Really loving SS 86 grimlock, and he pairs nicely with Titans return Wheelie.

Slightly off topic from this thread but does anyone know where I can get a 5mm compatible slingshot for Titans return wheelie?

I know that Dr. Wu makes one that was with his Legends weapons pack. I'm not sure if anyone still has one for sale. I know I have one around somewhere that I don't use.

I'm curious how you got the original head off, because it seems like it's not posible to get it off without ripping the ballpeg off with it.

I don't think they're talking about the bicep or thigh swivel gimmick.

Looking at pics of the figure again, that is weird. I wonder if they wanted people to be able take his elbows/knees apart as well as his biceps/thighs? That's all I can think of, other than budget problems. I mean, I haven't heard of anyone's figure being loose in those spots though, so I guess it worked in the end anyway.

I don't mean the separating bicep and thigh swivels. His actual elbows and knees are on friction joints. It's odd, and it makes the tolerances feel weird. They're not exactly loose but they don't hold a pose very well. Especially the knees, they're a bit floppy in spots on my copy

Don't pull, that's asking for trouble with that kind of stress. There is a small expansion gap on the underside of the the black platform which holds the ball joint. Use a watch repair Phillips head screwdriver to push the ball joint out of the socket while holding the platform firmly. This avoids stressing the neck.

How difficult was the Wheelie head swap?

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I found a nice alternative though.
Not the most difficult mod but not a straight forward headswap either. The ball joint on SS86 wheelie is too big to fit into the hole in Titans return wheelie’s body. I had to shave down the ball joint a fairly decent amount while also shaving around the hole on TR wheelie to make it bigger. The result is worth it though in my opinion.

This may seem a strange question, but does anyone have any tips on how to transform SS86 Jazz without cracking his windshield? :)  I love this figure, but I'm absolutely gutted as I have now cracked the windscreen on *two* of them. The first time I thought it was just down to a stupid mistake on my part - I got the windscreen trapped under the back of the head during the second transformation and heard a snap. After that there was a crack in the windshield. This is what that looks like now, quite a few transformations later (the crack has grown a little but not much so far):

    ss86a.jpg

I like the figure so much that I bought a replacement in case this crack ended up going all the way up. I just transformed the replacement into car mode for the first time and was very, *very* careful and gentle. I had problems getting the back of the roof to attach to the legs, but I didn't force it and so paranoid was I about cracking the windshield again that I didn't even push it all the way into place. Even so, I noticed this already:

    ss86b.jpg

I know I'm not the only one who has had issues with the windshield, and looking at a few images in this thread there seem to be similar cracks in some others (e.g. Studio Series '86 Appreciation Thread and Studio Series '86 Appreciation Thread). But it doesn't seem to be a widespread issue, either - given how little the issue is mentioned it seems to be the exception rather than the rule. So have I just been extraordinarily unlucky, or is there some trick to massaging the roof into place even more gently than I did?

Has anybody else noticed small cracks like this in their Jazz windshields?

On a more positive note, I received this guy yesterday and he is utterly beautiful:

    hotrod.jpg

He blows the Masterpiece out of the water - and thanks to some posts on this thread I have so far managed to avoid breaking his exhaust pipe tabs. :)

Grimlock is definitely king. Some minor issues that have been mentioned before but this guy is great. The best mainline Grimlock ever released by Hasbro. Just need the remaining four dinobots.
