What a fantastic figure otherwise. Can't wait for the other Four now.

I just picked him up today and I have to say that pictures don't do him justice! He's huge! And transformation is fairly easy.

Is there an option for red eyes besides paint?

The MP let you switch between red and blue eyes in each mode. The FT version had alternate head and eye pieces. I'd understand why if they went with only blue, since movie. But I always like my Grimlock to have Marvel/Toy red eyes. At least in Bot mode.

Yeah I guess I don't understand your question. There's no variation and blue eyes is what you get unless you decide to paint them

Since you've brought up the topic of whether it is based on a Tyrannosaurus or not. Here is something that may interest you; this is an Italian package of the Diaclone Grimlock (see below). It should be a direct translation of the original Japanese package (can't find a big enough image of the Japanese one to post though). Yes, it is still based on an outdated stance; however it is very "safe" to say it is modeled after a Tyrannosaurus.

As for the "godzilla" pose; perhaps it is based on some old museum mounts like this one (see below).

On top of this, you can probably watch the episode when the first wave of dinobots (Grimlock, Slag and Sludge) appeared on the show (maybe jump to about the 3 minute mark). The three dinosaur mounts that they saw at the museum and took holograms from are the Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops and "Brontosaurus". Having said that since I've never read the comic so I'm not sure if they were created the same way as the toon stuff.

I'm glad I kept this Grimlock sword from Maidenjapan from back in the day that was meant to go with the FOC Grimmy but looks good with this new Studio Series version.

I didn't hesitate for the new Cylconus, Scourge, Hot Rod, Jazz and the Battechargers but I haven't pulled the trigger on the King yet.

The gappy alt mode, fat tail, lack of wrist covers and front teeth... 'irk' me (?)

IF they really do the other 4, I'm sure that A) it will take forever to have them all since I can't imagine them releasing entire waves of Dinobot leaders and B) by the time they're done, they will all vary wildly in quality, finish and engineering and therefore won't really fit together, just like Siege Apeface and ER Snapdragon.

Hefty king of a toy. There is a ton of plastic in this thing. Nothing super revolutionary but, it gets the job done.
