I’m pretty picky about visuals these days too to be fair. I’m a big Clone Wars fan so tried to watch Rebels when that started but just found the slight change in style to be so off putting that I quit after ten minutes. The new characters and overall tone didn’t help either but, knowing now that the story gets pretty decent and with all the tie ins to new SW I’ll try to get over myself and power through.

Man, I really need some news on this Tarantulas to keep me on topic. The silence surrounding it would seem to point towards it being a custom. That custom gen scaled Dinobot ended up getting a 4P production so there’s always a chance we’ll get ahold of it somehow. At the very least this will show TransArt how ready and willing we all are for a TM Tarantulas and that they need to provide all those same accessories to not disappoint us.

I have given up being picky about artstyle myself, but I know what you mean. The hardest one for me personally was the late 2000's style. Transformers animated and Spectacular Spider-Man are two incredible shows that took me too long to get into because I hated the art style at first. But once I gave it a chance it grew on me and I was fine. It was at that point I decided to never judge art style again, and just give myself a chance to learn to appreciate it.

Rebels is VERY good though. It keeps getting better and better as it goes. The tone at the start is definitely a bit "kiddish" and clunky, but it improves drastically as it goes.

    Even Pixar movies?

All TF shows exist to sell figures. Doesn't stop some from being higher quality than others.

G1 is pretty offensive in that way - MULTIPLE new characters get added in some episodes with ABSOLUTELY no explanation. It's super jarring. The only thing that redeems G1 for me is the music, animation, and world building.

BW really does it for me, as a show. Good characters, good stories (usually...), and everything feels so cohesive.

Some of the more modern shows have felt a bit uninspired to me, but I haven't checked out the Netflix shows.

In my opinion, the netflix shows are on par with Transformers: Prime. Not the worst in the franchise... not the best. Though for nearly opposite reasons. Transformers: Prime had some fantastic characters, designs, and voice actors, but in terms of story it kinda stalled. Every episode felt so samey. Status quo was so hard and felt like it really got in the way.

The Netflix shows have some pretty bland characters, and terrible pacing. Like, some parts feel way too long and talky, then actual events happen and they go super quick and things change real suddenly.

However, I feel like there is actual motion in the plot with some decent world-buliding and ideas. It's alright.

Both of the shows are below Beast Machines for me, so take that how you wish.

Oh wow. A new nice Transmetal Tarantulas, my most wanted TF toy in the world.
    Well that's very exciting.
    Can't wait!

I'd rate the shows (I've seen) as such:
    Beast Wars
    TF Animated
    TF Prime
    Beast Machines
    G1 Season 4
    Netflix show
The rest of G1 Toon (all US seasons only). Pretty much tied with Netflix given that atleast the G1 set everything up and had it's merits within the silly ridiculousness of it.

Netflix show feels empty af. Nothing compelling about any of it imo. I respect and partially agree with the above post on it having more actual story, but I think it is presented in such a bland way, it might as well be a wall of text on the back of a toy box... cool, but ultimately lacking any real impact.
That said, I do appreciate it for a certain side of world building... I think it would have been better as a comic than a show as I think some more resources could have been used to remove things like reused char models and such to make simpler background robots that looked unique.

Oh right the actual topic of this thread.
Bought so long as it fully exceeds the TM version, which has it's faults but is also very good esp given the time it came out at.

Your order is preeety close to mine. Except I'd do

    Beast Wars
    TF Animated
    Beast Machines
    TF Prime
    Netflix Show
    G1

Everything else. G1 gets credit for the same reason you stated, but I'm not actually huge on it overall.

You know, I used to love beast machines, and I think the first story arc about getting their ability to transform back was amazing! It was everything after that I felt fell flat on rewatch some years ago, but perhaps I should rewatch it again.

You mean the Maximals constantly running from fights, Rattrap totally betraying his Beast Wars character and ending up with the worst bot design along with the show being totally devoid of humor. I wanted to like it so much but the rewatch as an adult became rough.

Haha, I completely derailed this thread on accident :hijacked:

Tarantulas was a great character in BW. The tripredicus council was so shadowy and hidden and Tarantulus was our only idea of what Predacon orthodoxy was like (as Megatron was a rogue). I really want him to have a great MP figure made.

This figure looks alright but the the chest looks gappy and the arms are misproportioned. The legs look like they could be great.

Since TA said this isn't them... any idea who it is?

All of those things (except Rattrap's awful design) totally make sense within the narrative.

The chest is rather pointy and gappy. Gappy could be just that it is still in the design stage, but the pointyness is a little much. Rest looks good imo.

[shameless plug]Oh!? Are we talking about how great Beast Wars is and how average the War For Cybertron shows are? Well you might like my podcast AARGH! MY OPTICS! then. Myself and my good friend Virtual Dave have had a good old discussion/review of both WFC shows and the next episode (due out soon!) is dedicated to Beast Wars![/shameless plug]

    Soooooooooo

Tarrantulus is definitely not TransArt. No one is taking credit for it. Starting to look more and more like a custom? Maybe 3d printed?

Where was this said? I couldn't find a FB page for them, and their Weibo didn't say anything about that I could see. I definitely could have missed something.

I don't think it's 3d printed - it doesn't have any of the obvious tell-tell signs. Everything looks smooth. I'm assuming it's resin but that's me just guessing.

My guess is that it's either a new 3P company, or more likely, an existing 3P company (potentially even TA) but just under a new name as they try to avoid Hasbro's increased legal pressure.

Any average Joe can print in high quality resin now so it could still very likely be a fan made custom.
I think the gap is just that it hasn’t been pushed down. It’ll no doubt clip to the lower torso but maybe they don’t want to risk it due to the material it’s printed in. Probably still needs to be cast and molded in plastic.

Yeah I think your on the money there. I hope that when tabbed in, that point is oriented more downwards.

More pics. No info. Totally a custom.

The spider leg joint that attaches to the body looks like it’s begging to snap at the slightest twist.
