So with this script, I'm just curious, was Predaking meant to be an Autobots? Then at some where along the lines and because he didn't feature in the actual TFTM, they changed him into the Decepticons?

I've only skimmed through it quickly but very interesting stuff. The sub plot of Blaster and the autobot city survivors is something I would of liked to have seen I wonder why it was drop intirely?

This just caught my eye as I was posting.
(WHEELIE is like the Wolf Boy of Quintesson - an Autobot like Robotoid
kid who's been running wild, evading the Sharkticons ever since
his ship crashed, killing those in his party the Sharkticons didn't
devour. He is tough, has necklace of Sharkticon teeth around his
neck, packs a three bladed laser knife and a special SLING which
    hurls FIRE STONES.) :inquisiti
Far removed from what wheelie became, why did they change this?

I remember that Wolf Boy of Quintesson description from another draft of the movie that I read online years ago.

Anyway, I just finished reading the entire thing, and what I find interesting:

    1) The movie was to take place in 1989 instead of 2005. Wow, they advanced the timeline a whole three years.

    2) Spike never appears nor is ever mentioned. Daniel comes off as being some generic random kid that befriended the Autobots. Why not just use Spike?

Somehow, if this had appeared as written, I don't think that it would have received the 'U' certificate that it did in the UK back in '86...or 'PG', either, come to that - comes across as terrifically violent in (a lot!) of places, and downright terrifying in others.

Considering the target market, I'm not surprised that a lot of stuff got the chop, because there's quite a fair bit that would have given young kids nightmares (what with characters being eaten alive, fused together then blasted into fragments, impaled, blown apart, sliced in half, carved to pieces, melted into slag, and crushed into scrap)! Probably quite apt for today's 'Buckets Of Blood' crowd, though... :p

(And that doesn't even begin to cover the whole Ingestor business - some of that would have been downright disturbing!)

Does explain a couple of things, though - not least of which would be Furman's 'Life Spark' oddness from Target: 2006, which now finally makes sense! But then it throws in Daniel, whose presence, as Tuxedo Mark quite rightly points out, makes no sense whatsoever...

Very interesting! :)  Love this stuff...it makes me wish some of these scenes were animated...how cool would that be?

On a side note...has anyone questioned if this is legit? Call me a skeptic but it wouldn't be too hard for a fan to knock something like this up to stir interest! Hah. An obsessed fan...but yeah. Perhaps though Ron Friedman is merely hard up for cash...who can blame him though...this is a cash cow for original Transformer movie fans :)  Great find...legit or not.

I wonder if anybody has posted those original sketches (Unicron, Wreck-Gar, Sharkticon) anywhere yet?

Fascinating stuff. It's great that after so many years we can still learn new stuff.

    Love the Blaster sub-plot!

Looks like the link died only 2 years later based on comments on the article. Does anyone have a copy of it? I don't know if it's worth it, but it might be nice if the article posted an updated link.

I'd also love to grab a copy of the PDF if anyone still has it archived.

I believe they are all stored here:
    Transformers Scripts - Google Drive

    and here:
Sunbow and Marvel Productions Script/Storyboard Archive: MP 4034 The Transformers The Movie

Along with quite a few different draft scripts, you also get other fun oddities like the original series bible, scripts for other episodes including the pilot and the original outline! There’s some really fun things to lose yourself in for a few hours there, I hope it helps.

*Edit - The second link not only contains all the different versions Ron Friedman did, but also includes movie storyboards, including quite a few scenes that were never animated / variants on what was! Oh what could have been...

Also the 80 page or so version of the Transformers 86 Storyboards is here on TFRAW.com for anyone interested in that where it can be viewed in its sequences or downloaded also as the whole darn thing. (it's not my blog, just mentioning here as it's the only complete version online I know of..)
    Transformers The Movie Storyboard Set

I keep meaning to print a version for myself to browse at some point as its just hard viewing so many pages on a monitor, then I can get it hole punched and into some kind of ... folder that holds hundreds of pages.
And then make notes and eventually more articles...

Metroplex and the Attack on Autobot City in Transformers: The Movie 1986

EDIT: just noticed that someone posted in an old thread (this one) so that means it will get locked any day at any time.

So I suggest start a new one for anyone that wants the various links etc from the pages of the thread with the updated links.

It popped up in notifications so had no idea. And if I post in a thread, you know it will get locked, it's like an annoying tradition. God bless bizarre archaic rules!

So, Blasters story just basically ends on pg 92 ? I skimmed it really quick but it seems to just suddenly end ? did I miss something that concluded that story line ?

Nope, it just ends. It's just there because Ron Friedman can't write a plot that doesn't split off the protagonists into at least three groups.
