Swindle was always my least favorite of the Combaticons. Now that's a rare one... But its true.

I'm afraid that I can't agree with that

I know that this is going to annoy a lot of you, but I was never too keen on bumblebee from the Michael Bay movies, thinking about it, I found him quite annoying in G1 as well

I think the quick acceptance of the Autobots as heroes in some continuities is even more outlandish. We know in reality their reception (or any other alien threat) would be more like Bumblebee's first encounter with G.I. Joe:

I know this is from a while ago, but I agree. This was pretty much the only problem I had with the Bumblebee movie.

We can hope. It's time for another version to get some spotlight. Hopefully RiD or UT.

It isn't necessarily just about "better" figures, but also giving people another chance at the characters without resorting to EBay. Especially since mist TF series are available through streaming these days. People are likely (re)discovering Demolisher, Hot Shot, Bulkhead, Tankor, Lugnut etc. So why not make some of those characters available again? Just make them as true to the characters as WFC, even if they aren't necessarily as good as the originals.

I want a TF show with Don Figueroa as lead designer.

Or by modern day standards, Alex Milne. Hasbro should take him out of IDW to do some mainline media designs for TF. Especially since his designs in the Terminator comic were great and IDW hardly uses him anymore.

As long as someone else is responsible for the face designs. Wasn’t it Figueroa that drew the strangely gaunt, over-humanized faces on his characters? Ones that sort of looked like plasti-dipped skulls?

I haven’t read that deeply into IDW yet, but I’m guessing I would favor Milne.

Make it Andrew Wildman and you've got yourself a deal. No artist has brought the toys to life as well as him.

I love Wildman's work, but his designs are weak. I remember all the great designs from War Within, and then learning Sideswipe would be in Dark Ages. Awesome! He should look amazing. Nope, Figueroa didn't design him, Wildman did, and he's so generic and lacking in detail it's painful. Wildman's art was top-notch on that project, but I weep every time I see Sideswipe.

I'm with you, 100%. I came to realize G1 is brash to the point of stupid, ignores commands constantly and puts others in danger a lot. He can barely fight or be a scout. He might was well be a toddler.

I’m thinking he wouldn’t be designing from scratch, though. He’d be interpreting toy designs, like he did in the Marvel comic. Bringing the toys to dynamic life.

Comic artists (and animation guys) shouldn’t be doing the designs. That needs to be left to the toy engineers, and the comic and animation based on those toy designs.

I believe the old method was to indeed start with a sketch. I don't know if going digital has changed the process, as I'm sure it has changed some steps. But yeah, I'm pretty sure they still start with sketches, that get turned into turnarounds.

Edit: I can't even find of pic of Dark Ages Sideswipe to share its mediocrity.

His robot designs were the highly mechanical realistic look that the other IDW artists continued using for years. The faces were a Hasbro mandate thing for the movie and not actually his idea. The fans were so hateful about it (and wrongfully blamed him for the idea) that he left IDW and stopped doing transformers stuff. It's unfortunate because I've heard he was a huge transformers fan and still makes his own scratchbuilt transforming mechs. And his actual style was really cool.

No, Figueroa did fairly typical TF faces up until the ongoing where he did quasi-movie style segmented faces simply because the movies were popular and IDW/Hasbro wanted a style like that. His default style is very typical:

I'm not sure who you're thinking of, maybe Andrew Wildman? Figeuroa pretty much defined Transformers visually for years in the early 2000's, with excellent "mecha design" and very expressive faces, usually with large eyes and super-robot proportions that felt anime-inspired yet not derivative of it.
