Just to chronicle progress in the room, enough new figures have come out since the last go around to do new shelf shots throughout (updated on the first page)

Notably, there’s now a set of tables in the center of the floor that currently house duplicate MP figures (from 3P to official upgrades or MP+ replacements) but only for S1 and Movie bots.

Eventually when HasLab Unicron gets here I’ll play with a final setup for this area, but for now I just filled it in :D

    2BD9A19F-0B61-4232-9633-F018860A8D6F.jpeg

Added several BW MP’s since last update ... clearly the Predicons need some more love:

    4C95B3DA-7BD2-4E82-8B23-759403A96035.jpeg

I rearranged the G2 and RID sections to look a little better and accommodate the rest of the main cast figures:

    FF7E509F-921C-4F19-B48B-4517C1CCF961.jpeg

I did a bit of a “diagonal staggering” effect in several areas of the display instead of just side by side, some quick examples:

and lastly I transformed all the micro masters and I think I like them better this way :lol

Said it before and i'll say it again, this is like a dream, haha.

Amazing collection, my guy! While i'm all in on MP and CHUG IDW stuff and not OG 80s G1 toys, still just as mesmerizing to see them all together in a beautiful display!

I'll say it again and again, your collection is my favorite that I can find on the internet and within this fandom. I use your Collection Showcase as a visual reference at least once a week :)

That’s pretty awesome and I appreciate you sharing that! Can I ask why so frequently it gets referenced? Just curious :)

I appreciate the way you have them grouped. Even by photos. For instance, if I would like to see all the Masterforce Decepticons together-- i just check your collection. All the Autobot Turbomasters? Boom, your collection. G2 figures only? No problem.

I find a lot of collectors tend to lump everything together and, to me, it turns into a big mess. When I see your collection I feel like it's a visual evolution of TF engineering at a glance.

Makes total sense! And 100% that was my general plan when I designed the room ... the kinds of details that I can even point out to random people that “kinda” know TF ... like: Here’s where they went gimmick happy (HM/TM/PM) ... where they went to copy MOTU (Pretenders) GIJoe (Action Masters) and Micromachines (Micromasters) etc ... You want to see what happened when Transformers died in the US and Japan kept it going? BAM!

The whole room was set to physically evolve from the center of the room/display and work its way around the walls chronologically all the way to the back “timeline” wall and be as symmetrical as physically possible for the Autobot/Decepticon sides ... problem is I still have movie figures, titanium, etc that don’t have a home but hey, there’s only so much space and something had to go :lol

    Couple of collection updates!

A wonderful member helped me out by offering his spare FT Astrotrain at cost, and finally helped me fill an important gap in the main display!!

Along with the completion of XTB Menasor, the Decepticon side is essentially done!

    E378F79B-F509-4544-AB2A-63C94E7AB109.jpeg

I also played around with some of the movie bots and switched up the shelves/risers because I think it looks less cluttered this way:

    before:

    After:

    7ED7418B-51C3-454D-95DD-ED1229BA75FB.jpeg

Honestly now I’m just really excited for Haslab Unicron to make his way to the room so I can play with that center display area!!

I truly thought that AT LEAST the other 2 Headmasters would get made … still holding out hope but not relying on it either :(

Time for a few updates, including uploading the most recent collection pics to the first page! :D

Biggest addition (quite literally) has been HasLab Unicron:

    668B2EBC-A3EC-4AD9-AB92-EE56C652FD19.jpeg

Had some fun taking a few pics:

    B4F9FDA0-E8F9-4065-BBC2-FA2386BDA0F6.jpeg

    E77C1B8A-A030-4537-BFA2-CAC831E5EBCA.jpeg

He currently lives in the center of the collection with my alt mode S1/Movie display … I’m sure at some point I’ll do something far more fancy with this space :)

    68AF3294-246D-41D9-A9A9-43DDAD9A951E.jpeg

I finally picked up a KO of MP44 to replace my main Prime in the display:

    214715C1-56C7-41C6-9FEC-8DF5242B4C82.jpeg

I also restructured a couple of shelves to make the main display have all shelves on the left and right at the same height:

    Before and After:

    D59E33B8-3585-4EE4-BBE9-D590CF0ACA1C.jpeg

A couple other places I played with the setup as well to balance it out visually:

    Before and After:

    1FB892CE-C109-4153-BAD1-6C6ACECA8EE0.jpeg

    3EB30FC9-8DC7-402F-B39B-F95CFC1400C3.jpeg

The most recent thing I’ve been messing with (and collection photos on the first page reflect this) is trying to decide if I like the MP figures more posed or like statues :lol

The crazy thing is that generally a well posed figure is always preferred, but I still can’t tell if for a side by side museum-like display that the posing looks better or worse … hmmm

    7EB07D50-72F9-4CCF-8EAD-46C79772B039.jpeg

Full main-shot with the posing as opposed to a couple pics above where they were still static:

Feel free to let me know your opinions!

Wait, wait, wait… Your G1 Jetfire appears to be VERY SLIGHTLY YELLOWED. Clearly, as a result, this entire collection is embarrassing trash. CLEARLY.

Obviously, I fucking love everything about your room. Thank you for sharing it.

I think I’m going to weigh in as an advocate of the “dynamically posing the MPs next to the more stoic G1 counterparts” approach. Since the G1 toys are always going to be stuck in straight poses, a more dynamic approach to the MPs helps to better visually differentiate them, and serves to illustrate just how far the sophistication in engineering has progressed.

Kudos on your towering monument to nerdery, sir.

:lol  And the funny thing is I even did the hydrogen peroxide trick on Jetfire at one point and he looked great for about a year or so :lol

and I keep going back and forth on the posing… there’s something so “clean” about this display when they’re stoic but I also agree 100% with your points which is why I keep trying it!

I might settle for an in between choice where larger bots that are 3 to a shelf (like the seekers) are more posed and on shelves that are more cramped (all the autobot car shelves) leaving them in far more subtle, almost statue poses…. It’s a forever work in progress and at some point I have a vision of that center display being a huge diorama which would add a cool feature to the room and add visual interest to the whole setup….
I think the biggest thing is how huge the room is and there’s sooooo much displayed that it just feels cleaner with similar “white space” between figures.

anyhow, I’m rambling :lol  thanks for the comments and this is half the reason I posed the question!

Interestingly enough, our home has spray foam insulation and even in the hottest of summers, if we were to turn the AC off the house wouldn’t go above 80 degrees … so in this dedicated collection room, I just closed all the vents. It doesn’t make it dust proof, but it doesn’t collect with anywhere near the speed as any place else in the house.

I looked into adding glass doors but I’ve yet to find a solution that didn’t ruin the look I was going for, so I’ve just settled on taking down chunks to dust/rearrange slightly from time to time.
