    Whoa whoa whoa whoa.

I'm not sure how much of the new She-Ra show you watched, but this is an epic, award-winning, ground-breaking show. The character development of its ensemble cast, music, flawless animation, and brilliant writing far exceed almost any cartoon I have ever seen.

I had low expectations going in after seeing the trailer and the stills, but after watching it, ALL of it, with my 7-year-old daughter, it is definitely of my surprise favorites.

Transformers has had comedy before (even Beast Wars, in its time, was full of jokes some funny some not so funny) but the issue is that it has never been the main focus. Could it be done? Probably. I'm sure there is a lot of funny jokes that with the right crew and cast could make for a potentially pretty funny and unique. The question is, will it be this breath of fresh air? Honestly I don\'t really expect it. Call me negative, call me a hater or whatever else you want but the last decade has pretty bad when it come trying to make comedic shows that more often than not made the source material more of a joke than it had any respect being. Poking fun at one\'s own work/franchise is one thing but its a delicate balance and we're just not in a good era for comedy cartoon as it tend to be pretty bad, either being a very silly juvenile joke or too reliant on 'haha le nerdy pop culture reference'. You can't rely on just one type of humour or have the 'lol so funneh' factor be the only thing going down in a show, otherwise you end with a string of endless jokes that exhaust themselves because tv show are written with the idea the audience has ADHD.

Then you know at some point the writers will try to garner social media brownie points by doing some really dumb shit that's not going to go down well and anyone who think its not doing a good job with the source material will start have labels applied to them which render all discussions moot. We're already seeing this in this thread.

Astonished at the folks who prefer the 2012 TMNT to Rise. The former took such a sharp drop in quality after season 2 it's not even funny. The latter is so much more fun, the only thing bogging it down is the 11 minute run time - a problem that this new show thankfully won't have. Also happy to see Dubuc involved - she's consistently produced good work for this franchise and understands it.

One of the things I love about Transformers as a franchise are the different takes on the concept each iteration brings. We can get fun sci-fi, as in Beast Wars, trippy pseudo-philosophy in Beast Machines, whatever Prime was attempting to do where it feels like a procedural but it's serialized, the pure fanwank of TFA, etc, etc.

Having not watched the Unicron Trilogy, the only series I can say consists of pure shit is WFC. Other than that, I'm game for this new incarnation, especially since it looks like it will have some love put into it. Here's hoping it's 2D!

Comedy is subjective, but how many modern cartoons are actually funny? How many are even allowed to be funny without going to war with basement trolls on social media?
The views of Mel Brooks and John Cleese on comedy in current year > opinions of brainless Twitter mobs.

Yeah definitely forgot the blue text.
    Animated was great.
Cyberverse was like one of those nasty turds that leaves streaks in the bowl.

Anyway, from that small snippet of info given I immediately assume I’m going to hate this—sounds like a family living with I guess Minicons? May give it the benefit of the doubt. Would be good if there are some fresh/cool designs for a change. Sadly I’m getting some 90’s Masked Rider vibes... “alien” moves in with a family... actually I hope it’s more MR than ET—pretty damn tired of Transformers getting reduced to beep boop mute pets.

I wouldn't he adverse to them showing up down the road if the show is a success, but it'd be fun to either use more obscure characters or mix in a few new ones as well.

Heck, you could probably sneak the name value guys in the toyline even if they weren't prominent in the show. Just have them pop up at the beginning when the new characters get their mission (similar to Rescue Bots at first).

Honestly, a fun concept for Transformers comedy would be a Decepticon-focused show. Make it about a squad of dysfunctional, ineffectual dumb goons. Like the Battlecharger twins, Misfire and other bunglers with a few ineffectual straight man. That way when the character inevitably screw up it doesn't reflect as poorly as, say, Optimus Prime being reduced to a dumb comedic idiot or characters being made into doofus so someone like Windblade can wag their fingers at the dumb characters. If you're going to make characters a bunch of bunglers, make it about awful characters/idiots. Decepticon goons are perfect for this because it then help explain why the bad guys lose every episode! Its because the goons are ineffective.

The concept has potential I just don't expect the writer to do it right.

Okay, but then also Guardians and Thor Ragnarok made like a gajillion dollars while still being comedies.

And neither lowered the profile of their respective casts at all.

You basically want a Scavenger's series. I (and I assume many others) want this as well.

I say the best comedy comes from characters, not just situations, so I say we give this series a chance to develop and find it's footing before we pass sweeping judgements.

Thor Ragnarok and Endgame made Thor into an idiotic buffoon. But, sure, if you like that as your benchmark for heroes be my guest.

A Stunticons show would make for great comedy but its a bit too....heavy...for a kid's show, since they are a walking asylum that combine into a bigger walking asylum that smash people.

we were so close with rid15... but then we went from way-too-cartoony goons and goody two shoes heroes to a ton of old prime villains coming back and overpowered gimmickry instead of actual stories.

oh, and optimus came back in the 2nd episode for some reason lol
