I do like the idea of character growth on their own, but I didn't mind Hot Rod becoming Rodimus Prime by the Matrix either. Sure it was a little derivative of He-Man or Thor, but the idea that the unsuspecting, seemingly average guy can become this big powerhouse hero is appealing.

I also liked it when Scourge got the Matrix and he became almost a monster in form, showing again that after the power of the Matrix was activated it was not just some piece of Autobot jewelry but rather an artifact not to be trifled with, along with the rest of that episode's theme that Transformers aren't solely just a Prime by chance, Hot Rod is the chosen one to light our darkest hour for a reason.

 

Also, the Matrix may have been reacting to Scourge being a creation of Unicron.

I’m curious...so Rodimus will be bigger than Earthrise Optimus?

Yeah, I was kinda disappointed that Rodimus was given the shaft in the Headmasters cartoon too. If I recall the G1 Transformers UK comics made him a decent character.

We never got to see how Rodimus develop into his full potential. The only glimpse we got was his battle with Galvatron in the animated movie.

Interesting theory but IMO I always felt that the movie writers were going for the “King Arthur” symbolism.

Hot Rod was the only transformer “worthy” to wield the power of the Matrix.

Optimus and the prior leaders were only “protecting” the Matrix until the chosen one appeared.

But of course once we got back into season 3 (inconsistent writing) and the outrage of Optimus’ death, the exclusiveness of the Matrix was thrown outside the window.

 

Gah!!!! I don’t wanna wait till august. I want what I see on my various screens now! I want this in my hands this instant! He looks fun and cool and finally got a good Rodimus Prime! Season 3 is my absolute favorite season of all Transformers media followed by season 2 of Beast Wars, Season 1 of Prime and season 2 of Animated. I love this thing already

Why compare with a figure that far back ? Compare it against WFC JETFIRE or SKY LYNX !

 

That Unpaintable plastic is called POM, and is used in mechanical pieces like gears. Is verry flexible and strong, so is perfect for ratchets, hinges and structural pieces in Transformers figures, but is literally Unpaintable.

 

I think he's referring to the fact that Disney had a really rough go of it in the 80's especially in the kids cartoon area. But, they obviously bounced back in the 90's, but I don't think it's because kids freaked out because Hasbro killed Optimus Prime and ruined things forever, I think times just changed and kids started preferring programs like say Ducktales over whatever the latest half hour toy commercial was from Sunbow or DiC.

 

Television is cyclical. He-Man rules until DuckTales comes along. Rescue Rangers rule until Batman comes along.

actually no, look at the handle he is holding, that would be more 5mm than the double hinge. Try again using the actual handle which should be 5mm

Unless im dumb and for some reason the hole in roddy's hands are larger than 5mm, and that isnt a double hinge and more a flip out post

 

Pretty sure they're both 5mm and the peg that isn't in his hand is to stick the sword to the car or some such thing. The pommel of the sword looks wider, so you couldn't slide it through his closed hand, but the part he's actually holding looks like the same width as the grey peg.

Quick finding, no idea how important it is but it explains why Kingdom Rodimus might be taller than ER prime

Via researching the G1 rodimus toy, I watched Emgo's review of it and noticed that he was just oh so slightly taller than G1 prime. Also with all of the toy accurate design cues and choices, this more than makes sense
I hope that explains things for people who want rodimus shorter than prime in their toon canon. Roddy is 100% toy accurate

 

Personally I'd gladly own both plus the old Black Rodimus deco that barely differs from SG but I'm with you there; MP9B's is easily the most eye pleasing. It does strike me as strange that the SG deco gets applied specifically to Rodimus Prime updates despite being a Hot Rod deco. But either way if there was ever a mold to bring back the MP9B character it's this one.

 

argh too bad he cant combine with his space trailer to become taller, bigger rodimus prime... only his front cab can transform. toy wise, that still makes him hotrod technically speaking...with minor tweaks...
