Vinyl? whats vinyl? some sort of lost technology? Any dj can play a track, pump their fists, jump around, throw cakes into the crowd, but these guys literally put on the show. Inside The Pyramid: Daft Punk’s Live Gear
This news bummed me out this morning, though as others have said it does seem they chose to end it on their terms rather than facing a demise outside their control. As I’ve spent the day listening to Daft Punk while I work, I’m very appreciative of what they’ve created and I know they’ll live on in that aspect. I do wonder though if they have been working on a final album and this is how they kick off the publicity leading to its release. One can hope. I would love to have been able to experience their music live. At least I can keep listening to the fantastic contributions they made. Who knows, maybe in a few years there will be a reunion tour.
Fuck. I'm not a hardcore fan or anything (I basically just like Discovery, RAM, Tron: Legacy, and their songs with the Weeknd) but I'd just been thinking about how long it'd been since they released anything and was hoping they'd have a new album in the works soon. And there's another Tron movie apparently in the works, and that's 90% of my excitement for that gone now.
28 years was a long ass time, shit happens, people change. Shame that they're going their separate ways but their impact on music and pop culture will always be there.
Without Daft Punk, electronic music would be a lot different. So would live performances. Alive 2007 basically pioneered the DJ trend of flashy LEDs during a performance. Also, I feel a more appropriate song to put here would be... Hold on....if love is the answer, you’re home. Definitely feel like “Touch” is their Magnum Opus.
I suppose if I did a lot of Molly, danced by myself and enjoy flashing lights I would care. But I don't.
Daft Punk is definitely not something I've been into for a while, but I was all about it in my teens and twenties. Definitely sad to see them go, even if I wasn't the biggest fan of their last album.
28 years is an exceptional run for any musical group, but man, it still sucks to see them go. The news hit me like a truck yesterday because Daft Punk was massively influential on my tastes in music in the 2010's. Discovery may very well be one of my favorite albums of all time. At least the decision to split up appears to be one they reached of their own accord. I just hope they left on amicable terms and things didn't come to a boil behind the scenes. No one will ever be harder, better, faster, or stronger.
This actually would've been genius: Cool story, bro. Thanks for stopping by to contribute nothing to the discussion.
I’ve been thinking the same thing. While I’m not extremely familiar with the genre as a whole, it seems that the Daft Punk split is to electronica as the Beatles split was to rock. I’ve never done drugs or been to a rave, but I can appreciate musical talent and innovation. Daft Punk was a talented and innovative duo. Not saying you have to care, but you could at least expand your view of the genre.
Twenty-eight years and they went out on their own terms, leaving their fans wanting more. Not a bad run. Oh, and yes. They kicked about fifty kinds of ass with the Tron: Legacy soundtrack.
Y’know, I’m not mad about this. We got 25 years of kickass music out of these guys, and they’re both pushing 50 now. When you’re a middle aged multi-gazillionaire, running all over the planet and sweating your ass off in robot helmets until 3am, year after year after year, has got to be an exhausting schtick after awhile. Honestly excited to see where they head individually - Trent Reznor’s post-NIN work is arguably vastly more interesting than anything he did in his rockstar career, and I wouldn’t be surprised if at least one of them has a similar solo trajectory.
Can't say I am a fan, but they did have one song that I liked, really only one I can think of that I have heard...Doin it right. Nice mellow vibe. Where does that song fit in terms of their greatness?
