Not to be a Cassandra but many of us yearned for a toy store that focused on the fundamentals of niche/hobby retail and that market, while impacted, is much stronger under COVID than vaporware experience economy/Instagram corporate art installation BS.

I just hate the idea that now they are trying to paint TRU as a victim of the pandemic. I never got to check out one of the "new" TRU locations and was never really interested in it anyhow, but to me they weren't the REAL Toys R Us. That company died to me in 2018. It is nice to fantasize that they could make a miracle comeback in the U.S. but it will probably remain just a fantasy. I wonder if they are on the stockmarket somewhere, it would be funny to see them caught up in something like the Gamestop stock has experienced in the last couple weeks.

I live in Houston, TX i visited the Galleria location twice. Once about a month or so after it opened, And once more a year later to see if there was any improvement.

As stated before, it was focused more on interactive playground type experiences and had a smaller variety of toy brands than the toy selection of a small town Walmart.
Sure, big players like nerf, Lego, barbie, and hot wheels were there. But there was virtually no action figures. I saw some dbz and marvel legends, maybe some of the younger skewed star wars stuff. No transformers. Not even cyberverse.

And if a toy store doesn't sell transformers, I have no reason to go.

Good riddance. Maybe someone else will buy the brand now. Someone who actually knows what they're doing

Maybe GameStop could buy the brand, close superfluous stores, and refit locations into retail ThinkGeeks with the TRU branding?

I live 20 minutes from the one in the mall here in NJ.

I went when first opened and was appalled by what they were trying to pass off.

I could care less about what data and focus groups say kids want ....this was a failure waiting to happen. It was more or less a romper room time out room with bouncy crap, slides, and the like, with the surrounding walls showcasing literally nothing.

I walked in, felt bad about everything, and walked out, never to return.

Appalling is when someone spits their gum on the sidewalk right where you’re about to step. Not a legacy toy store reopening in a disappointing way.

Good luck - this is what take three or four now on a business that failed? Let it rest in peace. All that will come from this are tears & sadness as people get angry with their expectations not being met..AGAIN

And whats worse, when they open, ppl will complain why its not near them...just look to the world-wide graveyard of malls THAT is why its not near you....changing consumer habits.

Malls are weird. One just utterly tailspins while another on the other side of town thrives like nobody's business.

i cannot say i understand the appeal of tru returning from an adult standpoint. at best it's an awesome place for kids, at worst it was an out of the way stop for exclusives. i loathed tru exclusives because i don't have kids so instead of buying toys at [big box retailer] with the other shit i had to buy i had to go to a whole other store.

Yeah there's no preventing it... but the brand also matters. I doubt Lego suffers the same supply/disto issues as Transformers.
