when people don't understand what the concept of a director's cut even is.

The Snyder Cut happened because Snyder left the project halfway through and it was then handed off to another director. Then later on he actually had a chance to come back and try and finish the movie the way he wanted. Other reasons for a director's cut might be concerns about runtime that don't matter for home video releases, scenes that were deemed too violent/dark/etc for theaters, and so on.

But let's stress a fundamental aspect of making a movie: every film ever has cut footage. You always shoot more than you end up using. That's rule number 1. Editing a movie does not just involve slapping all your footage together in the correct order, you have to decide what fits with the flow of the story and what doesn't, what kills the mood and what enhances it.

Great example of a cut scene: Luke in the cave in Return of the Jedi before he goes to Jabba's palace. We see him putting together his lightsaber and turning it on. It's a finished scene, so it should be in the movie, right? No. That scene destroys the tension of wondering where Luke is, what his rescue plan is, and if he's even a good guy anymore, when you see him walking into the palace in all black and choking a guard. The surprise of seeing that green lightsaber turn on in the desert is gone. Just because that footage exists does not mean we needed a Lucas cut to wedge it into the film (though Lucas would make all kinds of changes anyway).

Bay's vision was not strangled by the studios for the film, and he didn't leave the project in the middle of it. For all intents and purposes, the released version IS the Bay Cut. If you hear footage was cut from a movie, that's almost universally a good thing, and just shoving every deleted scene back into a film will probably just make it worse by nullifying whatever discretion the editor had.

I'm a huge believer in enjoying movies, or not, based on what they are and not based on what could have been. I think whether people enjoy or don't enjoy The Last Knight, or the other Bay movies, they should enjoy them for what they are.

Personally, I enjoy The Last Knight as an apocalyptic, live action "Madman's Paradise," although I don't particularly enjoy it as a sequel to the other four movies.

And yes, it would have been cool to see that filmed scene with the Autobots driving toward the Decepticons, but that was cut for whatever reason, so it's whatever. It's not worth making a petition or anything.

Honestly just the international version released in the US would be cool. I've been debating rather or not to get The Last Knight Russian import or China import just to see if that's how that one youtuber got those extended scenes in such Blu Ray quality. Some of the scenes had Mandarin subtitles.
But I'm not sure how Blu Ray's work when it comes to things like Region free, if my Blu Ray would play a Russian or Chinese import disc.

The release of TLK we got is the Bay cut.

It's like people just don't know that Justice League had two directors, hence the Snyder cut. Bumblebee and TLK didn't have another director come in and change the film.

Given what they didn't cut out of this movie, I doubt there's anything worthwhile laying around on the cutting room floor.

I'm an older fan who watched my niece and 2 grand-nieces grow up with these characters. We all loved The Last Knight and absolutely hated Bumblebee. For a story presented as something that happened in real life Michael Bay got it right and Travis Knight didn't come close.
Hasbro dissolved their partnership with Chinese filmmakers at the same time TLK came out and to evenly divide the assets money could've and likely did change hands. There may have been a cash shortfall but I believe it was more due to the partnership dissolution than any significant loss by the film. It takes 2-1/2 times a films budget to make a profit. TLK cost $217 million to make meaning it needed $542 million to make any money. It may not have been a big profit but it wasn't a loss, either.

Lastly, several sites point to Lorenzo's interview right before BB was released regarding sequels. People think he said there was no TLK sequel but anyone who came to that conclusion needs to read the question again. He was not asked if TLK was getting a sequel - he was asked if the TLK sequel was going to pick up where The Last Knight left off and that is all his answer of "No" was responding to. All it meant was just what it said - the TLK sequel wouldn't pick up where TLK left off, not that there wouldn't be a sequel at all.

The Transformers films are the type that I think really need a theatrical release and wouldn't do well with an initial release to streaming platforms. We knew it was going to be some time before either Michael Bay returns (His Sony deal doesn't keep him exclusively to them) or Paramount finds someone who could make the type of film thst would fit with the first 5. With Covid-19 restrictions affecting the movie industry like everywhere else it may be longer than we would've expected or liked.

I'm sure not everyone will agree with me but please don't everyone jump to form a firing squad. It's just my opinion and not meant to disparage anyone.

It's very obvious Paramount told Bay to keep it under 2:30 (One of the biggest examples being the super short credits for the theatrical version), but TLK was a crap movie and any extra scenes would probably just make it worse.

I don't even know if any director could've fix the mess that was TLK during post. Also, I don't think Bay would even want to make anew edit of the film, he doesn't care.

Except the CEO of Viacom (Paramount's parent company) literally confirmed it was a loss: Viacom CEO Says Bumblebee Was Solidly Profitable While Last Knight Lost 100M

The question was: "Are you developing a script that picks up where The Last Knight left off?"
    And Lorenzo's answer: "No."

Source: 'Pet Sematary' Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura on Making Big Changes to Stephen King's Book and the Current Status of 'Snake Eyes,' 'McClane,' and 'Transformers' [Interview]

Plus, it doesn't matter what Lorenzo says. Hasbro doesn't care and they'll do whatever they like. A sequel to TLK isn't happening.
