Download STL file Transformers SS86 Grimlock Forearm Flip Cover V1 • 3D print object ・ Cults Someone figured out a way to do attached arm covers for Grimlock. I like the general idea but I think it could be streamlined and simplified by making it one piece that pivots on the screw, the folding joint seems like needless complication when it could just rotate instead. I'll try a hybrid design of mine that does just that.
Getting there slowly. Not to happy with the knee joints atm, and he's too small for any decent leg/hip movement..but then I had the same trouble with my Rumble. Also, couldnt stand how the origional toy had the cassette holes part of the forarm. Kinda went a bit parts-forming on those, so ypu cam pill those bits out and Plug them into the back. Jist not enough room in that tiny body to get them to swing or slide out of the way...aybe I should of started with Steeljaw? Lol ..
Ok, So I've gotten around 90% of the overall detail stuff done, cleaned up the transformation sequence as much as possible. There's only 2 differences between the original toys transformation and my takes. Just finished working on the head sculpt, and I think its a nice blend of the origional cartoon and they toy. What you all think?
Just an odd thought. Stop me if it wouldn't work. But the (God it's been so long since I even held a real cassette) teeth holder for the spools(?) any way that could just be foldable onto the arms as part of the gauntlets or something? I know they would be great as backpacks. I'm just thinking outside the box here. Or made into blasters? I dunno. Just thinking other potential things. Wouldn't even need metal pegs or anything. Just a simple to do hinge like the doors on my new Bumblebee from AoE. So if too much force was used would just pop off. (I'm crazy, I know.)
Honestly, I spent about 6 hours trying to get those bits on a hinge. Ive tried to make them become the hands, but that looked terrible. Theres not enough room in there to have them turn into a blaster either. I could of stayed 100% true to the toy and have them attached to the wrist, but as a kid and even know, it just makes my head hurt. A backpack was the best I could come up with.
That's cool. Was an errant thought. Even as a backpack that's sweet man. Could it be used to house the blasters I could have swore I saw in at least 1 episode of G1? I never saw them fire. Don't even know if they were guns. Could have been radio antenna for all I knew. I was young when G1 started. Lol.
You could make them swivel back on hinges that run parallel to the midsection. They dont need to be big chunks, just thin plates since they are only for tape mode. It would create open space in tape mode but you could probably make a couple hinged covers with the other side of them that fold up on his back. Shape them like an L and hinge them from the short part of the L on the back of his midsection so they fold back and create a box on his lower back. Know what I mean? Or just do what the 3rd party ones do and make them a plate that is split in half with half folding back into the torso and the other half hinged on his foot or whatever part touches there in tape mode. Main point being if you treat them like cover plates that are just for show rather than big solid chunks that need to be dealt with, options open up. You could even slide them into the torso if there's nothing else mechanical going on in there between them.

It's all good fella. Rewind was only in a couple of episodes late in the 3rd series, and only briefly in the animated movie. Think my favourite scene, was him riding on the back of Steeljaw lol. He carried a radio emitter in one episode, and I think it was the one where Galvatron wass trying to steal energy from a pyramid, or use it as a weapon of some sort...been years since I last saw it myself, anyways, It was a radio emitter on Rewinds back, and his blaster was a tiny thing lol. On the toy, his blasters plugged into the cassette holes that where on top of his forearm, not in his hands, again something that as a kid gave me a headache lol. I am however toying with the idea of making those bits combine with his guns in some way. As previously stated, I tried lol. Having them slide into the torso was the very 1st thing I tried, followed by pivots, hinges, sliding pivots, L-plates, flat plates, and everything in between. There just isn't the space or clearance.
Did anyone make/design arm-filler parts for TLK Voyager Megatron? He's my favourite movie Megatron (DOTM Leader for second) but those gaps in his arm are really distracting. Or does anyone know a decent substitute I can use (don't care if parts-forming)?
