Remember the Mosaics from like 10-15 years ago (ish)? I only read a few at the time, contributed to one, and that was about it. I've now found myself starting to go through them again, listed here: Transformers-Mosaic User Profile | DeviantArt

Or for a list of just Autobots/Maximals by character appearance: Transformers: Mosaic list - Autobots/Maximals by Jeysie on DeviantArt

I'm not aware of a list for Decepticons/Predacons.

What were your favourites back in the day? Any you'd recommend or worked on yourself and want to share?

For those who don't know, they were a fan project consisting of single-page comic stories, with the occasional professional contribution, and some even saw print at the time.

Mosaics were great, looked forward to reading them each week (I think they were weekly). Some I distinctly remember, like this insanely well-done monochromatic comic featuring Bludgeon. Another one showed why Sunstreaker chose to be an Autobot, despite it not being his first choice. And one that really stuck with me all these years showed how Optimus knew he was going to die at the hands of Megatron in the ‘86 movie; hence the “One shall fall.” line.

I had wanted to contribute as I had the artistic capability; however, I went back to school in 07-08ish, and had very little time to draw. The idea I had was the Season 3 minibots (Pipes, Tailgate, etc.) trying to hide from a hate-plague infected Rodimus as he picks them off one by one.

Mosaics were really good stuff at a time when the fandom was surging, and a lot of new people were just learning about Transformers.

    Indeed I do.

They were pretty rad overall and I liked the idea quite a bit. Sure there were times the art wasn't exactly stellar but that kind of adds to its charm. To this day one of my favorites was "Shogun"

I used to be obsessed with them. It was such a great community and it's disappointing something similar hasn't been replicated in the same way.

The one with Punch/Counterpunch was my favorite. I thought that could of been an amazing storyline.

I wrote and drew a few of these. Most of the artists were far better than I am, but I did enjoy contributing a bit here and there.

I wrote and coloured that one! Prime Factors - Part One by Transformers-Mosaic on DeviantArt Thank you so much! I loved working on the Mosaics and all the amazing collaborators I got to work with. When I was planning out the 22 page Mosaic War Journal I was looking for someone to do a couple of pages and stumbled across an unknown artist called Casey Coller! Some of my best friends I met through Mosaics!

I was lucky enough to have worked with you, on what I believe was the piece to get you professionally noticed? Feel free to correct me on that if needed. Either way, I was thrilled to see you soon after joining the pro ranks, where you belonged!

My favourite was the flash forward Furman did with Hunter. I remember Chris Ryall saying in the comments that it wasn’t canon and people getting pissed off with him. Definitely not canon after AHM.

I can’t remember many others, besides a few about Ironhide being Dion.

There was one that dealt with an origin for Nemesis Prime that stood out for me.

I'd like Mosaics to return to the comics, but they would expand upon a character or scene from the issue its in.

I loved this project back in the day. I was kinda sad when it died, not angry or anything, just kinda like "well, that was cool while it lasted".

I kinda contributed, kinda. I did the line art for a Beast Wars one, I wrote two and one of which I wanted to illustrate my self.

The Beast Wars one was stuck in limbo, the colourist never answered, after almost a year of asking by the writer and me the colourist sent us a Marvel TF style coloured hack job, that erased most of the detail I put into the piece and told us to take it or leave it because he's not going to do any better.

The ones I wrote were also never published, but it was partially down to a mix up and my own hubris. The one I wanted to illustrate (The Battle between Optimus and Megatron, from Megatron's perspective), and started to, was given to an artist to do, the final page was sent to me for a approval and I complained because that was the one I was working on. The stupid thing is, I was way overdoing it, treating it as my "magnum" opus. So each pannel was being done as an A4 piece of paper with loads of detail.

The second one was about Optimus Prime dying, joining the Matrix while giving it to Magnus, thinking about it now it's cringy as fuck, and probably the reason nobody wanted to draw it.

Then real life came in the way and I lost track, I was in the process of redoing the Beast Wars one because I promised, but then the project died.

Should have just let them publish the Megatron one as it was, the art was fine, but I was too arrogant, because I wanted to show off with an Optimus Prime that had more details and joints than MP Prime on a page where in final published form it would have looked ugly and messy. XD

I only found out about the whole Mosaics project right towards the end which was a shame, but I managed to sneak in with a little piece called CON.

I wrote and drew two, wrote one for another artist to draw, and drew another writer's script. It was fun, and I really wanted to do more and be more involved. Some of the work people were putting out was very fine quality. I also wrote and drew a page of the combined comic that a whole bunch of Mosaic-ers did, which was a story about First Aid creating Superion from the downed aerialbots.

I ended up feeling slightly put off, though, by the fact that there was no limit on the number of scripts you could submit, and two or three writers were submitting a huge number of very thinly conceived scripts, grabbing all the characters and available artists. I felt like a bit of editorial leadership was called for there - but I can't really complain, seeing as Shaun and Josh put in so much work on the series.
