I took nothing out of context. I even multiquoted you both. You said "The feet of assaultus are quite a big compromise."
Grimtnt asked, "What's wrong with the feet, they look nice"
And you replied "It is is subjective, but they are kinda small."

I do wonder, of there was only one or the other, would the figures be as good?

I feel like the competition drives each to get better and better all the time.

Definitely. Just look how far we've come since Hulkie. That wouldn't have happened without competition. Heck Hulkie was only as good as it was because it had to one up the G1 toy.

As much as I want to support Newage, their prices have been skyrocketing. Galvatron was way over priced. I can't imagine what this will cost.

If we're lucky Magic Square will announce a price and New Age will try to beat it.

It's all subjective. You can't really compare some of NA's earlier, cheaper releases like the Datsuns or Flipper to Galvatrons and Soundwaves. They're on a whole other level with many more parts, paint, diecast and accessories. I'm very happy with Darius. He was worth every penny.

That's about as fair as comparing a WFC voyager to a masterpiece figure that happens to be voyager Sized.

MagicSquare may be cheaper, but it also uses nylon plastic, no diecast, usually Matt finish and less paint, whereas NewAge has a masterpiece level finish and materials.

Comparing one to the other is like comparing human alliance bumblebee to mpm bumblebee.

normally i would agree, but not sure if they'll win this one. MS looks to have strongly taken the first round with overall look of combiner mode.

and with their releases last year of megatron, soundwave and recent pair of stunticons, they've asserted to be a much stronger contender against NA than in the past.

Engineering and design wise definitely, I'm still not a fan of the nylon plastic from what I've heard in reviews so far, and the reports of discoloration and ease of warping has me worried.

I'd need to pick up one of their cheeper releases and judge it for myself at some point, maybe their cassette boxset with Ratbat? I don't see how I'd get that character any other way.

I\'m normally a NewAge fan but right now I\'m leading more towards Magic Square.

I think what this rivalry has shown us is that Newage probably has a LOT of designs in the bank, or at least in late stages of computer design. So when MS has something they’re ready to throw in production, no matter where NA is with, say, Darius and whatever else they’re ACTUALLY ready to release, they can throw their computer design out as well. For example, I’m guessing their Menasor is anywhere near ready, but they might have first pass designs hanging around.

wonder if they'll be getting scavenger out first before wildrider, given they've shown a prototype of scavengar, and only a render for wildrider which they announce months ago and haven't given any further updates since. we also have a render of devastator and nothing for menasor yet. maybe devastator is farther along in development.

Isn't the plastic newage uses better than the nylon one on MagicSquare?

I've seen reports of discoloration on MS datsuns.

A couple of years ago MS released group shots of the 1984 figures for both Autobots and Decepticons, silhouettes with the ones they had done already filled in. It gave NA a general idea where MS was going. MS has stretched it a little adding more S1 Decepticons that weren't in 1984, but other than that the only figures MS has done outside of that range since are the Stunticons who they had announced long before that and Ultra Magnus which is just an upgrade kit to a repaint of their Optimus (they will probably get Smokescreen from S2 relatively soon as well as just a simple retool of Bluestreak and Prowl). Of course NA has already done some of the 1984 Autobots MS has to do going forward, but they might do a v2 like they are on Bumblebee.

Part of that is there are legal barriers and some niceties major companies abide by that generally prevent such direct competition that 3P ignores. For example Mattel will never release a Devastator to compete with Hasbro's.

I do not have my pair in hand yet, but I've read many posts saying MS has used different plastic on their first two Stunticons, you can see the posts in that thread. There are people who are happy with it, and others who liked MS' nylon plastic who are disappointed and worried.

It looks very similar to what Fans Toys has done in the past, Blitzwing, Trailbreaker, Sixshot, and Springer are all examples of figures they showed early render images after other companies revealed theirs and it took a long time for them to come out after the other company (2 still pending 5 years later), and what they have done with Koot and Apache reissues with XTB's releases. MMC got in on it too with a Springer repaint.

Huh, I honestly haven't been watching the MS Stunticons thread, but I did think the plastic on Mixmaster looked miles better than what I've seen from them before.

I've seen some compare the previous MS plastic to some of the red plastic on Fanshobby Minerva, overly pliable under pressure and waxy.

I thought the point of legacies were that the normal combiners look bigger next to them.
