While it isn't cartoon accurate, then again, there isn't much cartoon to be accurate to.

Interesting that the hands are the less-square/more human rounded ones that we've seen on the modern MPs.

I applaud takara for returning to a more detail oriented masterpiece. This version of Skids looks like it aligns more to MP-11, MP-12, MP-17, etc...

But.. as much as I applaud them for this.. what is the sound of one hand clapping?

In other words... too little.. too late.

I cannot see an official MP Skids providing improvements or advancements that are leaps and bounds beyond this.

Why not just copy XTB and improve the face? If 3P can make figures very similar to a known IP, what stops Takara from simply copying a 3P making a design that resembles their intellectual property?

I don't know... I HATE IP and the amount of money funneled to attorneys over such matters... I guess I'm not very intellectual.

But at least Takara didn't opt to have Skids's arms protrude from his torso. That's a definite plus side.. and proof that the animation model is not always the goal we should be trying to achieve.

On the other hand... after seeing the toon model of Tracks above, I think there is plenty of room for Takara to improve his bot-mode, with specific attention paid to his headpiece-backpack, and arms.

I still love my tracks... all three modes!!

But I'd be lying if I didn't say that his bot-mode couldn't use a few improvements.

Realizing that if Takara "stuck to a plan" we'd still be at MP-01 and MP-05. MP-10 would never have kicked off the more aligned "robot scale" and MP-44 would not be a thing either.

    So, there's that.

But, I suppose must agree. Takara needs to stick with the idea that Masterpiece figures should be an amalgamation of any one character's representation over the years and doesn't have to be slavishly toon.

Skids, hopefully, is a course correction to get things back to what Masterpiece a collectable series for more than just Toonthusiasts.

I love it. Even though XTB Skids won't be going anywhere, I'm in for this. I'm glad they skipped the stupid toon design, I always loved the toy and this looks like a fantastic update of that.

It's like they bought XTBs, backwards engineered it, and changed the sculpt detail.

I can understand why you wrote this, but I don't agree. If you look at the car and robot, there aren't a lot of ways to get from one to the other. The head can only come from underneath the windshield, the arms have to be attached to the front wheels, et cetera. Therefore both look the same when it comes to the photos which we see now. But I'm sure that once Skids is released, there will be noticeable differences in the transformation. Just like there are noticeable differences in the looks of both.

...if this marks a return to quasi-realism, i’m all-in!..i’ve skipped the last few generations of takara masterpiece figures due to their animation-slavish design brief and over-reliance on fragile pseudo-transformation of fake parts...

...in fact, i already have one foot out-the-door of this hobby as they’re not offering much i’m interested in buying these days...

Or both were going for an upgraded figure based on the original toy's design, maybe?

Looking good, Skids, looking very good!!

Regarding this one diverging from the cartoon accuracy, I think the MP team took one look at Skids’ cartoon character model and said “aw hell no!

It’s not going to be an ongoing change to the line’s overall aesthetic, more likely we’ll see some characters done this way when it makes the most sense for that character.

I’m interested to see if the initial deco is toy or toon based. And I’m pretty certain there will be a + version at some point.

He looks nice, but other than the totally accurate vehicle mode, the robot mode is just a Generations toy. Nothing Masterpiece about it, it isn't amazingly accurate to anything.

Even if they didn't want to replicate the show model perfectly (and they had no choice if making the vehicle realistic), the robot mode still had room to have a lot more nods to the show design than it does even with extra detailing. Many shapes are not accurate to the toy or the show. Why have the show head on this body? They are trying to have it all here, and it's very underwhelming. I'm can justify paying premium prices for premium product, but for a Generations figure with a licensed alt mode, not so much.

The new pics are great. Ydah I mean xtb already did this bit they went more toonish. This looks better. Hood scoop is there. The correct downward slanting chest hood thing is there as well. Xtbs is good, very good. This will be even better if is rather issue free. It'll look awesome with all the Hasui Era mp bots. Now I'm wishing I got herald instead of savant. Lol. At least I got the police deco xtb haha. I want to support this because I want more some on this or similar style.

I think a lot if people will think that way but the things that make mp mp aren't just the slavish toon bot. there were many many mps before that misguided direction tool hold. I hope the slavish toon bot Era is coming to an end soon actually. I want mp to be the best representation of that g1 character with great Alt modes and robots that don't look like the toon, but robots that look like hat the toon was trying to portray.

I know I like Skids, however I'm not sure why other people like Skids. He always seems to surprise me when he gets merch which seems disproportionate to some of the other TF characters.

    Still, Yay Skids!

I'm sure this will get a re-release with toon colouring and blue tint windows.

I personally think Skids looks fine, and given how he had at most 3 minutes of screentime in the G1 cartoon to begin with, going the more toy accurate route really was the best call here. I just hope that he's not doing too much overcomplicated transformation bits and that he doesn't end up like poor Hound.

Meanwhile, Jazz remains at the deepest bottom of the sea of oblivion. Damn you, Porsche. Anyway, I dont buy Mps, so I can say about this looks cool, I think; I like more mech mps than cartoony mps, but most important: now hasbro can steal some ideas to make Generations Skids.
