This. Reading this news this morning was like a gut punch. Been wanting to see them live for a long time now.
No musical group last forever, they either break up by choice, are forced apart my inner turmoil or one or more key members pass away and end the original line up or the group entirely. The other possibility for a music act breaking up is one or more members stricken down by Illness. As no reason was given here we can only eliminate a member dying as the cause as both members of the Duo are alive and while i am not really a fan i'd think if one of the two had been stricken by any health issues word would have gotten out. 28 years is a good run.
I wouldn't sweat it too much, the dudes are in their late 40s... There is way too much money in reunion tours
They were my favorite techno duo by far and one of my favorite bands ever. Man, this just soured my mood.
I’ve been thinking so much lately that I think the world needed their music now more then ever, but this.... this is not that, this is sad. I don’t know how to live in a world without Daft Punk, I don’t even know how to accept the fact they aren’t together anymore.
I feel like a part of me just died. Such a huge influence on me, my life, my taste in music, and more.... All gone now. It's been a great ride. It was nice knowing you, you glorious French bastards. See you on the other side.
I loved their music. “One More Time” came out when I was a kid and thanks to the music video’s anime visuals I always associate it with the old days of Toonami and the Midnight Run. Such a unique, iconic sound that made me feel cool, like I was living the adult, darker adventures you’d see on Toonami on a Saturday night when you were supposed to be asleep. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger speaks for itself. I also enjoyed the remix by Kanye as it just sounded badass. I also remember an AMV of ROTF set to the remix which was dope. I never saw Tron: Legacy but if anybody was gonna do the score for such a state of the art, cool looking ride, it had to be Daft Punk. It was really cool to see them get to do the score for a major motion picture. Then came Get Lucky. Man, what a complete bop. Pharrell probably gets most of the recognition for it since it’s his vocals, but it was such a hot, unique song to come out and as the song of the summer no less. Summer 2013 had some great pop hits but nothing like Get Lucky. I also really enjoyed Lose Yourself to Dance, just a great, smooth successor. Daft Punk really earned Album of the Year at the Grammy’s and it was so cool to see them perform with Pharrell and Stevie Wonder, and to get such massive recognition and love. Their collaboration with The Weeknd, Starboy, also sounded dope. The Weeknd is already so damn cool, and putting him with the other definition of techno-cool, Daft Punk, was a great choice. Then came what ended up being their swan song, the almighty hit of I Feel It Coming. I realize this too is more Abel’s song than anything, but Jesus this is such a cool, fun and hot song. It’s such a bop, it sounds so cool, and it’s so fun to sing. And it’s pretty lighthearted for The Weeknd as well so it was even more unique. It’s one of my favorite songs of the 2010’s. Daft Punk sounded cool as ever, and their awesome cameo at the end of the music video appears to be a mystery we’ll never solve. Oh well. I watched Epilogue this morning and it was just as mysterious as ever. I hope the explosion doesn’t bode ill for either of them and I hope it was indeed a retirement on good terms. It’s truly the end of something great and a potent reminder of how time passes and is passing before our eyes. Man. I love Daft Punk, and we’ll always have their finest works to listen to over and over again. They’ll always be regarded as Titans. Cool looking Titans with a legacy that will endure. I feel it coming.
RAM was definitely their Magnum Opus. Touch is a fucking beautiful song. And though it is very unlikely, always hold some hope that they'll be back together. Or don't. But whatever you do, don't be sad. Be happy because it happened.
Absolutely. They look like they belong in Tron. The movie may not have done well (I liked it, but it wasn't the box office breaker that Disney hoped for), but that soundtrack is effing tight. It was a nice nod to see them cameo too.
Sorry to hear this, though I can't claim to be a huge fan. I only have Discovery and the Tron: Legacy soundtrack, and haven't heard much else by them other than that. I always thought their music was pretty cool though, and this makes me want to go back and revisit it.
