I like G1 Scourge cause of his cool pink claws.
Funny thing is, I also think RiD Scourge is one of the best Nemesis Primes; I just don't like the fact that he uses someone else's name.

I kinda like the big dick energy Galvatron doesn't give a damn about mobility or disguising himself, and has his alt. mode focus on nothing but having as much fire power as possible. To me that just radiates big dick energy.

The G1 flying soapdish may have come first, but it's RiD's Scourge's name. He ain't no "Nemesis Prime"!

And here's an excerpt from my comic on the matter:

I mean, Galvatron is an idiot, so the useless alt mode does fit...

Less of an unpopular opinion (I think) and more of what I would like to see, is that smokestacks should become the Transformers weapons more often.

I said this in the Random Transformers Thoughts thread, but it applies here.

"Instead of calling characters that share almost nothing of their original version "nameslaps," why don't we just say they share a name? If a character is called Sam in a Transformers series, and there's another character called Sam in another series that looks nothing alike, no one is going to call that a nameslap. It's perfectly logical the same thing should apply to Cybertronians. There can be multiple Ratchets, multiple Whirls, each Transformer doesn't need to be the sole owner of that name."

It can be especially nice on Optimus when there's a Hot Rod. It's a nice way to subtly give them a shared design cue.

I like some of the ideas and world building he has, but I don't like most of his 21st century dialogue.

So I guess for me he's like the Transformers equivalent of George Lucas. Like most of his work before I was born, but only really like his concepts and ideas rather than the execution after that (mostly).

I don't have any problem with him as a person (well, "Prime's Rib" is embarrassing, but I'm not gonna judge him for something he wrote in the 80s). And as a creative he introduced a ton of great concepts to Transformers.

The fandom he has here though is awful and embodies the worst of the Transformers fanbase.
I think Beast Wars has really good facial animation. Other animation (Like walking) is rough as hell, but the lip flaps and expressions hold up. It's part of what makes the characters so enjoyable.

The actual models and textures? Oof. Those are pretty bad.

My main problem with Furman is the Arcee stuff (big surprise, I know). "Prime's Rib" is... sigh... "embarrassing" really is the best word for it. I use the term "cringe" very sparingly because I despise how it's used 99% of the time, but god that story is cringe to the max. I couldn't believe that that was the canon introduction of Arcee in the Marvel comics; it came across as a juvenile parody that I'd expect from a teenage incel, not one of Transformers' most prolific and respected writers.
And I have a multitude of problems with Spotlight: Arcee that I probably don't have time to get into in full. "Prime's Rib" is barely excusable due to the time period it was written in, but Furman pulling the same shit on Arcee almost 20 years later and adding a heaping helping of transphobia on top does not endear him to me at all. I've read all about his beef with Mairghread Scott over the story and his insistence that he didn't set out to be offensive to women and transgender people, but the fact of the matter is that it ended up being offensive and he seems to refuse to acknowledge or apologize for that. His assertion that Transformers don't have gender is... I'll be gentle and say incorrect. They've had gender for over 30 years - they use gendered pronouns, they call each other "brother", "males" are big and chunky and "females" are lithe and slim - and he's kidding himself if he believes otherwise. I admire his attempt to write Transformers without gender in Marvel, but he needed to go further than just having them say "we don't have gender/males or females". I know what other justifications he's made for Spotlight: Arcee that draw on other information from the IDW continuity, but what we see happening on the page, without any other background context, is Arcee going through the Transformer equivalent of a male-to-female sex change operation and becoming a violent murderer as a result. The gist of the message he's sending is that being female is abnormal and that being trans is unhealthy. Furman can pull out all the subtext and retcons he wants, but the story he wrote then and there is inherently sexist and transphobic, and it astounds me that he thinks it's the fans' fault that it caused such an uproar instead of considering the fact that he wrote something actually harmful. And, like, I get it. He's an old white British dude who lives in a famously conservative country. But I really think that he should have known better. He may have not set out to be sexist, but I find it really telling that he felt the need to make an "explanation" for female Transformers when he had no problem with male ones.
Shit, this got long. TL;DR: Arcee is a trans lesbian queen and deserved better than what Furman gave her. Transformers has evolved past the need for Simon Furman.
I agree 100%. The animation itself starts out ok and improves drastically throughout the series, but the textures are always kind of rough.

Actually, I think his Marvel writing is great most of the time (though I wasn't keen on Arcee being built after some women complained), but yeah, his IDW stuff was... eh (RG1 was fine, though, at least IMO).

Plus, he did write some personal favorite stories of mine (Stargazing, Space Pirates and the Matrix Quest saga) and he really made me enjoy characters like Bludgeon and Nightbeat quite a lot, so that I enjoyed. But yeah, I think in IDW, his writing was just eh).

I didn't like Prime's Rib either, but honestly, Furman wrote Arcee well in the Marvel stuff, Space Pirates in particular is a very good story with Arcee and Rodimus, and I really enjoyed them both in that one. It's IDW Arcee that he screwed up 100%.

Yeah, I have very few problems with the rest of Furman's writing in Marvel. "Prime's Rib" is just really fucking stupid :lol

Agreed. It's just... odd. But at least it's giggle-inducing (unlike Spotlight Arcee, which was just irritating).

My only gripe with some of Furman's writing was doing any dark universe stuff in his IDW -ations runs. Otherwise he could've essentially crafted a good straightforward secret wars type of story for IDW. But that kind of gripe leans towards my general dislikage of any dark universe stuff, since it always comes off contrived, IMO.
