I think it's because his general design was inspired by the Seekers and more so Starscream, rather than him being a descendent of Starscream.

From the original Transfomers production bible: it looks like the premise for "The Ultimate Doom" might have ended up being an overarching plot that would have lasted more than three episodes.

I liked that part of the finished episode. Interesting. We might see something like this in the future if we ever go Thant direction again.

I think my favourite unused ideas might be the 'G1 Beast Wars' implied by the early toy bios, which took place on (then-) present-day Earth with Primal and Megatron being reformatted versions of the G1 characters. It's an intriguing concept that I'd like to see picked up on at some point. Some of the Machine Wars bios also had some interesting concepts, like Thundercracker's rebellion and the existence of Megaplex.

Starscream was going to be called “Ulchtar”.

Ratchet was originally going to be female, and the Autobot’s’ “go to gal” for repairs. Her name? Greasefinger.

Not exactly a plot idea, but a semi-interesting bit nonetheless (from "Transport to Oblivian"):

I’m not sure if this was confirmed because Someone on YouTube said this and he’s not 100% reliable he’s got a lot of things right but he’s got a few slumps. Anyways megatron was going to appear in Rid15 as a frank castle type character where he would kill any remaining decepticons.

Smokescreen was going to be killed instead of cliffjumper.

There was going to be a prime sequel called Unit E where they would crossover with hasbro’s other properties such as gI joe, Rom and something else, and the characters would’ve been ratchet, a character called dinobot, rom, and duke.

In Marvel Transformers #74 the Ark detects only one Transformer signal on Earth in two parts. What was it?

Optimus Prime was originally written with a Jamaican accent, which sounds interesting... and I could totally see it.

I can’t correct you but based on other things I’ve read from that site and others like it, I wouldn’t consider it reliable

All I will say is this, Marvel originally wrote the character profile for him to be the robotic Abraham Lincoln........

And let’s not forget we are talking about the early 80s......This might not be PC in today’s climate but I can’t imagine anybody at Sunbow/Marvel productions Would have considered using a Jamaican accent on the most prominent/leader character in a large cast meant Primarily for the American market

Were there any Marvel/Sunbow shows that featured a black or black sounding lead character?

I can’t say it’s not true but I just can’t see how that was ever given any serious consideration if there’s any truth to it at all

Now if someone wants to say that Michael Bay through something like that out at some point in the casting for his first film I could possibly believe that but I can’t believe this was something intended for the original cartoon

According to the guy who saw the early pre-screening for Bumblebee, the original ending was going to involve the two Decepticons attempting to send out an Energon surge that would turn nearby electronic equipment into a villainous army. This was probably cut when the appliance house scene was cut, because that scene foreshadowed the ending (although it could have been the other way around...maybe that scene was cut first, then the ending was changed because it wouldn't make sense anymore). The change worked out seamlessly, because the Cybertron scene ended up foreshadowing the new ending (by seeing the Decepticon army in action).

There's a part of me that actually wishes the original ending was kept. Given the choice between something a bit silly or something too straightforward, I tend to lean towards silliness. The idea of the Decepticons trying to create an army of washing machines and ceiling fans is funny, and totally feels like something straight out of the G1 cartoon. The whole "we have to summon our army from space" feels like a generic Marvel villain scheme. But since we likely wouldn't have even seen the appliance army (I'm assuming the Decepticons were still going to fail), I guess it doesn't really matter.

Although it does make sense for it to be Spike considering the return of Fort Max in issue 79, it never sat right with me. I know the TFwiki also suggests this and back in the 80's I also though it was Fortress Maximus, but it just doesn't make sense.

First would Spike really register as Cybertronian? I somehow doubt it: he's a human with nebulan tech inside him.

Secondly, in a previous issue he reclaimed the helmet and kept it with him having realised Fort Max was very much a part of him. So unless he was on a trip and left the helmet back home, but else he and his helmet would be roughly in the same area. (It also cannot have been his body, since that was left on the Ark and the scan was of Earth.)

Thirdly, in the previous issues the Autobot Targetmasters were seperated from their guns after the Autobots surrendered. And we never see these Nebulan guns again. Ever. We see the Autobots (Sureshot and Kup at the very least), but they either don't have weapons or use generic guns. This kind of suggests that these Nebulans remained on Earth when Primus did his teleport trick. If this scan registered Spike as a Transformer, then so should they. And that would increase the count. Yet they weren't registered as Transformers (even though still fully in their armour).

My current thinking is Sky Lynx. Except for the fact that Marvel always depicted him more as a triple changer (at least Budiansky did), he fits the describtion perfectly: one Transformer split into two parts. And last we saw him he was on Earth. Another possibility would be a pretender: robot and shell.

In the bumblebee movie the cybertron scene would’ve included megatron destroying stuff

and according to @Optimus_Prowl megatron was going to be in the ending
