That rumor was fake. I'm pretty sure it was just made up by someone on 4chan.

I wish scale charts weren't the be all, end all source when it comes to size, especially when even the show didn't go by them.

The difference between the G1 scale chart and the BW scale chart shown above is, the BW one isn't some official thing from the creators created during the initial creative process of the show and barely stuck to, it was by TFW board members who meticulously combed through the whole show to establish as-consistent-as-possible size relations between characters, acknowledging instances where scale was ignored for the sake of dramatic effect.

Here's the thread, and specifically the post with the most complete and updated scale chart for the whole show. The 33 pages before it show the work they did to get to that point.

What's been so satisfying about the project is that with each BW MP that's been released, we've been a pixel or two off at most, such is the accuracy to date.

So first was Bug Bite, now it's Road Ranger, I hope next is Treds and maybe Crasher from the Earth Mode Mirage.

It's kinda hard for me to disagree with scale inaccuracy in the cartoon when I'm a G1 fan, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I do, because the fact that it's an after-the-fact thing that aims to actually look at all the times characters were next to each other and establish an as-consistent-as-possible scale from that rather than a nominal thing established from the beginning of production of the show that the show potentially deviated from more often than not gives it more credence.

It was made with computer graphics, which means that the character models are their own thing. They should always be in proper scale with each other. The fact that there are times when they are not means something really weird was going on behind the scenes with those episodes. Meanwhile, the hand animated series had to be drawn by hand for every frame and so they were never going to be all that consistent.

Fair enough, but again.... the fact they went through and meticulously compared every scene that was even remotely feasible for determining relative sizing to be able to establish a workable scale in lieu of any sufficient official scale chart should make the result sufficiently credible. Seriously, look through the 30-odd pages of that thread. The fact that each BW MP releases' scaling seems to be nearly exactly in line with their scale chart in relation to the other BW MP releases should be evidence that users in that thread figured out the proper scaling of the show models.

Complete non-sequitur to everything being discussed atm (although, most of this thread's history has been discussing utterly random stuff, so I'm just going for it) but I just remembered that Apollux (I think) said TF Prime was being considered for next years line. I just wanna know; who's putting money on all of it getting cut and who's putting money on it getting made? I say the smart money's on it getting cut. The robot designs are too distinct from the other shows and it's too early for the nostalgia factor. Heck, I'm not even certain how widely known the series was and the toyline did under-preform.

Big ol' Prime stan here my time has come.

You'd be surprised it's very popular there are a lot of fans who are fans of just Prime and nothing else, and the toyline underperformed because it was bad, Hasbro hadn't yet figured out how to work within catastrophically reduced budgets.

However, I think that this line is Hasbro saying "Oh yeah? You say stuff other than G1 sell? Prove it" they're testing what they likely think are three of the most popular eras that haven't really been touched yet to see where Generations should move towards in the next few years.

As for these designs being weird, yeah they are, but they're not so weird as to look out of place imo.

Here's Airrachnid sharing scenes with G1 Starscream and Animated Blackarachnia, albeit stylized takes.

And here's Knockout sharing scenes with Starscream, Windblade, Moonracer and Rattrap with the same caveat.

Amusingly both beloved new characters with horrendous toys in need of updates.

I'm still curious whether Hasbro will do the Prime figures straight-up in Prime's style, or if they'll tweak them a bit to fit in more with the G1/BW figures. Particularly in the face, since as you've shown their robot bodies aren't too dissonant from G1-ish stuff to be out of place.

I know there's still several characters (Prime-original, Animated-original, Movie-original, or IDW/etc.-original like Windblade) that I'd love to see given more wholly G1-style reimaginings (less so in the "Guido Guidi redecoing an existing G1 character model" sense, though I do like those of his, and more in the "imagining what this character would look like if designed as a Diaclone or Microchange toy by Takara, and then imagining how Shōhei Kohara and/or Floro Dery would've interpreted that into an animation model, and then making the Generations toy of it some mix of the two like WFC has kinda been doing, like pre-cartoon-accuracy MP before it" sense), but I'd definitely be fine with a more direct show-accurate-ish update for the Prime characters.

They didn't G1-ify Beast Wars so I don't see why they would.

    These

    look less different from these

    than these do

As for Soundwave, Arcee, Breakdown and Starscream we're also getting Armada.

In Armada Sideswipe and Wheeljack, who is a Decepticon, look like this

and Blurr looks like this and speaks at regular speed.

I don't see why there isn't room for both over time, but personally i don't think making these designs more blocky and 80sish would work. And the two examples of it that I've seen for Prime were incredibly cursed.

    Yuck.

But at least it worked out for IDW Hotshot.
