They're extremely nice. Everything fits together very well and is tight. Sword is heavy for the wrists and thumbs at times, but other than that they are amazing.

I guess no one's seen this, but PrimeVsPrime has a review for these guys:

Urgh. I knew SS86 Grimlock and the future SS Dinobots would make the POTP Dinobots irrelevant, but I’ll be damned if I didn’t admit this review makes them look really tempting. Doesn't help that I haven't been able to finish Piranacon due to real life...

Though it begs the question: how does SS86 Grimlock look with one of Selects Volcanicus' big honking magma-swords?

I put up a review in the, um, reviews section.

I have to eat my words now about CW/POTP Combiners being all inherently unstable. Takara finally fixed it with GS Volcanicus. The joints across the board, even the combiner pegs, are all much tighter and actually work. Much better than the Seacon releases (both of them). The tabs that didn't fit before now actually work. Volcanicus went from being the most unstable Combiner to the only actually stable one. The only fail is the thumbs on the combiner hands, which are the same as the Seacons. The thumbs cannot lock into place securely (just one tiny tab) and handle the weight and length of the combiner sword, so the thumb flops in either direction. There is definitely no need for 3p feet, although 3p hands may still be needed if planning to pose with swords that are not in upright position.

Posted yesterday in the POTP SS86 thread. Not great. The claws again do not provide adequate clearance. The handle tip barely reaches, though, when trying to avoid the claws.

Took me a while, but I found this in the SS86 Appreciation thread:

    That's disappointing to hear...:(

I mean, SS86 *can* hold them, but barely. Still, there's nothing stopping a third-party company from making a sword set for SS86 Grimlock with one of them being his Fall of Cybertron sword, right?

Yeah, I keep getting Kingdom and SS86 threads mixed up, oops. My bad.

The claws are going to be restricting no matter what. The original FoC sword would be too small for scale.

Let me dredge up some other older posts I did:

This is the Perfect Effect combiner FoC-style sword that was only available in their Volcanicus kit (getting another production run apparently). Same issue as the Volcanicus swords with tip of handle reaching the hands. This is bigger than the Volcanicus sword.

Although not true FoC style, I do like the Perfect Effect "Berserker" sword. This at least captures the Buster Sword part of the look. It also folds up into an, um, "axe". This comes with various PE figures in different colors. There used to be a stand-alone set of 2 swords (with mini gorillas that transform into additional handles) but out of print.

Last one and we can stop bringing up SS86 Grimlock:

These images really highlight how much more complete SS86 Grimlock is with a sword. :D

They look great, but between the OSKOs and the SS86 versions, there's just no place for this set in my collection. It definitely feels like a "day late and a dollar short" type of thing.

Has there been any pics of this Volcanicus with some of the PotP upgrades?

They'd be downgrades. Color / deco mismatch and de-stabilizing the figure. Takara Volcanicus is actually "stable" in terms of joints.

The only 3p parts that may be of benefit are the hands as the Seacon mold hands' thumbs are too weak to handle the large swords at various angles. There is a way to stabilize the thumbs but would require a custom adapter to plug into the inner hand ports and hold onto the sword.

Perfect PC-23 is getting a re-release but definitely do NOT get it for Takara Volcanicus.

I've always regretted not getting the Dreamwave kit. Liked how it looked and that you didn't have to breakdown Grimlock to use ot.

If anything, the only accessories you may want to have are 1) two POTP hands to add more bulk to the torso ("arm pits" have 5mm ports) and 2) POTP Prime Master / Matrix / Enigma to plug into Grimlock's mouth in torso mode. I'm going to try to make a custom adapter for the inner hand ports to prevent the sword from flopping (which is like the only significant issue unique to Takara version), but if you angle it just right, it may stay ok.

In this example, added 2 POTP Dinobot hands to the torso and OP's Matrix to Grimlock's head. The Seacon mold thumb is barely hanging on.

We chose PE kit over that one due to the combiner sword alone.

Split up my Volcanicus kits back to their own brands. Fits nice, not too tight for the TDW fists on TT Volcanicus.
