does this guy get a shoe in ?? :D

not MP scale, but actually looks pretty good from certain angles, and the newer "toon" repainted zeta version apparently is much better as well !!

I don't consider him anything definitive, but he's a nice blocky robotic looking version. best looking alt mode for sure !!

just putting it out there, if you're looking for a something different. I just took him out for a look before and if you're not looking for the modern "cartoon accurate" look, he's actually pretty good.
tonne of articulation and not an overly difficult transformation.

To me, there's no definitive rendition yet.

I'd say the actual best is MP-44 but its backpack prevents it from being "definitive" IMO. An updated MP-44 without the backpack (which would be easily feasible by removing that sound gimmick nobody cares about), that would be my definitive Optimus.

So I don't know how hard it is to get the mods for MP-10 these days and if they have them for the different versions like shattered glass.

I have the Eness hands and the Shadow a Fisher arm and smoke stack upgrades. I hear the KFC hands are pretty poor so go for Eness if you can find them. I even got black ones for my Despotron.

Eness hands for Hasbro MP-10 & MP-10B(so far)

Shadow Fisher upgrade kits for MP-10

And what upgrades you do really depends on your personal preference. I feel both of these made a world of difference, but I know a lot of people didn't like the arm upgrades because they're too kibbly. Personally, I think the extra kibble is worth fixing the length of the arms, and to me, is extra chunk and muscle that matches his legs. I think it really improves the proportions. Also note that the colors for the Takara and Hasbro versions are different shades so you have to get the upgrade kit versions meant for one or the other. The build and material quality of both of those kits is on-par with the official bot.

If you want the SG or another version, the upgrades might not be an option.

I heard a lot of good things about the oversized MPP versions too, which added some length to the legs which also balanced out the proportions, but it won't scale with an MP collection. And then there was the undersized one which did the same.

Personally, classic blue/red MP-10 is just such an iconic, well built figure that I could never get rid of it, but I think any variation (that's not one of the cheaply built MP scale KOs) is a must have. From there, go for what you think looks the best.

MP-44 if you want the full package and didn't care about spending.
MP-10 for cheaper but also getting that old MP aesthetic and feeling. He's one of my first MPs and even though I replaced his cartoon spot with MP44, he's one of the last MP's I'd ever give up. Goes perfect with my XTB Apollyon.
Magic Square if you want the blend between those two. This one is standing with my '86 movie and beyond guys. Middle of the road option in terms of the figure itself and the aftermarket prices.

So 4 pages in, and no one has posted the ultimate version of Prime?

    Thus, the honor is mine:

For non-eBay/Facebook etc sources, who (still) has MP-44 and at the best price right now?

As for the KOs, does that include the voice box, and if so, are there quality differences?

    Thanks

It does include the voice box. And while the quality is a bit lower than the official it uses voice clips from the actual G1 show rather than modern Optimus voice clips.

I've stuck with MP10, as for me it's the best blend of cartoon profile, toy detailing and a great approximation of the real world truck. It looks like what Optimus would look like if he were real. Still decently posable, though the more recent ones do better on that count. Complex yet intuitive transformation.

Runner up would be Power Baser. I have one, which I use as Ginrai. If I could afford a second I'd get it and the Marvel Comics head to use as PMOP. Beautifully detailed, true to the original toy, down to the fake cab chest, but with modern styling & posability. He really looks like a machine, like a living robot, much more so than the animation-style Primes.

And he's frickin' huge in Super Ginrai mode!

    Should be a poll no?

MP-10 still looks the best for me even if it's not perfect.

I have MP-44 and MP-10. MP-44 is great, but the price for MP-10 is a better deal in my opinion.

I have TE for my solo living room piece.

MS for the group MP collection.

MP10 in my general Prime collection display.

They all are great and have their strengths/weaknesses.
