I’m ready to find this in the wild...

 

I sincerely hope there won’t be another Ultra Magnus toy for years after Kingdom. After the Siege, Netflix and Kingdom versions in last 2 years, that’s enough. Ultra Magnus isn’t one of the main or core characters of Transformers for the general popular like how every new Transformers line has to have an Optimus Prime and Bumblebee or Megatron and Starscream. Leave a new Ultra Magnus for years later and leave the available slot of other deserving characters who haven’t had an update in a while.

 

Just found this guy in the wild and I like it but it does need some things addressed. Hope a third party is watching this.

I'd like to see some new shoulder pieces molded with the original mushroom peg from the Siege figure at the top that plugged into the heels in vehicle mode but with a way to telescopically extend so they plug into the heels and fill in that gap they leave. If they do the blue and white sections in separate color molded pieces that would be great!

I also want to see a transforming rifle so it gets smaller for the core robot mode.

I want to see if someone can come up with new forearms that can transform a bit to hide the hands better since they are so visible in vehicle mode.

That's most of what I'd like to see really for this iteration of this figure.

Anyone know if "Dr Wu" is going to release an upgrade kit for the kingdom version? Didn't get siege magnus but the Dr Wu kit looked really good there

 

Terribly sorry sir, but I can't help with just a touch of poaching, lol.

Only thing I've seen so far is a reissue of the DNA Designs kit with new legs and an axe and hammer colored to match this figure. All unnecessary as far as I can see and doesn't address the things I'd love to see done.

 

I MAY get the dna rerelease.

 

Thunderclash is one of the last few G1 figures that I really want. Hopefully we'll get one in the next few years.

Why did the Kingdom version replace all the silver with Gunmetal? It clashes way too much with the white.

 

I would buy an upgrade kit that makes the car carrier portion look more accurate and be able to carry a car...

 

Do the leg extenders interfere with the Alt mode? ....since it's longer?

I agree, we're set. Though I love this mold, so I have no complaints about there being both a redeco and a retool of it. I own all 3. If they make a Delta Magnus Generations Selects redeco of Earth Magnus I'll be all over that like spots on Cheetor.

The one that's being over-fucking-done is that Siege Megatron mold. I got WFC-S12 and I got the Metallic Megatron Netflix pack because wow! that redeco is hot AND it comes with amazing redecos of my 2 favorite Battle Masters. But then there's what, 2 or 3 Generations Selects redecos of it, a 35th Anniversary, and yet another Netflix pack of it coming? Yipe. I don't like the mold that much. It's a so-so tank and the head socket and hands are total garbage.

It looks like they have a mechanism to move them out of the way when he's in his alt mode.



If you compare the dark grey rectangle on Magnus's left knee in the right-hand picture with the matching spot above the left-hand wheel in the left-hand image, it seems that the extender panel detaches and folds back on a peg track (also visible in the left hand image)

 

there is a review of that same upgrade in blue for galaxy optimus, i think emgo made a review of it

 

Now I have him in hand this Magnus isn't as bad as I feard but it's convince me he needs to be done again at the commander price point so he can actually carry other TFs in his trailer.

 

It's honestly not a great kit. I disliked it so much by the end of it, that I restored him to stock configuration because of how cruddy it is.

It works well for the Siege version, in vehicle mode, because it hides the horrible gap in the front of the cab, but it lacks stability.
It's terrible during transformation and in robot mode because it's just terribly assembled. (The design isn't horrible, though.)
When transforming, the side panels of the trailer don't want to detach from the new gray hook pieces (look like they replicate the Hasbro pieces down to the last detail, but do not in reality) and takes a lot of gut-wrenching force to pop 'em off. Guess what happens? Those gray connectors come away from the legs with the panels, each and every time. Why? They just tabbed all of the leg pieces together and nothing is pinned, screwed, or glued in place. You end up putting their legs back together each and every time you transform him. The only screws/pins are for the new wheels and panels that help the leg "extend".
The panel does move out of the way for alt mode and the legs compress (think CW Deluxes). In robot mode and vehicle mode, the legs are not obtrusive, so there's no worry there. It's just the construction that's a big problem.

In robot mode, for whatever reason... Those connector tabs will not keep his leg shells on to save a life. One tap and they'll come flying off, yet in vehicle mode, you can't get the trailer to detach from 'em. It's so inconsistent and annoying.

I hope the set they make for Kingdom is better assembled and actually solid, because the Siege version SUCKS. I like DNA's stuff, I've bought a sizeable number of their products, so this hate is coming out of being purely frustrated and angry at them dropping the ball and wasting nearly $30.00 of my money on a kit that doesn't work.

The accessories are nice, but feel completely unnecessary and aren't really G1-centric, so you're basically taking a G1 character and making him into an Animated/Prime homage. (The hammer.)
