I agree with you about consistency, but I don't think this mold is consistent with any of the MPs from MP-27 to current. I think it should be on the shelf with MP-10 through MP-26 (a category of MPs that most people consider "hybrid"). And likewise, I think the deco should be consistent with theirs. But, to each their own-- I'm not trying to argue what a collection should or shouldn't include. This is simply the only release since Wheeljack for which I've had significant interest, because the toon aesthetic is in most cases too generic for my liking.

Anyway, I like the mold details, so I won't be completely bummed about a grey face as long as the rest of the colors are consistent with the toy and not the toon. I can paint the face silver in the same way that I've done my Ironhide, Ratchet, and Inferno. As long as the sculpt is crisp, the details show through a couple of paint layers just fine. I'm not up for painting an entire figure, though, because I like to transform them without worry of paint flaking. If there's no toy deco of this guy, then I guess I'll just do without Skids altogether, and you toon guys will have two options to my zero. There's surely no additional 3P that's going to take a stab at Skids once TT does it. I'll just have to be satisfied with XTB Herald.

That’s why I said Alternator and not Binaltech. I’m aware that Overdrive had a weapon in the Binaltech version. I was specifically mentioning the issue with releasing the Alternator version and how it only had a shield. So in this case, I’ll walk back the Honda Japan comment but still stand by everything else.

So far there's not really much toon to be a hybrid, so I'm guessing they make that up with the paintjob. I do think the glossier darker blue of the toy would look a lot nicer with the Infernos and Grapples. Hopefully, if they go toon paintjob it will still look fit just as nicely. That leaves his arm weapons which are a tossup of chrome or charcoal. i guess if they're parts-forming he may get alternate weapons in the other color scheme. Fingers crossed POs go up by next Thursday.

Seems unlikely we will get chrome on the figure on any of the robot parts. Maybe silver paint on the upper legs.

I'm undoubtedly in the minority but I'm really excited by this change in aesthetics. I actually like the hybrid design of earlier MP figures so it's nice to see this style return here. As for his deco, I'm actually hoping that it will be in line with earlier MP figures. Wheeljack in his Alitalia livery is one of my favourite figures of all time. I know that most people prefer is cartoon accurate deco but I really like the more accurate racing livery of the original. If Jazz ever comes into fruition I'd really love to see him in Martini Racing livery and with the more recent focus on cartoon accuracy I was fearful that this was likely an impossibility. Skids' shift to a more hybrid design has given me a glimmer of hope that we might see a hybrid version of Jazz with a deco that is more accurate to Jacky Ickx's 935 rather than a cartoon-accurate deco. I'm also excited by the possibility of Skids having a paint scheme that is more consistent with earlier MP figures as I generally prefer MP cars that closely represent their real-life counterparts. I can't wait to see what Skids looks like with paint.

Actually I'm surprised by the amount of people who welcome this new (old?) aesthetic change, myself included.

I hope Skids has a nice, vibrant colourscheme with hues more like the original toy. I really like the rich dark blue and red accents of that figure, and I would certainly like chrome weapons, but I'll settle for shiny silver.

He's going to get a very realistic paint scheme accurate to the vehicle - that's obviously the whole point to his design.

How that translates in robot mode will be the interesting part. If they were to go full toy scheme, why give him the show head?

Have to see the finished product and then we can really get a handle on what they are up to here.

I don't think they're going "full toy scheme" but I'm hoping that they split the difference as they did with the early MP car releases. Those earlier MP releases adhered to something of a hybrid design. They had head designs that were obviously pulled from the show while having additional detailing and paint schemes that were more closely tied to the original toys. Tracks for example doesn't have a faceplate and Smokescreen had his helmet-shaped head before it was remolded for his MP+ rerelease. MP Skids feels very similar to those earlier MP cars as opposed to more recent releases which have been focused predominantly on cartoon accuracy. Personally, I couldn't be more excited.

I'm 100% in the same camp. I'm afraid Skids is a one-off MP "retro" exercise, though, rather than an indication of a change in stylistic direction for the line. Granted, I'm crossing all fingers that it's the start of a trend, or at least the start of a parallel line to the current slavish cartoon-accurate series.

He was in two or three scenes from one epidode so not feeling a lot of excitement on this one. I will wait for the + version I think since I do prefer the toon look since the cartoon is where my heart lies. However, I am just happy that they\'re still doing new g1 figures at all, with all the movie (rubbish imo) and beast wars mps they\'ve done.

I need this in CHUG scale. I have all my 84-85 Autobot cars updated now except for this guy. Well, I have the Takara Legends version but I want an actual G1 version.

Yeah, you don't really have any options there, do you? The IDW-styled one is very much a different character. I'm somewhat surprised there hasn't been a WFC Skids.

I just pray this is below $150, because if so, it's just the final little push I need to get me into MPs.

Are there any Photoshop Masters willing to take on the task of "smoothing" out all the details for possible toon + version?

Well here is my entry for overly slavish toy deco. I also hope to do a toy head, smoothed retooled toon version, toy Crosscut...I swear I'm not interested in this release
