I think Cheetor will get his moment soon, as he’ll soon reach his TMII moment.

I like Nyx and Skold so far. How long until Dinobot ditches the Preds for the Maxies?

 

I still feel lukewarm towards this new Beast Wars comic. Seen a couple of scattered clips/videos of the show, and discussed many times on here on this site, but it just didn't capture my interest at all. The second chapter of BW was okay but it seems like it was too short and the story is kind of bland. Another thing that kinda irks me is their beast forms. I wish they were more alien like while still having some beastial traits from the local wildlife.

 

I like it so far. Its just getting started so I'll give it time for it to flesh the characters out.

 

as if the likes of cheetor and dinobot are obscure characters that have not yet been fleshed out in the past.

This is a series that should have hit the ground running.

 

Interesting how people think the characters are substantially different. To me, it feels like everyone (with the exception of maybe Scorponok) jumped right off the TV screen and onto the page extremely faithfully. It's like I can hear the TV voice cast as I'm reading.

Tarantulas, Rattrap and Megatron were some of my favs in the show and their characterizations here still capture what I loved about em.

Skold's kind of a nonentity so far but I like Nyx. Terrorsaur is really fun here as well.

I'm glad they're not having Dinobot defect right off the bat. I'm hoping he and Megatron have some scenes together before that happens. Their dynamic was one of the most interesting in the show (better than Megatron and Primal's imo) and would be good to flesh out more here.

 

So what's going to happen to Nyx?

• Tarantulas turns her into a double-agent
• Tarantulas kills her
• Tarantulas turns her into Blackarachnia
• She gets rescued by the Maximals
• She gets rescued/released by Dinobot

What else is on the table?

 

Nyx gets used to create Sonar or Onyx Primal?

Edit: As in Nyx is used as a template for clones, not literally turned into one of the two. I can see how the original wording was confusing.

 

She is 100% not going to be turned into another character. That's frankly a very bizarre notion. Either Dinobot will release her, she will escape on her own, or one of the Maximals is going to save her.

Agreed. We're only two issues in, that just isn't on the table yet. I mean they had their Beast Mode names before they crashed for the sake of audience convenience. At best, I figure Sonar, should she show up much later down the line, will be a clone of Nyx as her toy profile mentioned cloning as part of her creation.

This isn't Beast Machines.

Even if they were to explore BM concepts in this comic if they introduced them next issue and turned Nyx into a Vehicon that would be so out of left field it would pretty much break this comic.

I know that's not what you're saying, but that is the only instance in which we should expect one character to become another in this universe. Other than Tigerhawk I suppose, but even still, the Beast Wars characters aren't Pokemon. To suggest she will become anything aside from what she's been introduced as is contradictory to the clear intent behind introducing these new characters to the comic. They are new to make the comic it's own separate thing from the cartoon, and to make Nyx turn into a character we've seen before just makes this character a redundancy.

I hadn't considered Sonar's toy bio. That does give some precedence to the idea. If it does happen I don't think it will happen until waaaaay down the line. At least I hope it won't. I actually kind of really hope we don't see any character additions for like a year, since we have barely scratched the surface of the current cast after two issues.

Your first sentence and your last aren't actually mutually exclusive. And while I agree that Nyx isn't likely to be someone we've seen before, I don't think that we should just take her at face value either.

In fact, I have actually started to wonder if they may not be doing exactly both of those things. At the same time.

You know how Megatron's plan in the show is basically to go back to prehistoric Earth and change the timeline? To use the Golden Disks to alter the future to bring about a different present for the Predacons?

Well, what if that's what Nyx and Skold are also doing? Using knowledge from out of time to change the timeline? The reason the comic is different from the show is principally these two characters. What if it's actually a part of the plot? That these two have inserted themselves into these two crews specifically to change things. Or perhaps one to change things, in Skold, and one to preserve them, in Nyx?

I know, I know. It's ludicrous. I agree. But...

Tarantulas discovered the Vok. Really, really early. Maybe that's the "ultimate universe" version of events. Maybe Skold really did accidentally scan the interior of the room and just stumble across one of the most important discoveries to be made on this planet. Or maybe she "accidentally" did so, precisely to put Tarantulas on the scent.

This has the added benefit of explaining why they created new characters instead of using pre-established ones in different capacities.

It's probably nothing. But the completely deliberate way in which they not only had Tarantulas make his discovery, but very, very specifically called out how he did so stuck out to me. Maybe the writer was just carefully dodging a question that threatened to become a plot hole. That's the most likely explanation. It's only one panel, after all. But this thought has kept me up at night. Because having had that thought, it's totally what I would have done in charge of this comic. It isn't just different for the sake of being different, it's different because PLOT!

Regardless, I'm watching the third issue like a hawk-former in search of clues that either Nyx or Skold might not be exactly what they seem. It's probably a wild goose chase. But it's my wild goose chase.

 

Now that's an out-there theory!

I wasn't trying to be funny, nor a hater. I was just musing on where the story might go.

 

Yeah. I'd rather have art like this. This is what Beast Wars should look like in comic book form. Some people may not like the story for The Gathering, but taking the art alone, this is a whole load better.
