What is your main reason for not collecting any official Takara Masterpiece Figures?

I collected G1 MPs for many years, loved it when they were a mix of toon- toy- real esthetic. Still love every G1 MP I own, Sunstreaker being the last one I purchased.

I decided to stop collecting G1 MPs when they released Optimus v3..nothing wrong with him or who has come after, just not interested in playing the replacement game with my current MP collection.
Side note ....passed on Hound cus I am too scared to purchase due to the QC horror stories. :wtf:

May get Arcee...shrug... not in any rush...

Main line releases have been knocking it out of the park with G1 updates... scratching my G1 itch.. something that only G1 MPs use to satisfy.. lol... guess you could say Has/Tak helped pull me out of G1 MP collecting with their fantastic WFC figures.

LOVE ALL THE CURRENT MPMS - Keep em coming!

I was full into the Masterpiece line back around the time of MP-10 as I LOVED they were doing G1 characters with the G1 vehicle modes again. Sideswipe, Red Alert, Prowl, Bluestreak, Smokescreen, Wheeljack... They were this perfect blend of G1 toy and cartoon. Obviously, we haven't gotten a number of characters due to various reasons (Jazz, Mirage, Cliffjumper), but the 3rd party companies helped fill those gaps.

However, as the line went on and there was this push more for cartoon accurate robot modes, the vehicle modes suffered for it, being jumbled messes of panels that would end up smooshed onto the robot modes' backs and legs. And the prices started to increase...while the quality control/materials started to decrease. It just kinda burned me out on the line with Sunstreaker being my last MP purchase.

It didn't help that the 3rd party company options have dwindled and their prices increased while quantities available were decreased. Anything Fans Toys sells out their pre-orders super quick now...

Also, the constant redoing of characters we already have. 3 versions of Optimus, 2 Bumblebee, 2 Megatron, now THREE Starscreams (and all the other Seekers soon)...I'm tired that just so again, they can make a more "toon accurate" version of the characters.

I just really don't care for the line anymore. Especially when I'm having way more fun with current Transformers toys being put out by Hasbro. I mean, SS 86 movie Hot Rod is WAY more fun than his MP counterpart to me for example and for way cheaper.

    Why should I?

The main lines are mini-MPs, priced well, easy to get, and not slaved to a 35 year old budget cartoon.

That's ignoring how many times they restarted the line, changing the scale, all the QC issues, and the entire slew of other problems. Star Saber, Buzzsaw, and Ravage are the only MPs that I feel are worth anything and the cassettes had some real high quality KO's a few years back that I got.

I mainly buy KOs. Those prices and the quality of their figures are amazing. Plus I heard the more recent mps been having qc issues, like Hound.
    Avoid MP KO Sideswipe though.

I feel the mainline has more character variety and at a price I can afford. I've been collecting Studio Series ever since its inception and I now have a display full of Bayformer designs, while if I collect MPM (official or 3P) I'd still be waiting to have figures of those (and most of those are not likely to receive MP style figures. Like MPM Crowbar is ever gonna happen...)
MPs also feel more like display pieces and not as figures I can pull off the shelf to fiddle with and actually play with (yes, I sometimes still do that. It's a great stress reliever!)
I only have one MPM, Barricade, that I got for a good discount, basically a little over half off the regular price.

Gonne be one of the few who don't cite QC, aesthetic, and/or premium pricing: I just don't trust people very much where I live, so not having multiple hundred dollar figures just saves me a lot of worry.

I have no emotional connection to the G1 cartoon, so only the Beast Wars toys have any draw for me.

Unfortunately, I didn't have money to spend on action figures until recently. The most I have ever spent on a figure was the SH Monsterarts Rathalos ($130). And I really like Monster Hunter. Of course, I also really like Beast Wars... But the cheapest option right now is MP-46 at $140. And she might as well not be a Transformer with how bad her beast mode looks.

I've been dissatisfied with many of my MP purchases, so won't bother getting more. I got MP-01 Optimus when he came out, the first time I've shelled out for a Takara figure, since I wanted the long smokestacks and no battle damage. He looks great, but the size and weight make him a bit unwieldy to actually play with.

I got the first MP Starscream, who's probably the only MP I've transformed more than twice.

Grimlock's another one that looks great, but is too big to fiddle with much. I couldn't find the proper MP Soundwave, but got the clear version on discount. He's decent to fiddle with, but a clear box isn't the most fun alt mode, so he stays a bot.

I got MP Prowl at TRU. Getting the hood to lock into place felt like the figure was about to break. I don't remember if I was successful. That's no fun, so back to TRU he went. By this point, the excitement I felt when the MP line was announced was gone, and I decided to be much more selective in my purchases.

I gave Wheeljack a shot, since his G1 toy was my first TF, and I like the design. First thing I notice taking him out of the box is a square chip of red paint missing from the roof. Second thing I notice is the pillars between the windshield and side windows don't match. One was a gradual fade from white to red, the other a sudden change. Either would've looked fine if they'd matched. There were a few other errors as well. I posted pics on this forum, and people thought it might've been a KO. On top of that, I didn't find the transformation any fun. I was able to return him for store credit, but had to eat the shipping costs. I just wanted the thing out of my house.

So, I'm done with MPs. I found a near mint MP-05 Megatron at a comic shop for $75, but that'll probably be it for me.

The price increases, overly complex transformations, QC issues, and toon-accuracy others have mentioned are turn-offs for me, too. But I was done with MPs before those happened.

    Budget.

I prefer the tune aesthetic and think the scale is a little better, but I'd never been able to complete the 84-87 cast at that price range. So I stick with CHUG.

Ideally though, I wish I could just get all the combiners in MP scale. I think they scale better with CHUG bots.

Too big for what I want for it to be honest. Plus not liking the toon aesthetic.

I decided long ago that the CHUG scale was my thing so that's where I've been

    There’s a few things:

    - make them fun to handle
    - pull your head out of your ass on pricing
    - make Decepticons that were introduced after 1984 (I’m not counting the Coneheads because they reused a ton of the existing seeker engineering)
    - Make Snapdragon
    - Make Apeface

That would make me buy two. Otherwise they’re entirely the wrong scale to interest me. I don’t need massive figures of individual bots unless they’re massive within the fiction.

Biggest reason is that I just don't care for most of the characters they make. Generations is cheaper and starting to do more of the characters/decos I'm interested in. Skids is the first MP mold in a while I'm seriously considering becuase I expect it to be cheaper and have cool repaints.

I like toys I can play with. MP aren't really toys. They're overpriced, highly delicate, transformable, pre-assembled model kits that can break if you even look at them funny.

QC for me at least. Ive had to buy a second Barricade because his leg piece broke. Now imma have to buy another Jazz because his damn paint is chipping. If they're gonna make shit so expensive I wish the QC was 100x better

I still do buy MPs (official and 3P) but character selection is the main thing stopping me.

I don't need the ever-more-perfect edition of the same 84 guys. My "goal" if I have one, is to have fun toys - not to keep inching closer to some kind of perfection. I didn't need to get the new MP Optimus, Bumblebee or Starscream because their old MPs are close enough. Hell, their Earthrise toys are close enough for me. I don't need to spend $400 to re-buy characters I already have to get them to be 15% more accurate.

So when MP (official or not) covers new ground, I'm much more interested. I recently got Spinout and he's great. Skids (more specifically his potential redecos) have my attention too.

But with all that said, I still find MP-level TF to be really fascinating, whether I buy them or not. I love seeing new, creative, and amazing ways to make the transformation possible. Even if I'm never buying the new Optimus or Starscream, the engineering tricks they pull off are amazing to see.

I have a decent collection of MPs but I don’t think I would ever replace them if something ever happened to them. Many are 3rd party and just too expensive on the aftermarket. They take up a lot of space and a lot have QC issues which is a shame considering how expensive they are. Still I’m glad I was able to get the collection I have.
