To note I did say ‘most’ companies though, not all, and that’s been my experience having bought from most 3P companies and official. I’d be happier spending £200 on a figure I find to be awesome than spending less and getting a lesser experience. Cang Toys are great, loved Ferocious and Landbull but their Divebomb dropped at £150 here in the UK, which for me personally wasn’t worth it.

It’s all subjective, buy and spend on what makes you happy!

I’m pretty sure there’s two types of value, intrinsic and subjective. Subjective is an opinion, like Quietus is worth $xxx to you, but intrinsic value is simply the materials, build, paint, sculpt, and hardware which is objective and not opinion.

Hence why some of us are floored when the pricing is literally 5-10 dollars different or the same as getting a DX9 Omega Supreme which you can objectively say is a hell of a lot more toy for your dollar.

For me I’d much rather get the reissue of Eligos, because they’re reissuing with corrected paint, mould improvements, extra head sculpts, and it’s 170 CAD less than buying the Quietus re-release. I like Fans Toys, but the figures aren’t THAT good.

Edit: take this from someone who bought more Fans Toys figures last year than any other 3rd party brand, Their Beachcomber, Warpath, Brawn, Astrotrain and Sixshot.

 

What's hard to value is the creative portion. People focus on plastics, hardware, etc, but that's just the final outcome of the creative process. It takes time to design these things. And time is money.

 

If only we could pay them in experience and exposure!

 

Totally agree, I did say to start with the price is a sting, and it is, but that's not limited to FT.

I'm not defending them at any cost by the way, some of their figures I find to be pretty rubbish, like Hoodlum for example!

My original post was a probably a bit goofy, because I like to be light-hearted, but I was trying to get across the fact that to get a really sought after figure at nearly half the cost of the ridiculous aftermarket prices here in the UK was for me really great.

 

Quick question, did Quietus T come with the IDW parts as well or no?

Have to say envious you got Sixshot! That's next on my list. I stopped collecting in 2016/17, came back in 2019, and unfortunately wasn't quick enough to catch on to how scarce and pricey some of these would get. There were loads of Hydras kicking around on ebay last year, and now none!

Yeah that was weird!! I got mine on Ali Express. I was toying between FT and DX9 and I went with FT because I got a real good price. I’ve heard great things about Hanzo and I think it’s still available on Ali Express if you need a quality sixshot!

 

A day and a half late for me, and unfortunately, that means nothing but "sold out" everywhere I look these days. Bummer  

 

Is there gonna be another window to buy these things when they get released, or are the re-releases preorder only? I held off, because the price hike is horseshit, but I'm not 100%. I'd actually rather buy it off a person if they end up re-selling it close to cost, than contribute further to FT's actions.

 

I hope x transbots keeps rereleasing eligos and other companies to make their own version so ft keeps reissuing quietus

 

Well if you don’t like this price hike, you’re really not gonna like the extra $50 or more it’s gonna cost when it releases. The longer you wait, the more it costs, and none of that money will be going to FT.

 

Bit of a moot point at this juncture. Those of that were lucky enough to get a Golden Ticket placed a pre-order. If suppliers can fill at the same level they sold POs or not? That's in the Lord's hands now. On a serious note, has Dalianjj ever explained why they create this kind of artificial scarcity?

 

The usual places will get the amount they were allotted, even if it’s in 2 shipments. There hasn’t been any issue with North American retailers getting what they offer up for pre-order. There was some issues with Taobao and other Chinese retailers like ShowZ and Baba not always being able to get what they thought for quick re-releases but you don’t need to worry about BBTS, they’ll just be the last one to actually get their shipment.

DalianJJ said it all comes down to the factory time they can secure, and they produce things that can fit into whatever time they have available.

 

Yeah I know, I don't even care that much about paying the money, just the principle of a 100 dollar increase for the same product from 2018 to 2020, really didn't sit right with me. re-sellers are what they are, but when it is the actual maker or retailer... It's tough to support. Then again its a great figure and I want it, lol.
